Are there fixed dates for this? Is this going to happen?

No intention of pushing people that don't have the time for it right now, just asking, cos it used to update at a more regular rate, if I recall correctly.

What would the decks to beat be?

My suggestions:
-Goblins
-Zoo
-T.E.S.
-Affinity
-Merfolk
-Counterbalance
-Bant (aggro, natural order)
-Team America
-Junk (rock, dark horizons, whatever)
-Tempo Thresh (maybe?)

If it were a simple matter of opinion determining this it would be done at regular intervals easily. Opinion is NOT a factor.

It'll get updated when the format settles down, probably. Right now everything is still kind of up in the air with a few stand-outs just starting to show up.

AFAIK, DTB is all about statistical data... if the format is not settled yet, it still got a fair amount of tourneys providing data, right? Or am I wrong, there is not enough data for an update since last year?

Again, I don't know the reason for it not being updated, it would be enlightning to know. Even so, I don't think data is a problem anymore... I believe Deckcheck used to provide the data, and dtb stopped its updates since the fall of Deckcheck, and now there are at least 2 other options to get the data.

Although quite a few people have opinions on it, the SCG event series give us decent data as far as the United States metagame is concerned.

There are meta fluctuations. The bigger tournaments are motivating people to test and tune their decks, or switch them depending on what they predict to be in the next. There doesn't seem to be the one to three decks that come out ahead like there might have been before. There's a healthier format. Add to that, WotC is printing more and more legacy viable cards in recent sets further keeping the format from freezing. Why not just go off the tournaments from the last few months?

Yup... Alex Bertoncini's 3-0 performance with Merfolk makes it a DTB!

Based on recent data, I think ANT would be a DTB before TES.

Although someone uses the Legacy metagame: http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/metagame.php?format=Legacy

here in Spain, the biggest Legacy forum, factoriademishra.com uses an application i created with the tops from tcdecks: http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/tierdecks.php

It gives you the Tier decks of last month, the point system is based in this rule: one point for each round of the tournament, for example a 55 people tournament gives you 6 points and a 200 people 8 points. Then it gives1 point for each top 8 round won: 1 point to semifinalist, 2 points to finalist and 3 points to the winner and we update every month the tier decks of the forum.
This system excludes the rogue archetype and every tournamet with a participation under 17 players.
I now it's not perfect but gives an idea of the tier decks of each month.

Right now there's two more important issues at hand - making sure the site works properly, and that we have enough active staff to keep things going smoothly. Once those two (particularly the second) has been addressed, we're going to figure out a new system, ideally one that won't rely so much on torture.

Here is an idea. Why not get rid of the DTB section entirely. The meta seems to shift rapidly and at this point there is so much that is playable that knowing the local meta of where your playing is more important than knowing the national or global meta for most tournaments. If you want to know whats winning there are places for that, but this site should focus more on discussion of current decks and innovation of new archetypes.

DTB forum is there mostly for lazy people to make a testing gauntlet. But I'd agree that it's currently rather useless. Especially when it isn't updated monthly.

You might as well make sections for combo decks, aggro decks, aggro control decks and control decks. Like, for making a testing gauntlet it doesn't really matter.

This I agree. Although its not necessary useless. It helps a lot when you have limited time to playtest. It also helps sideboarding decisions if you're going to a big event.

Kinda like how the Mana Drain does it? I actually like this idea. Possibly under Established Decks thread, we could have these as sub threads? I usually group my decks together based on what the most effective sideboard cards to use against them.

If you want to know what to play test against (at least in the states) take a look at the last SCG Open top 8, you are guaranteed to see those decks popping up in the weeks after.
