I'm playing against a friend who is playing TES. I'm playing Countertop. He goes to play Lion's Eye Diamond and I have Counterbalance in play. I reveal a land and state that the artifact is countered since a lands CMC is 0. He disagrees and says lands have no CMC.

Who is correct?

Lands have no mana cost. However, every card has a converted mana cost. That's kind of the point. You convert whatever the given information is into a "converted" mana cost. So the same logic follows for something like ancestral vision.
