View Full Version : Do you double sleeve your cards?

I'm debating if its worth it. I only really play 1.5 so the cards in a deck are FBB duals, Force of will, most cards are 20 dollars plus.

Anyone else with more expensive decks running the perfect fit double sleeves?

IF you do what sleeves do you use with them'?

I do, and my cards aren't NM/FBB/pimp. I just think it's good practice. I got a set of 80 KMC Matte (Navy Blue, not shiny, the shiny versions are terrible) at an SCG Open and I haven't looked anywhere else since for sleeves.

Yes, and perfect fits can fit inside KMCs, most Ultra Pros, and Dragon Sleeves. I think the matte KMCs are the best for this.

It does make shuffling a bit more of a pain, but I think the extra protection is worth the trade off. Too many horror stories of people spilling drinks.

do most pros double-sleeve decks? From what I've seen their decks don't look too fat. Is there a reason for Matt over Super sleeves for KMC when it comes to double sleeving? The Matt sleeves have cracked on me, and Super has lasted most of the time, so I've been leaning to Super versions.

I bought some matt KMC's in gold and perfect size sleeves at Saturday. As I came back from the shop I found myself unable to fit the perfect size sleves into the KMC's:mad:. The KMC's I bought are so damn tight on their own that you couldnt fit even a single hair in addition in it. Sure, I am a bit exaggerating, but it is literally impossible to fit the perfect size in these. Its like trying to fit a banana into a beer bottle without damaging one of both... .
Is this just me or had someone else the same problem? I would be really interested. The perfect size fit perfectly into Dragon Shields and Ultra-Pro sleeves of mine but not in those damn KMC:frown:.

I am beginning to double-sleeve every deck I have duals, forces, wastes, etc. in. If there's ever a chance your cards will change ownership, do the people who come after you, and your wallet, a favor.

I usually double sleeve. Among other things to ease changing sleeves without risking to damage the cards. This is nice as I resleeve cards between various legacy decks as well as EDH decks.

I know this is excessive sleeving but i am proud of this.

My practice with my Vintage Card. Perfect size sleeves + Normal Sleeves + Penny Sleeves + Top Loader.

When i sell my cards the buyer never ask me why the condition of the card like this. even poor ones.
They know i am very careful with card.

With Legacy Cards. Perfect size Sleeves + Normal Sleeves.
I might change to Perfect size sleeves + Normal Sleeves + Penny Sleeves + Semi Rigid.

What kind of deck box do you use when you have a double sleeve deck?? My 75 double sleeved cards did not fit in ION Deck box..

i like the ultra pro matte sleeves. i use the perfect fits and have never had an issue loading them into the ultra pro mattes. i also use the larger ultra pro deck boxes with the magnetic cover and easily fit my 75 cards plus a sb divider and 6 sleeved creature tokens for my deck. i wish the perfect fit existed 15 years ago my older cards would have looked much better.

I don't double sleeve since it's a pain to shuffle like that. I haven't had a problem with scuffing, but I think that's due to the way I shuffle. I don't bend the crap out of them or really put them through a lot. I probably should double sleeve them, but I never seem to find those perfect fits easily.

It's a tight fit (I'll pause so all the perverts can make their jokes), but it works.

I'm using the two-deck box thing from Ultra Pro (for those of you who went to GP Nashville, it's that type of deckbox that was handed out). Dice in the upright one, deck in the sideways one. No problems yet.

Ultra Pro Mana Flip Box.

I use 2 of these and one of the gold ones that was a promo give away for a while for my Double Sleeved decks, they work fine.

There are many different versions of this, but it works well.

I do.

I play highlander with cards from my blue card collection. I got the japanese KMC "perfect size" sleeves and the silver Max protection ones.

One friend of mine is totally freak. He bought the most expensive standard size sleeves and the "Perfect size". Single card is covered with price of 1 Euro in sleeves :D

I think its best for people who use to play with older, or valuable cards. It will preserver their price and quality.

I don't. I just use KMC mattes, I have a set of perfect fits, but decks feel too bulky to me when double sleeved.

I just try to be sort of careful with shuffling, use a playmat, and play on clean surfaces. Haven't really run into trouble yet.

I double sleeve my legacy decks. I use Ultro Pro green sleeves. They're easy to shuffle and don't make the decks as "fatter" as Dragon Shields or KMC's.

I tend to use perfect fits + ultra pro (mox diamond or mana symbol art) sleeves for my vintage deck and anything that plays a significant number of duals or other valuable cards. These sleeves tend to stay the flattest and are more durable than anything else I've used.

Some of my lesser value decks like Ichorid I just use KMC matt sleeves.

I had the same issue as "I am the brainwasher" with double sleeving KMC 80 packs. They used to fit perfectly in the old 100 packs, but must have shrunk with the latest production.

Although the deck does get a bit thicker, I do double sleeve and will do it to every deck I bring to a tournament. Cards are too expensive and valuable now a days, especially older ones that if they get ruined, are hard to come across. I think it just help protect cards better from spills as well as transferring them in and out of decks. It also helps foils stay flat from my experience.

I double sleeve if I'm bringing the Pimp out. If I'm not, I regularly sleeve. My Humility Stax deck is double sleeved, but it has 4 Moats. My Rock deck with pimp duals will be double sleeved as well.

I've started to use KMC and haven't looked back since Dragonshields were discontinued.

I use a 100?ish white cardboard from ye olde local game store. It makes it easy to write your name on it too.

