View Full Version : Magic Workstation: Does anyone still play?

Is it taboo to mention MWS here? I tried posting in the currently active 'Magic Online' thread but it got rolled over by MTGO posts, with no response to mine. The last thread talking about MWS was active in August of last year, and the Sourcer-only server that was mentioned there is now dead. It is still the best free netplay client imo, barring recent, significant optimization by Cockatrice.
How many Sourcers are there left willing to deal with MWS? Any interest in creating a server for play? Do people just PM one another for games now?

The Sourcer server didn't seem to get off the ground.
I still think MWS could be useful, but am immediately turned off by the fact that you have to sit there through all the SPL's ("Fuck you, you're playing Islands"), people who don't know rules ("Arc Trail you for 3"). I now either ask a teammate to get online or if I'm close we just proxy the decks.

I pretty much only play on mws. It's pretty hit or miss really, but if you find someone reasonable there's nothing keeping you from getting an extra few good games in as long as you ask nicely.

Besides magic-league, there is no reason to use MWS in favour of Cockatrice in my opinion.

I'm on MWS at least 2 days a week with [S] Heresy as a username.

I seldom play on the public servers, same nickname as here. The fact is that I like to face real opponents and keep 7 cards in my hand. Also, I'm playing a virtual version of my real deck on the MWS, so I update my masterbase only when a card useful in Dredge is spoiled. This, added to the fact that most players on the public servers automatically S: PL me as soon as I land Tireless Tribe made me decide to not use it anymore.

When I'm angry on humanity as a whole, I like to load up Belcher or TES in MWS and play against rndmscrbs.
I also have a few contacts on my MSN list for serious testing, but I much prefer to test IRL.

I use MWS (same handle as my Source name.) I'm not too keen on people dropping 1/1 noob tokens into play.

Does anyone else have trouble just trying to stay connected while playing on MWS? If i get lucky and neither of us get disconnected, there's still an awful lag. It makes it almost unplayable when you can only get a full game in like 10% of the time. Maybe it's just my connection here at school, though

Isn't it the golden rule to have [S] on your MWS username if your a Sourcer? Anyways, isn't everyone playing Cocktrace anyways?

Naw dog I play on MWS pretty much every night under different names. Usually I just acquire the name of someone that's waiting for someone else, just to fuck with 'em. Other times I get competent cool players, sometimes sourcers, but I tell them who I am.
