Loved your report
I loved this report. Write more of them, please.
I wish everyone would make reports like this one.
It is always fun to read dredge reports
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Please do not misunderstand me: I'm not writing a report because those people liked the previous one - I just want to clog the Tournament Reports section. I swear.

After two weeks of agony (New Phyrexia Prerelease and Release events) and despair (I realized Mental Misstep was Legacy legal) I couldn't remember how to properly play my deck, so I went to the same exact local shop I've been going to for Over 9000 years hoping my innate skill would've helped me out with some problems I was going through. My hopes were crushed by the time I wrote down my list, since I realized it sucked. To make things worse I couldn't rely on skill, since I don't have any, nor I will.

I suddenly remember I own Dredge as my only deck, so I run as fast as I can trampling everything in my path to the store because I have ordered a playset of Firestorms, which OF COURSE I couldn't pack in my 75 because the shipper had done something I didn't understand. No red instants for me :(

But!!! The weather is bad: with fewer people, it'll be easier to win.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Same list as always, because I'm in love with horrible builds. As soon as I sat down to the table waiting for the pairings, I noticed almost everyone was playing Merfolk or combo decks. But the Art of Avoiding Bad Matchups glances like a sunshine to a pure man's eye.

Round 1 - Burn
While there were like 41633 Merfolk mirrors all over the place, I faced burn. Easy matchup. Of course I had to struggle against it because my deck is so consistent, and I had to mull down to 5. He went down to 6, but I won the die roll because he rolled a d6 while I used a d20. Yep, it's a joke. I won regularly and opened with City of Brass, Tireless Tribe, Cephalid Coliseum, Ichorid, and Stinkweed Imp. Instant keep. First turn Tribe, he bolts me. I dredge 4 lands and a Putrid Imp, because I'm a pretty good Dredge pilot. He bolts me again, and again, putting me down to 10. I EOT discard Ichorid and exhume it in my upkeep, then I dredge a Golgari Grave-Troll and a Cabal Therapy. I attack with both Ichorid and Tribe, then I discard Stinkweep Imp, play Coliseum, and chain dredge into Iona, 4x Bridge from Below, but no DR, Narcomoebas nor additional Therapies. I decide to flashback Cabal Therapy naming Fireblast, and he has it. I see a Mountain, Price of Progress and Rift Bolt. He plays his land and casts Rift Bolt by paying :2::r:, but next turn I mill Dread Return, and Iona ends the game.

-4 Breakthrough, -1 Ichorid, +4 Ancient Grudge, +1 Careful Study

It's always nice to have Tarnished Citadel as the only land, g2, especially against Burn. I keep a hand with Citadel, Golgari Thug, Putrid Imp, double Careful Study, Bridge from Below and Ancient Grudge. He starts with Mogg Fanatic. Ugh. Due to a divine intervention I draw City of Brass, which I tap to cast Putrid Imp. He EOT sacrifices Mogg Fanatic, but while the ability is on the stack I discard Thug, Bridge from Below and Grudge. I have a Zombie token on the battlefield, but no additional discard outlets. He plays a Hellspark Elemental, nuking my Bridge. I dredge 4, putting a Narcomoeba into play and a Stinkweed Imp into my graveyard. Time to play Careful Study, dredging into nothing but useless cards, except for a Cabal Therapy (which I flashbacked naming Volcanic Fallout, promptly put into its owner's graveyard). Goodbye Narcomoeba. The hand he kept wasn't that good, so I played Citadel, took 3 from it, played the second Study and won with Iona naming red.

Round 2 - Affinity
He wins the die roll and keeps his 7, while I mull down to 6 and keep a hand with Coliseum, GGT, Study and Breakthrough + random useless cards. He kinda deploys his hand in the very first turn, while I draw an incredibly useful Narcomoeba and play Study seeying Tribe and a Gemstone Mine. He plays Cranial Plating and equips a Memnite with it, which suddenly became an Optimus Prime-sque artifact. But my GGT finds me two additional dredgers: I play Tribe, discard Troll, and play Breakthrough for the win.

-4 Breakthrough, -1 Iona, Shield of Emeria, +4 Ancient Grudge, +1 Careful Study

As usual, Tarnished Citadel is my only land, and as usual, I mull down to 6, keeping with Tribe, Putrid Imp, Grudge, Study, Golgari Thug and Narcomoeba. He leads with turn 1 Relic. I drew Coliseum as the second land, then played Imp. Next turn he plays Mox Opal +413236 spells and the TES player who sat down next to my opponent asked to lend him some storm count. I was afraid of Tendrils of Agony, but after my mind blowed at the sight of an army of Ornithopters, Memnites and a Master of Etherium, instead of dredging I decided to draw, because I'm greedy and I wanted to obtain a 2x1 with Ancient Grudge, which will be done 'cause the card I drew was the third land. I nuke both his Relic and a Master of Etherium, and I also have Putrid Imp and Thug to restart. Well, he draws Thoughtcast, sees Galvanic Blast, killing my Imp, and Cranial Plating, beating me down to death.

G3 was of nonsignificant value: he slays me with Plating and double Galvanic Blast.

Round 3 - Glimpse Elves
I win the die roll, leading with turn 1 Tribe into turn 2 Iona. Problem, monocolored strategies?