I double sleeve mostly because it's a very expensive deck, using Dragonshields. I had Matte KMCs at SCG DC, but had 7! split over 8 rounds, and a couple others having noticable side wear.

I have been double sledding for awhile now on all my Legacy and Vintage decks.

I used to use KMC Mat Black sleeves but have recently SETI he'd to using Ultra Pro ones (usually with the mtg card back or the Phyrexian ones). The problem I had with the KMCs is that they would eventually start scuffing even when just being shuffled and there was a production run of sleeves that didn't fit cards with Perfect Fit sleeves on them even though both are made by KMC!

I have heard the problem has now been fixed but I haven't gone back to them and won't unless Ultra-Pro starts s dewing things up.

I don't bother. I use matte sleeves for ease of shuffling but any damage I could possibly do to my sleeved cards is pretty minor and I'm not putting more than $10 worth of sleeves on any deck since I buy new sleeves for basically every new tournament. It adds up. Yeah, my deck is probably worth $800-$1000, but that's paying to buy the deck all over again every 80-100 tournaments. Cost/Benefit just doesn't make out. I've never had anyone spill drinks on my cards or seen any sort of damage while sleeved yet and I'm sure I've been to over 100 tournaments.

No and not even for my fully powered decks but...

1. I still have old Yanoman's and they are super long and super tough. So dirt, dust, and oil from hands really can't get down far enough to the top of the card and I have only had 1 or 2 split in ~10 years.

2. I play with physical cards very infrequently now.

3. I use a play matt to keep them above some of the grime.

4. I play 90% or more of my matches against adults now so the issue of a "kid" spilling his drink is a non-issue. We are big boys with caps/lids

5. If I were playing EDH in the bar then I would double sleeve my cards.

I've been using double sleeves for a over a year now and I like it.
I like keeping my cards worth their value and it's a minor investment since, compared to normal sleeves, never rip open during shuffling.

I do play in a bar sometimes.

A friend of mine was opposed to purchasing it, he bought a 2 packs so he could sleeve his 2 most played legacy decks, after goldfishing with TES he somehow dropped them in a puddle of water. (true story)
No damage at all to his cards.

Same experience with the Super series. I bought like 300 but now most have peeled and scuffed that I had to throw most of them away. It looks like my Matte KMCs won't last that long too. I'm switching to Matte Ultra Pros and the Perfect Sizes do fit snugly.

I used to, because well my deck is worth over five grand. But then I realized it made my deck look like shit. Japanese foils not being shiny? No.

You must be playing in quite dark locations. I have no problem at all with double sleeved foils. They are still very shiny!

He may have used Matte Ultra Pros, those plus Perfect Sizes = not too shiny.

Pretty much the same story with me. Foils looks so much better when they aren't double sleeved. Plus if someone puts water on a table I'm playing magic at, I will ask them to move it.

I do, and I have all my Legacy playables sleeved in an identical manner - Perfect Fit sleeves (put over the cards from top to bottom) in regular Ultra Pro Matte Black sleeves (put over the sleeved cards from bottom to top). My decks are kinda bulky because of that, but my Satin deck box can still perfectly fit 75 to 80 cards in it.

I don't understand why I shouldn't double sleeve my cards. When you're investing several hundreds od dollars/euros in cadboards (even thousands), you should.

I know a guy whose deckbox fell on a swimming pool (long story) and not a single one of his cards suffered any damage as they were double sleeved.

Nah, but all my cards are white bordered anti-pimp rubbish. I totally understand people with their Asian foil signed altered cards hiring armed guards to watch their binders at tournaments while they use the bathroom.

Started recently, some decks are worth way too much to just singe-sleeve them.

I've tested inner sleeves. All you need is:
- a friend
- a Jace the Mindsculptor
- a kitchen sink.

The result: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCMFjLwA5-4&feature=channel_video_title)

Sorry, the spoken Language is Dutch. All he says is that we're testing a double sleeved Jace, and that I need to do my dishes.

I double sleeve for two primary reasons:

First, everything I have is or will be for trade. I noticed on a lot of the cards from when I picked up again (especially cards that moved between decks a lot) that there was a lot of wear especially on the tops of the cards. Obviously, any wear at all is bad for trade value. Plus, I figure it really shows I care about the condition of my cards when my trading partner sees that all my good stuff is super protected.

Second, I'm currently trying to be able to build as many different decks as possible. This means that a lot of cards move from one deck to another, often with different [outter] sleeves. Again, I noticed that cards that moved around a lot were getting more wear, just from in and out of sleeves, onto the table, etc. Additionally, I find it really easy to slide perfect-fitted cards into my sleeves which makes the whole process significantly faster.

Currently using Perfect Fits + Ultra Pro Mox Diamond sleeves - squish the air out and you can get all 75 into the side-loading box perfectly

I don't use Perfect fits, but I do double sleeve a few of my decks. I use Matte KMCs then put those in KMC Character Guard sleeves. Not only do the Character guards have a nice symbol on the front, but I can just buy a new set of those instead of ever having to buy new sleeves (which means I could go for some moderately expensive, nice looking sleeves without having to worry about them peeling or breaking).

If you understood Dutch, you would have heard him say at the very end: "En nu met een echte jace (and now with a real Jace)". They used a scan and put it in from of some other card (like a basic or so). You can see him pull the piece of paper off the card in the last second or so.

Still, had me convinced untill I listened again.
