Hey all,
For those of you going to GP: Providence, would you guys be interested in doing a meet-up dinner type thing?
I'm not sure how, when, or any details, I'm wondering if there's any interest to do some trading, meet some people, and eat some food?

I'd be down. Should be 3 or 4 of us riding together from the Albany area anyways.

I'm apparently coming up with like 3 other guys, if my work schedule allows. I'd enjoy having a meetup-type thing.
Have a few drinks and get ready for the tournament. Could be nice.
Things Are Planned at the GP. Stay tuned.

I might be going to the GP, depending on a few things. Is public transportation a viable option to get around the town, whether it is to the airport, a hotel, or the convention center?

I'm still on the fence about going because of gas costing a bajillion dollars a gallon and it being not exactly close by. I should look into grey hound and such I guess.

Argh. I'll actually be on the east coast for the week before the GP. That blows.

I'll also be there the week before. Maybe we'll do this on the Thursday since the rest of the weekend is totally full?

Any interest in t-shirts like our European friends were considering?

Can we find a cheap distributor?
T-shirts are pretty hard to do well unless someone has knowledge/connections. Small orders end up being something like $30/ea.
There will be other swag, also.

I'm hoping we could have either T-shirts with our user names or just name tags, and hopefully avatars. Morbid, I'm most familiar with the m*****-f****** bear-o-dactyl instead of your actual name, to be frank.
We can also run some practice matches, trade, etc. I'm most interested in talking shop, obviously.

Anyone know how close the event site is to the train station? I'd rather not have to get a hotel as I can take the commuter rail from Boston, but we'll see. I'll definitely be there one way or another.

From http://tjcollect.com/PVD_Grand_Prix.pdf (why .pdf? yeesh):
"Train Travel
Either airport offers connecting train service to Providence, and the station is two blocks from the Convention Center. You can also take the Amtrak train directly from downtown Boston to Providence. From New York you can take the Amtrak train directly to Providence."
Sounds like a 10 minute or so walk.

also, did anyone notice the entry fee? $40 for a constructed GP...

Jebus that's expensive.
GP:Boston was same price 2 years ago but that was sealed
Anyway, I'm having a big tourney the thursday before at my store and am doing 4 blue duals for first. It will replace my $5 weekly legacy and entry will be $10 instead. Four blue duals will be given out regardless of attendance. The actual playset given out will be based on how many entrants, but i suspect it will be trops or tundras. That would be thursday May 26th. I'll probably be ordering pizza for everyone too. We could also go for late night food after the tourney =D
My store is 10 minutes drive from the venue. The venue is 5 minute walk from the train station for those wondering.
I haven't decided if I'll be open on friday of that weekend. I will be most likely closed sat/sun, same I was for GP:boston.
But that thursday if sourcers are in town they are more than welcome at my store  I believe we'll be having a giant get-together.

If a store could hold it, that'd be swell. I can't see a restaurant being pleased with us playing Magic everywhere. We could have a shin-dig and everything. Maybe order some food, get out the plastic cups, and mingle!

Well my store is definitely being offered as a meet-up venue if you guys would like to chill and play some legacy. I'm doing a $10 thursday night event with free pizza and first will be 4 duals =)
http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?20497-Thursday-5-26-RI-10-Legacy-for-4-Blue-Duals-Die-Hard-Games-%29-Free-Pizza!&p=535933
Even if you don't want to play, sourcers are more than welcome at my store and I'll have both tv's on with free videogames for whoever wants to chill.
The actual GP:providence venue opens on friday so I didn't want to schedule an event then. I figured Thursday would be cool since I have weekly legacy on that day anyway. My hope is it will be a big get-together for sourcers. =)
- Dave
I'll most likely show up Thursday.
Don't complain. I have to take a 6 hour flight.
You're flying out to attend? You sir, are a brave worldly person.
I'll be flying in for this, and winning. See you there.

Is anyone else having difficulty with finding a hotel in the vicinity. I had to book at a site that is 12 miles away without a shuttle for sat and sunday. Im going to try to get there the most efficient way but I am having nightmares of the price of cab rides exceeding my airfare.

Did you try the hotels in the GP info? There's a $2 trolley that runs through downtown too, so at worst try to get a hotel by that.

Is anyone looking for people to split hotel costs? Some of my friends can't go because of price, now it looks like there may be just two or three of us going. Or, is there a kind person who lives nearby that has floorspace from 5/26 to the morning of 5/30? We'd pay in cash.
CDR, do you know of the name of the trolley system? Thanks.

The GP info is finally up on wizards.com instead of that PDF, so: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/tcg/events.aspx?x=mtg/event/grandprix/providence11
I dunno if they still have rooms, but the TO is providing a free shuttle from the Crowne Plaza and the Holiday Inn.

Not that you're ever going to be traveling between the two, but you can put your hotel in or something.

I wish i lived close to your store... My local shop doesn't have legacy interest, nor does utah really >.>
i wouldn't consider myself a sourcer... yet, but I might be getting some buddy passes through some friends that work at Delta, if I get them, There is no reason for me not to go.
What the tourney host should do is try and locate the gp's/ ptq's at hotels, that are also by airports, like they did in Denver. That way you have free shuttle there and to your hotel, it's a process, but it's worth it.
hotel you're staying at, shuttle to airport, then get a shuttle to said hotel that the event is at. Then repeat, but backwards at the end of the night.
I saved a massive amount of cash this way, along with others. ;) cheating the system.

I would almost be interested in coming to the tournament just to meet other Sources, but damn is it expensive. I might have enough miles to make it out there for free (maybe?) but I would really need a place to stay.
And testing partners, I guess.
