Hi you fellow sourcers. I've been scouting these forums for quite a while now. Now I feel that it's time to make a small contibution by sharing my petdeck with you. The deck is Blue-Artifact Control with a combo finish. I'll start with the decklist.
// Lands: 22
6 Basic Island
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Saprazzan Skerry
4 Wasteland
2 Seat of the Synod
1 Academy Ruins
1 Riptide Laboratory
// Spells: 38
4 Force of Will
4 Thirst for Knowledge
2 Compulsive Research
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Chrome Mox
2 Ensnaring Bridge
2 Pithing Needle
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 Expedition Map
1 Grindstone
1 Painter's Servant
4 Trinket Mage
3 Willbender
2 Sower of Temptation
4 Tezzeret the Seeker
// Sideboard: 15
4 Propaganda
3 Arcane Laboratory
2 Wipe Away
3 Ratchet Bomb
2 Pithing Needle
1 Elixir of Immortality
As you see it's a staxlike approach on Tezzerator with a slight twist. The goal of the deck is obviously to create a soft/hard-lock with Chalices and Ensnaring Bridge, while developing my board state and lowering my handsize. Although the gameplan is quite simple, it might be hard to execute due to various factors.
Sometimes it's a matter of misplays, due to wrongfully reading the opponent's deck or anticipating his line of play. Other times I get into trouble when facing broken aggro plays (Aether Vial), not getting the Chalice/Needle down in time to stabilize via Ensnaring Bridge. Therefore the SB features 4 Propaganda to help stalling aggro. When I size up this deck against other decks, I always look at the broken stuff first since that is what primarily could kill me.
Usually those are quite easily manageable if it weren't for disruption (doh). Taxing counters and denial are bitches when playing this deck, mostly due to it's high curve... though the acceleration helps a bit. Another issue is dealing with destructive spells at different/high CC:s, for example when facing Rock/Junk. For these matchups Willbender and Sower of Temptation help a lot.
The deck is generally strong against Red and Black (goblins being the exeption). The matchup against dredge is favorable, especially postboard. Usually games against various combo are good, though sometimes I get blown out by multiple disruption while on the draw. Control matchups differ by their disruptionsuite and are slightly good to slightly bad pre/postboard.
The worst matchup by far is merfolk, the gameplan is simply to act as wide receiver and hope he gets sloppy by overextending with multiple lords into an Ensnaring Bridge. SB Propaganda helps but is usually not enough.
More is coming on matchups/estimations and card choices when I have time to write more.
Input and constructive criticism are both welcome as i am trying to optimize the decklist for tourneys to come. Thanks for reading:).
