hello ppl.
These days im very excited with a deck I play. Its a try to make an artifact prison deck with the only winning condition the combo between Helm of the Obedience & Leyline of the Void. In the past days I was working on a Grindstone / Painter's Servant combo, but I figured out that "Helm of the Void" is superior, because :
a) Grindstone and Chalice of the Void have a conflict
b) Painter's Servant is a creature and can be easily terminated
c) Half of the combo comes directly from your hand (Leyline)
d) Leyline helps you with some greedy decks that uses graveyard all the time
e) In some matches, like High Tide and Enchantress, Helm of the Obedience really works alone. Especialy if you gather more than 10 mana to activate it!!!
ok lets see the decklist :
// Creatures
4 [UD] Metalworker
// Spells
3 [RAV] Bottled Cloister
2 [SH] Mox Diamond
4 [SH] Ensnaring Bridge
3 [FD] Staff of Domination
4 [DS] Trinisphere
4 [GP] Leyline of the Void
4 [AL] Helm of Obedience
4 [MR] Chalice of the Void
3 [U] Forcefield
2 [10E] Crucible of Worlds
// Lands
4 [TE] Ancient Tomb
4 [MR] Cloudpost
4 [SOM] Glimmerpost
4 [EX] City of Traitors
4 [UNH] Swamp
3 [TE] Wasteland
// Sideboard
SB: 4 [6E] Cursed Totem
SB: 4 [EX] Sphere of Resistance
SB: 3 [EX] Null Brooch
SB: 4 [SOM] Ratchet Bomb
Lets start from the base. Cloudpost is the Mishra's Workshop of nowadays. Can easily be pumped more that 3 mana... and its extremely usuful at any time. Glimmerpost is a life-gainer, and the pumper of Cloudpost. Vesuva can be transformed either Glimmer or Cloud. Besides, Glimmerpost can work with Wasteland and Crusible of Worlds for extra life if needed.
Combo parts :
Crusible & Wasteland for the lands
Metal & Staff (infinite mana, life, and draw if you hold 3 other artifacts)
Cloister and Bridge from creatures.
Leyline & Helm, the ultimate winning combo, probably the 2nd best 2part combo after Time Vault / Voltaic Key.
Spell control with Trini (sideboard for Legacy - joke), and Chalice.
Some thoughts about Forcefield :
It is obvious why this card is so expensive. Besides that's a ABU card... There are just a few artifacts that prevent creatures from attacking normally. This is the first, and second is the Ensnaring Bridge. There is a 3rd also, Al-abara's Carpet, but it cost too much and does not protect you from flyiers.
The point is that when you want to build an artifact deck, opponent's creatures are a problem. And bridge is so "alone" in the deck. There is a big possibility not to draw it in your opening hand. So what you gonna do ? Splash some blue for Propaganda ? Yes... but no thanx. Adding a color in an artifact deck, reduces the power of Metalworker, your lands become vulnerable and so on.
Except that its very difficult for Bridge to work alone, and fast. You must have help from other cards like Metalworker to empty your hand, or Bottled Cloister which is a great combo.
Forcefield works alone, at any time. By the time you have lands to feed it, you'll get 1 damage from every creature.
any thoughts ?
