RI has a thriving Magic scene, and with a Legacy GP hitting Providence in 2011, it is time to get the Legacy community in gear in the area. The Temple Gaming Store and Lounge (http://www.thetemplegames.com/) located in Pawtucket has been running Sunday Legacy events since we opened our doors in July, and we're always happy to see some new faces. Here's the details. We have a good mix of both veteran and new Legacy players, and a very friendly crowd as many in the area can attest to.
City: Pawtucket, RI
Where: The Temple Games - 167 Columbus Avenue Pawtucket RI 02860
Website: http://www.thetemplegames.com/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/TheTempleGames?ref=sgm&__a=12&
When: Every Sunday. Registration starts at 1:00 PM / Cards fall at 1:30 PM
Entry fee: Just $5
Prize: Store credit (available for anything in the store, including singles) based on attendance, with 120% (and often more) of the entry pot going into the prize pool. Top 4 through 8 get prizes based on attendance, with promos and various legacy gems thrown in for particularly sizable events. We also make sure our case is stocked with what Legacy players needs, including playsets of most Dual Lands and various mid-to-high range Legacy staples, so you won't be forced spend your hard earned store credit on Type 2 stuff. :)
Average Showing: 14 to 22 people.
Also, catch TV, sports, of movies on our HD displays as you play, while getting round pairings digitally via our monitors. See you here!

We're back from our winter vacation, and I guess you guys really wanted your legacy fix. Very healthy turnout this week with 16 players! We went 5 rounds, and in the end forked over over $110 in singles payout for the winners. Here's what we saw in the top four for Sunday the 9th of January.
1st: James Owens (Red Splash Tempo Faeries)
2nd: Mike Souto (Burn)
3rd: Dan Livant II (R/B Gate)

There were some fantastic matchups this week, and it was good to see some of the up-and-coming Legacy crew challenging the veterans. Congrats to Jim, who came packing a really cool and unique tempo build. Catch you next Sunday!

I enjoyed the deck very much, had been working on it for a while. I showed up like half an hour late and they waited for me, which was incredible. Because I was so late I didn't have time to fine-tune the sideboard but Duress should have been in there and maybe Krosan Grip and one more Volcanic Island.
I don't get to play legacy alot since I'm busy holding a ton of it (shameless plug :p http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?19320-RI-DHG-Thursday-Night-Legacy-Returns!-5-Duals-Weekly!-Jan-SEAS), so I was happy to be able to go to Grant's and play. He's a fantastic TO and Temple runs a great show. I'm proud to be friends with him and co-organize my events with him at Templecon.
I will try to make it down again sometime. Thanks for a hell of a show Grant.
- Dave
P.S. We both won each oher's legacy this week lol

Thanks for the report, Dave. You are correct in your observation that I am 100% in TempleCon planning crazy mode. :)
Thank you to everyone who showed up for one of our largest weekly Legacy events ever! Congrats to everyone in the top eight who certainly deserved to be there. As a vintage/legacy player for a decade and a half, seeing my favorite format get this kind of local attention has been huge!
An additional thanks to everyone for dealing with the crowds in the shop once the convention volunteer meeting ran into the end of the tourney. I was hoping we were going to finish before the TempleCon Army arrived. :)
See you guys next week!

Actually it was over an hr late, which is why some of us were unable to play gratz though on top 2 split.

15 minutes late technically. Event usually starts at 1:30, so I've been told. I was in the room at 1:45. Anyway sorry I made you unable to play Dana (bwahaha :p).

Since we're looking at a steady 16 to 24 players weekly now, we're shooting to start at 1:00 PM sharp as to allow everyone plenty of time to get in a solid 4 to 5 rounds and a final cut.
However, I am accommodating, especially in crappy winter weather. If anyone is going to be late, just call the shop at 401-305-0836 (Which Dave did, BTW. Thanks Dave! :)
Also, I've been asked if we're doing a Sunday Legacy due to the pre-release weekend. The answer is YES.

