View Full Version : [Problem] Site doesn't work properly
Yeah, I figured I'd just post it here because I myself am absolutely clueless.
My problem is that the site doesn't seem to work properly for me, I can't look at pages of threads further than I've already read (example: last page of the Goblin primer I've read was #14, the forum says the thread is 15 pages long), as the forum will just load the last page I've read, even though it says it's the newest page in the adress bar.
It should also be noted that when I look at the different subforums, it doesn't display any new posts to me, almost as if time would stand still.
This problem arose yesterday and I haven't been able to resolve it myself.
Anyone got some input?

Same problem here. I tried different web browsers so I think its a site issue.
According to Nihil Credo it's being worked on. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

In the mean time you can try going into your settings and change the way posts are ordered within a thread - making new posts float to the front of a thread. May not work but it's worth a try.

If you're simply trying to get to the next page of the thread, you can modify your URL to do so. For example, to get to page 226 (it it exists) of the Merfolk thread just change:
http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?8158-[DTB]-Merfolk/page225
to:
http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?8158-[DTB]-Merfolk/page226
(After testing, it appears that if you set the number too high, it simply goes to the last page of the thread)
Hooray for MySQL queries embedded in URLs!
edit: lol database error when attempting to post this.

Changing the page number in the URL just ends up loading page 2 for most (if not all?) people.

To get around the multi-page problem, you can go to Thread Tools -> Print Thread, and then click the link to change the page number.
A ghetto fix until there's a better solution.
To give some help with the problem, threads themselves are working fine here. Every message is updating fine, I enter the thread and am able to see replies.
What is not working properly, at least for me, are the boards: When you enter Decks to Beat, Estabilished and so on, there the threads are not updated. If I enter a thread, it got its last replies.
This is easily checked: Current update from Estabilished Decks, in the main page, is:
[Deck] Next Level Threshold
by jazzykat
When I click "Estabilished Decks", none of the first decks are this one, instead, they are:
Meandeck MUD
[Deck] Elves Combo
[Deck] Team America
With NLThresh waaaaay down there in the updates.
EDIT: Also, when I enter NLThresh, the last update is, indeed, from jazzkat, Today @ 06:02 AM.
Hope it helps.

Doesn't let me go to the last page if it was started after this nonsense did. It will just link me back to the first one started before.

If I need to reply or view new threads. I choose to switch the view mode to threaded mode. I click on the most recent post and press esc to stop the page from redirecting me to the first post. I can do quick reply and reply with quotes this way.

I time warped a couple of threads for fun. Least you can enjoy yourself while they fix it. lol
There's a good one in the Banned Restricted argument threads. I made the post sound as if I was psychic. lol

Yep, that one appeared for me too right after the other issue got handled. Unfortunately this one seems to be host-related rather than a forum software issue, so we'll see how it can be fixed.
Reporting that it's all fixed here.

Yup, sorry, I got a few problems with the last page issue after comming back to "linear-oldest first"
Also, the database error persists, but it posts even when you get a database error, so no big deal there

Remind Zilla that I paid ten bucks when we re-subscribed to this dumb new system (I can find that crayon-looking shitty jpeg I drew to show how terrible this new thing is).
I expect a better standard of service for my ten dollars (plus the seventeen cents that pay pal charged me to send it) .

So, I'm assuming most/all of the problems are fixed. Great!

It doesn't look like this is the software, Zach. If this is host related, as Nihil pointed out, Zilla will probably have to do some Server work to get this fixed. Sucks, but such is life.

Exploring more options. It is possible that some procedures will need to be done with the forum closed, so don't be alarmed if the Source gets momentarily shut down.
EDIT: Ok, seems to have been fixed now for me. Please post in this thread (again) if you still see issues.

Still not fixed for me. In the Community Board this thread appears to have one page (19 replies). Inside the thread I can see that there are multiple pages, but I cannot access the second page. To do so I have to go to Advanced Reply, or show the printable version. "/page2" in the URL does not help.
I've been having a different issue for quite some time, don't know if they are related:
I'm unable to log in the the main page of the forum. If I do it simply returns me to the page without being logged in. However once I enter a subforum I am logged in. I can then press a link back to the front page to stay logged in there. If I instead use the back button to return to the front page, then refresh the page, I no longer appear to be logged in.

I am noticing I am also still seeing some weird issues. In the Meandeck MUD thread in Established Decks, the last post is currently by me (post #224) but the Established Forum index page lists the last post as being by kingtk3, who did make the post before mine (#223).

Working now for me. It could now be a browser based issue where some fixes are not being seen universally.

A possible hypothesis is that the main page isn't allowed to set cookies on your computer, or that some other privacy add-ons are messing with it. Please do the cleaning linked above and/or try visiting The Source with a different browser.

This was a a temporary issue; basically, you wrote your post while the PHP table was broken and didn't update. I tried adding a new post on that thread and the forum page updated correctly, then I deleted it and your post now appears as the latest.

I deleted all MTGtheSource-related cookies and cleaned my cache, however this issue did not go away. Doesn't bother me too much though, as the workaround is simple.
I could not reproduce the issue with Google Chrome, so the problem must be somewhere in my current Opera-installation.

Still having issues - although it seemed to clear up this morning for a bit? All the same identical issues that I had last week - database errors, not being able to see new posts, thead updates not showing up, etc.. I'll try again later with a different browser and computer to see if I have the same issues.

Ditto - got database errors while posting in multiple threads (Established, Tournament announcement)
Then, the sub-forums not showing the latest posts, only on the front page.

Edit: Database error while posting this post.
Edit #2: I got forcibly logged off while attempting to visit the last page of the "Sligh" thread in Established.
Edit #3: Database error on edit. Button:"Cancel post"
I still have Problems in the Team Forums. Posting in different Threads results in "Database Error". The Post is there afterwards in the Tread, but if I view the Forum, the thread isn't listed as "new" (marked dark blue and sorted on top as newest) and the last Post isn't shown as done by me.
Maybe the Database errors didn't come from registering/saving the Post, but instead from changing Thread-Status. It's normaly a different Table in the Database...
*edit* Posting in this Thread didn't produce a Database error.

That's because I re-ran the fix five minutes ago, after cdr PM'd me about it.
If the issue keeps reappearing every few days, it's going to be really annoying. We'll see.
Is this really Host-related or a Database problem? Is there anything, we can help with?
