This came up yesterday, and I want to check if I am reasoning this correctly.
Engineered Explosives is in play with 2 counters on it. If my opponent popped it, I cannot respond with Vampire Hexmage to remove counters on the EE because sacrificing the EE was part of the cost (i.e. cannot be responded to), and hence there will be no targets to remove counters from.
Hope I am correct on this, and if I am correct, the right timing to Hexmage the EE would be when the opponent is tapped out since if he had mana out, he can in-response crack the EE to my Hexmage activation and still get a similar effect right?
