OK, so I like the idea of heavy disruption in legacy, and think it is really powerful (team america style) but I dont really like the green aspects of the deck. Also, tribal decks, from my experience, can beat that strategy with the limited removal they have. So I was thinking of a similar deck, but with a Red splash, similar to the deck AJ Sacher's used to win SCG Charlotte. I have been brewing this for a few weeks, so I was looking for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on the choices made, and how people think it would compete. I have a limited number of people in my play group that have competitive legacy decks, so I havent been able to fully test it, but I wanted to at least see what y'all thought, so here it is...

Lands - 22

4x Scalding Tarn
2x Bloodstained Mire
3x Badlands
2x Volcanic Island
1x Underground Sea
1x Mountain
2x Island
2x Swamp
4x Wasteland
1x Academy Ruins

Creatures - 11

4x Dark Confidant
4x Grim Lavamancer
3x Trinket Mage

Spells - 27

4x Force of Will
4x Brainstorm
4x Hymn to Tourach
3x Fire // Ice
3x Jace, the Mind Sculptor
2x Spell Snare/ Spell Pierce?
2x Inquisition of Kozilek
2x Thoughtseize
1x Sensei's Divining Top
1x Engineered Explosives
1x Basilisk Collar

Sideboard - 15

4x Pyroblast
3x Tormod's Crypt
3x Perish
2x Umezawa's Jitte
2x Smother
1x Spell Pierce/ Spell Snare?

Early Game you disrupt with discard, and counter magic, then win off card advantage of Bob, Jace, and Trinket Mage. I was thinking of taking out the Trinket mage and his package to replace it with more threats, but could not think of what would work well, so any ideas are welcome, thanks!

Fire/Ice off of Confidant kind of hurts a long with Jace and Force, but I like the idea. Confidant + Lavamancer + Trinket Mage are three of the best creatures in Legacy currently. I would want to fit 4 Stifle and 1 Dreadnought in there somewhere as well, though.

I think that you need to look at the manabase. Getting BB for hymn consistenly while also getting UU for Jace and having R seems somewhat hard to me. What I am trying to say is that I think you should add more duals and less basics.

Needs more Vendillion Clique. Hymn doens't work unless all of your mana make black.

I really like this deck. Although i do want to cut Fire/Ice for proper removal, but you also need to keep the blue count up.

Also realise that engineered plague on human is fucking brutal against this deck.

I really like the idea for the deck, especially the Basilisk Collar tech. I do, however, have some critiques of your list.

1. The mana base is out of whack. Most Team America just run duals, fetches, and wasteland because hitting the right colors is just that important. Keeping this in mind, I would cut the basics and Academy Ruins, because they make your already unstable mana base even more so.

2. Fire/Ice seems like you just threw it in because it's a staple of the color combo. I think you should consider different removal that doesn't cost you 4 life with Confidant. Go for the Throat seems better in that slot.

3. 3 Jace seems awkward, especially when flipped off Confidant. You already have pretty solid card advantage through Bob and Hymn, so you might consider cutting a Jace or two for Vendillion Clique, because he gives you something else to throw equipment on.

My first thought when I saw Mental Misstep spoiled was to make a Urb Stifle/Waste deck feat. Confidant. It was decent in testing, but there were some problems. The lifeloss from Confidant, MM, fetchlands and FoW quickly add up, and when you couple that with an inability to quickly kill the opponent and the fact that your deck can only put chump blockers on the board, you have a problem. The most logical solution would be to play some Dreadnoughts, but I personally don't like playing that card, so I just abandoned the deck.

As for your list, 1) add Mental Misstep, if you weren't planning to 2) lower your curve - your avg. cmc is way too high (Bob will kill you) 3) you have too many basics to reliably cast Hymn on turn 2. Either cut Hymn or go down to 1 basic (or none at all). 4) play some kind of hard removal (you are in black, after all...) 5) consider playing Stifle 6) cut Thoughtseize

I tried to keep in more basics so I don't roll over to back to basics/ wasteland/ blood moon and those type of effects. I will play with the mana base, b/c it was the most "thrown together" part of the deck. I used to have clique in the deck, but I liked the trinket mage package, so I took them out for that. also, the basilisk collar is there not only to kill any creature with lavamancer, but hopefully gain some life back. My problem with Go for the Throat/ doom blade/ ghastly demise/ is I start getting way low on the blue count for FoW, and then they can be dead in hand. also, fire // ice can be really good even in matchups where it cant kill creatures, but can tap out a land after I have wastelanded them, and destroyed their hand, its like a time walk, or just tap out an attacker or blocker and cycle itself. I also thought about changing the shell, and filling in a playset of Tops and Counterbalance. that lets me control the life loss from confidant better, and can really lock out an opponent after they have been disrupted from getting back in the game. What about adding the counterbalance shell, and then I can take out fire // ice and put in some "real" removal?
