So it's kind of Imperial Painter, but kind of not.

4 Grindstone
4 Painter's Servant
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Infernal Tutor
4 Lion's Eye Diamond
4 Imperial Recruiter
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Red Elemental Blast
4 Dark Ritual
1 Helm of Obedience
2 Chrome Mox
3 Magus of the Moon

3 City of Traitors
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Badlands
4 Bloodstained Mire
1 Mountain
2 Swamp

So it's supposed to be fast. Very fast, obviously. The maindeck Leylines just automatically beat a lot of decks and also stop the surprise Emrakul annoyances. They also work with the one of Helm for an alternate win under pithing needles.

I have no sideboard currently. I am not even sure if Magus should be here, but I can get him with Recruiter and sometimes he just wins games.

Thoughts and ideas ?

My initial impression of the name Dark Painter was Dark Confidant and Deathgrip.

God Deathgrip is so hot with Painter (too bad takes too much effort to set up) :P

The only issue I see with your list is there are no draw/tutors, so what happens if you just draw a bunch of accelerants? Or if your opponent discards/counters painter/grindstone/Helm? I think you need more protection/disruption/tutor/draw. Even Sensei's Top is good to keep the pressure coming since you have 2 win conditions that can be assembled.

EDIT: NVM saw the Recruiters. How's the RB mana base with a stompy manabase of 2-colorless lands?

I think 2-card Monte in Legacy is cute, because Grindstone dies to Emrakul, but Helm sure beats Emrakul lol.

Well if leyline is in play Grindstone still beats Emrakul.

I am thinking of dropping a tomb or another city for 6 of the colorless 2 lands.

The 8 tutors seem like enough so far.

One of the biggest things I am not sure about is the Magus. Needs more testing I guess

Something I'd suggest for a painter list with black in it is Persecute, make your opponent discard his whole hand early... Yes please (even if it is only a sideboard card, as your acceleration can enable you to cast it real early)
