Hi,

I'm Saruna, and as you probably guessed by the subject of this post, I have ulterior motives. Don't worry, I'm no soul-sucking bot. I've been playing MtG for about 5 years, my husband introduced me to it, but I had seen it before and was interested. Unfortunately, growing up in the bible belt with a fanatical christian family meant that anything with "Magic" in the title was automatically bad. Fortunately, I got away from that and have been playing ever since.

All semester I've been working on a project for my Cultural Anthropology Research Methods class about Magic the Gathering. I've been conducting interviews in person locally at FNM and at the college campus but I could really use some additional opinions. I've put my survey online and would really appreciate it if some of you could find the time to answer it.

Oh, before I forget - your responses will be kept confidential. For that matter, the only one who will read my Ethnographic Report will be my anthropology professor. Nothing will be published.

With the disclaimer done, here's the link if anyone is interested:

Thanks,
Saruna

Quite some questions about my significant other. I don't have a significant other. I do have a girlfriend though

It was pretty cool, thanks for posting.

Only thing I'd say is the part where you ask how many decks I have; one of the things I love about Magic is building decks, trying to make a given pile of cards work together in a certain way. I have about ten thousand cards, so I assume you were asking how many archetypes I can build and threw a number out there. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I'd narrow it down somehow, maybe asking how many commonly accepted/known metagame decks you can assemble or something.

Other than that, nice work.

pretty awesome survey, and I agree with my friend Coraz that the number of decks question should be a little narrowed since I have thousands of cards and some cards get switched between decks and at any one time I can only have a limited amount of decks, but I have available to me many other decks because of my large collection.

Very interesting, I'm glad to help. I actually wouldn't mind knowing your conclusions, but you already stated that no one would get to see them. Perhaps your generalized conclusions could be shared?

+1, I've kind of always wanted to do this sort of study, but I never had time to either take an anth class for which to do it or to do it for curiosity's sake.

Interesting and good luck with the paper & class. Filled it out, feel free to quote any responses as necessary and I would enjoy actually reading the end result.

It's been entertaining. I hope my responses will be understandable. Sorry for my English if they aren't.

I did it, I think the survey is put together well. But I think you'll get a bias towards a competitive side by sampling this forum