Solid turnout for this week with 18 players, especially for a pre-release weekend! We ran four rounds and a cut to top eight. Here are the results.
The quarterfinals consisted of Louis Gentile playing Enchantress beating Samuel Wang running New Horizons
Nikolas Lima playing Dark Horizons/Junk triumphing over Dennis Patnaude playing Burn
Joseph Cahill running Death and Taxes beating Justin Russell
Nicholas Romano playing Merfolk, losing to Dan Livant II playing Goblins.
Moving into the semifinals, Nik Lima lost to Dan Livant II in a three game nail biter, Louis Gentile overcame Joseph's Death and Taxes threat. The finals resulted in a three game victory for Louis over Dan's goblins who couldn't handle the heavy Moat and Elephant Grass lead defense of Enchantress. This victory marks Louis's second consecutive finals with Enchantress, showing that the archetype has what it takes to get there.
The top four snagged a total $120 in store credit. Congrats, guys, and thanks to everyone for showing up! We're going to be closed this week as we prepare to run our annual convention, TempleCon 2011 in Warwick, RI (http://www.templecon.org/), however show up at the convention for a series of amazing events, including Standard and Sealed 1k events on Saturday and Sunday which are looking like two of the largest events in RI to date, and our weekly Legacy event on Sunday at 1:00 as well!
See you then!

I had a great time! I will try to make it out there sometime again soon. I should have been in the top 2 but my deck crapped on me g3 against Louis and made me mull to 4 to find a colored mana source :(

Looking forward to tomorrow, folks. I'm expecting a decent turnout post-TempleCon.
We also have a fully stocked case with a full collection of duals and other legacy staples at the moment, so stop on down!

It's Sunday! Know what that means? You should be getting down to The Temple by 1:00 to get some Legacy action in for just 5 bucks!
And now... the results from last week. We had a respectable 14 players show up. Here are the top four standings from the second week of February.
1st: Alex Maag (B/R Goblins)
2nd: David Romano (Mono Black Control)
3rd: Joe Harrington (RUG Tempo Thresh)
4th: Jim Owens (New Horizons)
Thanks for making this one of the most successful Legacy events in the region. See everyone this week! We have plenty of duals and other Legacy power chilling in the case right now, waiting for ya. :)

A solid 18 players showed up on Sunday the 20th for an awesome day of Legacy at The Temple Games! $140 worth of store credit was distributed to the winners, and without further ado, here's your winners for the third week of February:
Split for 1st: Nick Romano (B/R Goblins)
Split for 1st: Jim Owens (New Horizons)
2nd: Vincent Fleury (Mono White Aggro)
3rd: Jared Robidoux (B/G Rock)
It's been great to see some of our newer Legacy regulars really start to get the hang of the format over the past month. Thanks for coming out, and see everyone on Sunday. Hell, I may even get a chance to play in this one myself if my judge backup arrives. :)

The month of March brought us one amazing set of Legacy events, with no fewer than 14 players and a massive second week of the month turnout of 23 players. Thanks to everyone for making our Sunday one of the best days of the week at The Temple Games.
This past week brought us 14, with an amazing cross-section of decks and players preparing for GP Providence. Our weekly Legacy event has brought in a great number of new faces from all points in New England, and starting this week, we'll be posting full tournament reports post-event with detailed rundowns of the entire metagame here at The Temple, and in the RI Legacy scene in general.
Here are the top eight results from Sunday the 3rd of April. This week saw a heavy departure from the recent aggro-heavy meta and marked the beginning of an significant upswing in combo which I think is going to shape the local scene as we move closer to the GP.
(Split 1st) Nicholas Romano - (TES)
(Split 1st) Chris Roberts - (Landstill)
3rd: Nik Lima - (Elf Combo)
4th: Grant Garvin - (Rock/Junk)
5th: Ximon - (Zoo)
6th: Jim Owens - (Team America)
7th: Dan Livant - (Time Spiral Combo?)
8th: Matthew Terry - (Elf Combo)
We've been forking out well over a hundred dollars of store credit to top four, which has been used to pick up a number of duals, Legacy staples, and a pair of Jaces from our GP-ready case over the past few weeks.
See you next week!
