Since I'm sure I'm not the only one frustrated with a lack of frequent local tournaments, I'd like to see if there'd be enough interest to set up an online tournament.

Issues to discuss:
-which program to use
-rules enforcement
-prize support
-other stuff regarding implementation

Personally, I'd prefer to use Cockatrice over MWS. It has a very nice layout and a relatively stable server. For the first tournament, I'd be willing to put forth a relatively small monetary prize that I could Paypal to the winner. If this caught on, we could figure out some way to have a secure buy-in, but then again, perhaps prizes are unneeded if there's enough interest.

I'm not sure if it'd be possible to get fair rules enforcement unless there was a 3rd party neutral judge for each match. I'm afraid that it would have to be on an honor system for the most part.

Obviously there's a lot of other issues to discuss before this idea could go forward, but for now I'd just like to see who else would be interested.

I'm sure Magic League or whatever exists these days probably runs legacy tournaments. Also, legacy is certainly on Magic Online.

Personally, I'd prefer to use Cockatrice over MWS. It has a very nice layout and a relatively stable server.Layout and server are EXACTLY the two major problems with this program. Its' layout is so ugly that hurts, and there's no way to argue the opposite. Everyone that plays the program says this same thing. And there's so few people playing there that's very difficult to play a single match at any time you want it, and that's impossible to run an online tournament.

Issues that may be adressed with time, but that make Cockatrice impracticable for now. I'll be waiting for future improved versions of it.

Obviously there's the classic format in modo, but I'm one of those players who would prefer to not have to buy my collection again to play with fake cards. I can't be the only one.

I will look into magic league, I guess my understanding was that it focused mostly on standard.

Finally, regarding Cockatrice, I think youre kind of exaggerating the deficiencies (or maybe you played an older version). It seems to run pretty smoothly, and once you learn a handful of basic shortcuts, games get played without too much issue. It's just an issue of self-regulation for rules enforcement, but with an organized tournament of legacy players, I dont see that being much of an issue.

Cockatrice would work better than MWS since it allows spectators. These spectators could be the so-called rules-enforcers/judges, but there could be the issue of impersonation.

I'd love to have a tournament.
People at Magic League use mws.tipo1.it server which is by far more stable than mwsplay server. Almost no crashes.
