View Full Version : Does the use of card alters damage other cards in your deck?

I've noticed some altered cards are thicker than their normal card counterparts, because of the amount of paint artists use on them. Sometimes altered cards even have raised and/or sharp surfaces because of the thickness of the paint used in certain areas.

Through shuffling and handling of decks that have altered cards, can your other cards get damaged?

I generally use perfect sleeves and Ultra Pros around my cards (ie. double sleeving) but I'm afraid of using altered cards in the same decks as money cards like Jace, Candelabra of Tawnos, Onslaught Fetches, ABU dual lands, etc.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Any alter bad enough to damage another card should be tossed or nuked with acetone and redone. It's funny anyone with altered cards would be worried about fetchlands or candelabras since a good alter is worth more than either. No alters shouldn't damage sleeved cards unless they are very poorly done and either way you should probably be more concerned with damaging your alters.

Ok. Cool. Because I haven't seen any damage on my other cards, but I don't want to have any surprises in the future. The artists I've gone to so far, seem experienced enough not to overuse paint, etc. so the point seems irrelevant. I'll admit I'm just worried about nothing, but still. I don't want to learn about something I should have known before hand, if I get heavily into altered cards in the near future.
