This card has me absolutely stumped. As a removal spell, it kills quite a bit of the format, with a cost ranging from 1 to 3 mana, depending on how much life you can pay. It fits in black's piece of the pie (though other colors can use it as a pseudo-Snuff Out). The problem is how to utilize this card. I believe that if you're going to play black, you need some kind of CA, whether you're playing MBC, The Gate, or SuiBlack. But this doesn't really play well with black's form of CA. Am I nuts? It plays with Confidant about as well as Snuff Out does - that is to say, poorly. It's impact with Phyrexian Arena isn't quite as dramatic, but you're at once more likely to kill yourself with Arena, as it can be difficult to find an out if you're dangerously low on life. This suggests that for a deck to support Black's CA, you would need lifegain - but of what type? Jitte? SoLaS? This would lead us to playing a deck heavy with creatures. I just want to generate some discussion on this card.

I would consider using this as removal spells 17-20, after Smother, Go for the Throat, Doom Blade and Ghastly Demise :)

It's actually probably better than Ghastly Demise, as it's easier to enable in a wider range of decks and doesn't get randomly turned off by Crypt.

What decks that don't have access to black would make room for this card?

I think the main reason this is interesting is for its ability to be played in non-black decks. As you mentioned, black has a ton of relevant options already and this isn't really better. In anything that doesn't have access to White or Black mana, though, this is cheap fattie-removal. Merfolk with spotremoval without needing to splash? Something to kill Rhox War Monk and similar threats for burn? That's much more what I expect this card to do, break boundaries.

Burn/Sligh could also use this card against Phyrexian Obliterator without clearing their board.

1 mana removal that gives you sound mental footing. (No mental missteps here.)

I see what you did there.
