Don't mean to clutter with this - but here's my question:
I see Mox Diamond in more than a few decks - mostly decks with Loam engines, which I'm interested in, but have never had the chance to mess around with. I'm thinking of gradually picking up a playset, but my issue is this: typically, those that come from FTV: Relics go for thirty bucks a pop, whereas it's 35 (at best) to 45 for an original stronghold one. I'm not typically one to care, but I do wonder if the warping that foils go through would affect the playability of these cards. They may very well be the only foil cards in any given deck, and I'd rather avoid charges of cheating. Thoughts?

Well, the FTV ones are really horrible, so pick up the original ones!

I have loads of foil cards and never had problems with any though..

The FTV ones are slightly thicker and obviously playable, but I strongly suggest the Stronghold ones.

I'm a fan of the stronghold ones also, but it's a matter of taste. I'm sure the Stronghold ones will hold price due to rarity better if that's what you are concerned about. There's nothing wrong with the FTV ones other than keeping them away from moisture so they don't get the warping thing. It's not real hard to straighten them anyway even if they do. The FTV ones are cheaper as a bonus anyway. The question should be, which ones do you like better, it's your money.

People don't like me for preferring the GvL Snuff Outs to the originals, no offense to Squee.

On topic, I'm partial to the Stronghold art, but it's entirely up to you.

I personally like both of them, however for estethics i decided to have only single foil in my deck and that foil is Senseis Divining top from the vault. Thats why i would like to prefer stronghold one.

Buy the FTV ones. They're cheaper and 99% of the times, if you buy them from a mtg online seller, they will come in Gem mint condition, while finding Stronghold ones in mint condition will cause you to search for ages and pay a lot..... It's like buying a played beta P9 or a fresh mint unlimited. Need i say more?
if budget is your goal, buy ftv.
if you really like dan frazier art, or you are a non foil taliban, then buy Stronghold ones.

I like the art on both cards but I personally prefer the Stronghold Mox. It costs more, but I like the older card looks and I'm personally not a fan of foils specifically because of the warping I've seen.

For playable reasons the FTV are really not large tourny worthy. As mentioned earlier, the foil is actually different than other foils and it is really really obv the difference in them. At small local tournies, ftv I prefer, but like going to a gp or a scg tourny, the FTV might get you a loss.(deff will day 2 of a gp)

I love the art on both, so that's not the issue. The only issue is will it get me in trouble at large-man tourneys?

You might want to ask a judge about that before you play in a tournament...

The fact that there's even a concern means you should just go with the non foil version. Really the price is not so different to justify worrying abbout it. Get the non foil, you'll sleep better and have one less unnecessary thing on your mind when you play.

I still don't see why people think that's a problem with a foils. I show up to just about all the Grand Prix's in the US and I always ask the head judge if my deck is ok since I do play a ton of older cards and foils. (I like pimping). If they haven't said anything by now, I doubt they ever will. I still ask anyway due to the fact my lands are the one thing in the decks that usually aren't foil and some people say they can tell the difference. I have a bunch of beta and alphas and then whatever basics I play with usually are something non-foil also.

There might be a couple of cards that are non-foil (the ones that don't come foil), but that's it. They have never said a thing about it even when I pointed it out if it would be a problem. They check it sometimes by trying to cut to lands or foils, but I keep my cards out of the car and in a decent spot so they never get that curl. They just smile and send me on my way every time with a "Oooo Shiny" and that's it.

So if I live in a dry area, keep my cards out of the sunlight, and generally take care of them, they won't warp?

I would appreciate it if the thread wasn't locked, if any mods are reading this.

But seriously, how much warping is there, if any?

Humidity is the main cause of the warping. I have some warp here and there, it's hard to avoid, but keeping them in a dry area of your house helps a lot. Boxes that fit tightly help tremendously. If you have one that does warp anyway, it's not too hard to flatten them back out just by rolling them the opposite way slightly.

I live in Michigan, an area not exactly known for being dry (big frigging lakes nearby) so it's not too hard to keep them flat.

Anyway, so which ones did you decide on?

I haven't decided yet. It's a moot point till next paycheck.

I will say with fact that the FTV will not be good for any event that needs a day 2. Being one of the lucky 100 the first day of gencon to get the box, The instant I opened the cards, they warped like it was fast forward of something. With that I saw 2 people get game losses at Gencon because they threw them in their deck right when they got them, and the making of the foils for the FTV is different than all other foils and does warp more and will get you a game loss especially in later rounds. So if you expect to play in large tournies, they buy original. I don't care if anyone here says that they use them all the time, I personally saw 2 different people on the same day get game losses because fo the FTV.

What is it with people and FTV warping?
Sure, they can curl more than normal foils, but if you store them right, nothing is wrong.
I played 4x FTV Lotus Petal at GP Columbus this year, and I made day 2 and there was no insane warping or anything. All my cards we flat!

Maybe it was because most of my cards were foil? With the exception of some of my fetches, a few infernal tutors, and the FBB Undergrounds, all my cards were foil.
Sometimes cards DO take on the shapes of others above and below them. If you store a stack of foils with normal foils on either end/in between, and it is humid/damp/really cold ALL of the cards will curve.
