Hi all!
I'm not great on writing up reports so please be gentle;) Also, forgive me for bad English, not remembering my opponents names and rather chaotic report but I didn’t took any notes – sorry if I mess something but this is all from memory.

My list:

Business (7):
1x Ad Nauseum
1x Ill-Gotten Gains
1x Tendrils of Agony
4x Infernal Tutor

Mana acceleration (18):
4x Dark Ritual
3x Cabal Ritual
4x Lotus Petal
3x Chrome Mox
4x Lion's Eye Diamond

Search engine (12):
4x Ponder
4x Preordain
4x Brainstorm

Disrupt (7):
4x Duress
3x Thoughtsieze

"Catch all" answer (1) :
1x Chain of Vapor – It should be Grim Tutor but it didn’t arrive for the tournament:mad:
Lands (15):
2x Island
1x Swamp
2x Underground Sea
4x Polluted Delta
1x Verdant Catacombs
2x Scalding Tarn
2x Misty Rainforest
1x Flooded Strand

Side:
4x Xantid Swarm
1x Tropical Island
1x Emrakul, the Aeons Thorn
1x Shelldock Isle
4x Doomsday
2x Chain of vapor
2x Echoing Truth

Round 1 Merfolks (mono u).

First game was quite easy as I Duressed his only Force of Will and than manage to combo out on second turn via Ad Nauseum. In second game I kept hand with 2 discard spells and 1 cantrip but little short on mana when he had heavy beatdown. I took out his counterspells but his dudes were to fast for me as I didn’t find any mana source. 3rd game started with Xantid Swarm on turn 1 which got it and after some digging I was able to finish him on turn 3 with IGG.

2-1 Overall 1-0

Round 2 Josh Utter-Leyton with 4c Counterbalance.

Playing against Josh was a pure pleasure. In first game after duress I saw Fetch, 2 Brainstorms, Sensei, Force of Will and 2 irrelevant spells (2 Firesprouts I guess). I took out Sensei (which I think was a mistake) and on my next turn I followed with Thoughtsieze – he responded with Brainstorm but didn’t find anything so I was able to combo with Ad Nauseum. I am quite ashamed of second game because, despite of ton of luck (I had to combo knowing he has FoW on hand, sensei in table and no blue spells to play FoW and hoping he will not find a blue card via Top which he didn’t..) I counted mana badly and fizzled. In game 3 I resolved 3rd turn DD and Emrakul took it from there.

2-1 Overall 2-0

Round 3 Bomberman Painter.

In first game I was milled on turn two. Second game was my by turn three but in 3rd game I saw Chant after Duressing. I took it out going to kill him next turn but he plays Fetch, Mox Opal (his 1st land was Great Furnance) and Sensei. I already saw myself being Chanted in response to Infernal Tutor, nevertheless I had to go off as giving him more time will not be a good idea. Surprisingly he decided not to use Top…

2-1 Overall 3-0

Round 4 Goblins (R/B).

Very fast games, 2 times combo on turn 2 or 3.

2-0 Overall 4-0

Round 5 Luca with Infect.

First game was easy as I killed Luca on turn 3 after bouncing his guy. Next game looked good as well as I had second turn Ad Nauseum. I had no mana floating and killed myself as I didn’t find any 0 cc mana source – well, it happens. 3rd game was me going combo on turn two and meeting Mindbreak Trap (this sucks) and him killing me with 1/1 Myr with infect pumped by Pendelhaven and 2 Might’s of Old Krosa.. I must say I was expecting Traps but since his deck was very fast I could not wait for discard spells and had to try going off without protection.

1-2 Overall 4-1

Round 6 UBg Landstill.

I don’t remember 1st game but I think I combed after breaking standstill with Duress and taking something irrelevant. In next game he started with Sensei which at first suggest me that he has some bad build but second after I realised he probably side in CB for this matchup. On my turn I duressed taking FoW and on his 3rd turn he dropped CB – great…. I chose to brainstorm EOT, he decided to take a look on his top 3 cards, find nothing and flipped Sensei on top to counter Brainstorm. I couldn’t be more happy as during my turn I played 2x LED, Cabal and IT into Ad Nauseum.

