Some thoughts on Time Spiral and High Tide / Spiral Tide, plus a pretty sweet Stax deck with 4 Jace TMS, 4 New Tezz, and The Abyss, along with other odds and ends...

Good read, but this article reinforces this haunting feeling I have that the mothership is watching Legacy very closely right now...

Guillotine is a really old game, I'm surprised to see you giving it props. It's awesome though! Played that with my folks on vacation when I was a kid... mtg was always too complicated for them!

Nice article, this is one of my favorite game and the information and some tricks you mentioned are awesome. Legacy combo is nice to play any time, does you have interest in other games articles?

Another solid article. Not much else to say but thank you.
Edit: And I'm still hot on Dreadstill. Something about soft locks +12/12s that makes me giggle.

About Hermit Blaster:
I might be wrong, but if you activate Hermit Druid with no basic lands in your library and a Blightsteel Colossus on it we get an infinite loop that ends the game in a draw.

Great article with an accurate analysis of the legacy metagame. Also, I would love to give your SuperStax a spin!
Great read, pretty good analisys!
Although I should warn you that Trinisphere is not that good as a 5/5 creature unless it has Vigilance. ;P

Cross-post from SCG forums:
Also, just to clarify, as this has come up a few times, the article says:
“You haven’t lived until you’ve played a turn one Trinisphere and then a second turn Tezzeret, turning Trinisphere into a 5/5. “
I guess that people are reading an implied “… and then BASH FACE!” after that sentence, but that’s not what I meant, the sentence is just not worded correctly, so that's my fault. In testing, this sequence came up as a defensive measure against Vial into Goblin Lackey. It’s just one of the crazy things you can do with this deck that people don’t expect; specifically, Tezz gives you an ability to quickly finish games that I found lacking in the white versions of Stax that were briefly popular a while back. When your Chalice of the Void on 1, or your Crucible of Worlds, or your extra 3Sphere is bashing in for 5 damage a turn, you get the benefit of playing Stax but still have time to grab a sandwich in-between rounds.
Just to say, I kinda figured it was a defensive move, specially when you are playing Stax decks, which are all defense, although my first thought on that was "and halt any opposing Tarmogoyf"...
I just wanted to say it anyways, as for the first thing I thought was "but trinisphere will be a defender!".
Unfair move of me, I admit it. The article is pretty good, even better because it actually doesn't try to prove everyone that Dredge is bad and easy to play, as I usually see. ^^

“Two Opens in the last month were easily taken down by the Time Spiral menace, and I warn everyone that it will only get worse.” –Shaheen Soorani
I think I have a different definition of the term “easily.”
See, this is why I enjoy your articles Matt. You summarize your arguments in one-line, but they've been backed by evidence and multiple paragraphs, going through the sequence of the so-called 'easy' wins by the Hatfields.
Not sold on the Hermit Druid list i.e. if you don't get it turn 1, seems awefully slow (turn 3 combo O_O) but definitely looks fun :P
+1 on Gavin Verhey doing a great job on SCGLive. alot of times I still wonder what the hell he's saying when he's interpreting the plays incorrectly, but it's still freaking hard to commentate on Legacy in a Live setting.

No, because the cards are being revealed and then put into the graveyard in an order of your choosing.

In case it wasn’t clear – my point in writing about that finals match with Jesse vs. David was not to suggest David was a bad player, it was to point out how close Jesse came to losing, to dispel this idea that the Hatfields won “easily”. David got the farthest of any Dredge player in an SCG $5K or Open to date; I was not trying to suggest he’s not a good player. As it turns out, the last 7 cards of David’s deck contained both Flame-Kin Zealot and Sphinx of Lost Truths. This is the key thing I alluded to in my article; while the choice of Echoing Truth is probably somewhat suboptimal given Turnabout, the final game really came down to David either a) getting unlucky by having his Dread Return targets at the bottom of his deck through no fault of his own, or b) making the bad decision to sideboard them out. As it turns out, those cards were in his deck, and having them both be in the bottom 7 cards was just plain bad luck. That bad luck is the reason why Jesse “easily” won that SCG Open.
I'll clarify this in my next article as well.
