The combo works. You don't have to declare the Elder as an attacker more than once. After you've done that, it will be an attacking creature until end of combat (except if some effect removes it from combat). Maze of Ith doesn't remove the targeted creature from combat, it will just untap it and prevent all damage from it. So, you can use Maze on Elder, then tap Elder to untap Maze and some other land, then repeat this as many times as you want. Only one thing has changed: the mana now disappears at the end of the step, not the phase (and it won't cause mana burn).
Thanks. Too bad it scoops to wasteland and lightning bolt.

I don't think so. You can always response the effect of wasteland or lighning bolt.

WIth the ability of Elder or Maze in the stack and both tapped, he can target with the removal. You can't response it if he is smart enough.

With decent instant mana outlets, it could be quite decent (given Maze is also a fine card to stall); too bad that'll probably involve looking outside green since green instants by and large blow.

You can add a single Taiga without problem and use red instants to kill like Comet Storm. You're weak vs wastelands anyway.
This is a 3 card combo (Maze + Elder + Kill condition), but if you put Tropicals, you can start to "combo" and chain instant draw spells (meditate, intuition, etc) until you find the kill card.
Crop Rotation seems a must have and Krosan Restorer can be Elders 5-8 when you get Threshold

Just saying that you can port your mana with Storage Lands to your mainphase.