2-0 overall 5-1

Round 7 Bant.

First game I mulligan to 4 cards but it was perfect 4 - Land, LED, IT, Ponder ->LED and draw Dark Ritual meaning kill on turn 2. Next game was Hierarch for him, ponder for me, GSZ into Gaddock for him and on my second turn - 2x LED + additional mana, than chaining back LED’s with last copy targeting his Gaddock and wining with IGG.

2-0 Overall 6-1

Round 8 UR Painter.

First game is 3x discard from me and combo on turn 3. In second game he started with Island, Sensei. I kept Duress, 2x Chromoe Mox, Ponder, LED, Infernal Tutor and Dark Ritual, draw IT from the top. Duressing him wasn’t the best plan since he has sensei to rebuild and I had the opportunity to kill him turn one. I chose to go for it. He didn’t have Fow so 1st turn kill for me:)

2-0 Overall 7-1

Round 9 with Metalworker/Staff of Domination deck. ID and advance into top 8 from 3rd place.

Overall 7-1-1

Top 8 was 2x ANT, 1x Belcher (which I would be paired against), 1x WG Maverick, CB, Metalworker, U/W Landstill and something I don’t remember. Top 8 Split Prices.

Thanks for reading,

Nice job. How is Doomsday-Emrakul in the side going for you? Do you think they are worth the slots?

I sided it only one time but it was worth it's slots. 4c CB has only 1 Karakas (and not always) to beat it and this is very simple way to win as there is no chance of fizzling. 4 DD gives you more business spells so u can go off earlier and avoid CB thanks to the cost (at least more often than with Confidant).

How was Chain over Grim Tutor? Did you ever miss it, or did it never matter?

It was usefull one time only as i could bounce infect creature in game one against Luca in round 5. This was the only time i drew it. I think it is better than 4th cabal but it didn't really matter. I wanted to add Grim tutor in this slot because on local tournament I find myself lacking business spells sometimes. Fortunately this time I was able to dig for Infernals.

I'm not sure if I should be asking this here but do you know where I could view the top 8 decklists? I'm in disbelief that belcher could top8 such a large event, would love to see the list.

I used DD pack only once and it was against Counterbalance. I think it is crucial to have faster combo than usual and adding 4 DD improves sifnificantly your capability of going off turn 2. For me it is the best way to beat CB and since ANT has quite good odds of winning with most of the field, DD pack is worth it's slots. DD has also good converted mana cost to avoid CB.

If you're interested this is how is boarded:
Side in 4x DD, 1x Sheldock, 1x Emrakul, 1x Tropical and 3x Xantid Swarm
Side out 1x Ad Nauseum (Emrakul), 1x Swamp, 1x Flooded Strand, 3x Chrome Mox (it is good only with AN), 1x Cabal Ritual, 1x Chain of Vapor and 2x Preordain.

I would also appreciate your comments on this.

I always keep bounce in because CB players have been trying lately to adopt to Vial metagame so you can be suprised with Pithing Needle on SI when they let you resolve DD. Wipe Away would be the best, it's great in DD piles and normal DD decks, it solves many problems (if only you could fit it somewhere). Another thing is that my testing proved that Bayou is way better than Tropical Island in this DD plan but maybe it's just me.

P.S. Gratz on your top8.

why are you siding out chrome mox? In my opinion it's another piece of acceleration that assures you T2 DD, the cabal ritual makes sense since on its own it is the least effective ritual in a vacuum (w/out threshold)

I find Chrome Mox most efficient with Ad Nauseum (as it is not exeption to go off with no mana floating) and for DD plan I prefer Cabal since it gives you just enough mana to cast DD. The next thing about Chrome Mox is that it only works good with DD if you imprint a black card and since black cards in ANT are discard spells and acceleration you want to use them in better way than imprinting.

@Deviruchi - you are right with bounce plan - I will try playing 1 Wipe Away for DD piles.