-4 Breakthrough, -3 Golgari Thug, -1 Ichorid, +4 Ancient Grudge, +3 Darkblast, +1 Careful Study

He makes lots of mana and creatures with Green's Sun Zenith and Summoner's Pact, but he didn't prepare well for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse. He almost gets there due to Elvish Archdruid, but Iona ensures his Nettle Sentinels didn't untap, and I had too many zombies to block with, so it's gg.

Round 4 - TES
I win the die roll and since my deck absolutely loves me, I have to mull again, drawing 6 cards which I never thought I would have drawn. I play Careful Study, seeing Coliseum and another land, discarding GGT and Bridge from Below. While he cantrips, I dredge GGT into a Narcomoeba and Ichorid. I decide not to play Coliseum because I had two Therapies in my opening grip. First Therapy hit a Dark Ritual, the second one hit LED, then I taught him the numbers from 3 to 21 thanks to Ichorid's support.

-1 Ichorid, +1 Careful Study

I knew he only had Echoing Truth postboard, that's why I sided out Ichorid for additional gas. He plays Thoughtseize, I have a hand with Coliseum, Study, Breakthrough, Bridge from Below and 3 dredgers. Study goes to the graveyard, but I'm not willing to lose because of it. I believe in my deck, and shouting out loud "Yu-Gi-Oh!!!" earns me a Careful Study off the top of my deck, as well as a good amount of claps and hurrays by the entire room. Careful Study into pure awesome, I discard two of my dredgers, and next turn I cast Breakthrough, raping my opponent's hand with 4x Cabal Therapies (discarding Burning Wish, Infernal Tutor, Rite of Flame and Lotus Petal), following with Iona naming blue, to avoid both bounce and cantrips.

Round 5 - TES
I.D.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
4th with 10 points.

Top8 - Glimpse Elves
Same guy as before. I mull down to 6 keeping with Bridge from Below, Putrid Imp, Stinkweed Imp, Cabal Therapy, Dread Return, and Tarnished Citadel. He wins the die roll and starts with Nettle Sentinel. I draw a very useful Ichorid, and drop my Imp, taking a bolt from Citadel. He plays a ton of 1/1 Elves, but my very first dredge flipped Iona, a Narcomoeba and Bridge from Below. Well, I discarded the second Bridge and Dread Return, played Therapy naming Grapeshot, only to kill my Narcomoeba with its flashback (I didn't want to discard it and felt safer by first hardcasting the spell) to allow me for a second turn Iona without accelerators. YOU MAD?

-4 Breakthrough, -3 Golgari Thug, +3 Ancient Grudge, +3 Darkblast, +1 Careful Study

I dediced to side in only 3 Ancient Grudge because I saw him casting Ravenous Trap against another dredge player. He had 3x Traps and 1x Relic of Progenitus, and I didn't want to side in 4 cards just because of a single one. Do I need to say it? He started with Relic. I had an invincible hand, though. Look at my awesomeness: City of Brass, Bridge from Below, Dread Return, Golgari Grave-Troll, Careful Study, Gemstone Mine, and Darkblast. To make things better, I draw Ancient Grudge, which I discard together with a GGT, forcing my opponent to crack Relic: he plays Llanowar Elves thereafter. I topdeck Cabal Therapy, which I use to name Ravenous Trap and keep me informed about the development of my opponent's board. He discards Trap and makes a "OMFG how did you know that?" face, while my expression strangely resembles Norman Bates' grin, and I kill Llanowar Elves with Darkblast. I slowly take care of all his creatures, until I have enough Ichorids and Narcomoebas to flashback Dread Return and win with some legendary 7/7 creature with flying.

Top4 - Affinity
I mull into oblivion hoping the game would end quickly. Luckily, it does so.

-4 Breakthrough, -1 Iona, Shield of Emeria, -1 Ichorid, +4 Ancient Grudge, +1 Careful Study, +1 Angel of Despair

I didn't need to sb Angel of Despair, but the card has an affective value for me, and every time I board it in, I win. I keep with Tribe, Grudge, double Study, Golgari Grave-Troll, Gemstone Mine, City of Brass. First turn Tribe was crucial: he leads with Seat of the Synod, Mox Opal and Relic of Progenitus. During my upkeep, I discard Ancient Grudge to nuke Relic, so my opponent cycles it. I discard Golgari Grave-Troll and dredge 6, with the first Careful Study speeding me up. I manage to DR a second turn Angel of Despair destroying his Synod. He plays another land, but he's stuck at 1 mana, since he can't activate Mox Opal, and tries to resist with some Ornithopters, but not even Master of Etherium could help him, since Angel of Despair has flying.

G3 was like the simplest thing ever. I think seeing all 4x Ancient Grudge was helpful, though I'm not quite sure xD

Finals - Dark Depths
He asks me to split the prizes, and I don't want to be remembered as an abject, so I accept. 'Made the rhyme, d'ya hear this chime?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You already knew in the very first place my report wouldn't have been interesting/insightful, so if you are reading these words it means you either:

A: Have lots of spare time
B: Thought reading 'em would have been useful
C: Didn't see the name of the OP
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And now, the "most important things" section! YAY!!!

1- I'm a terrible player (need to specify it in every report as you might think otherwise)
2- Mental Misstep wasn't an issue
3- Mental Misstep isn't an issue, if you play around it. I mean, literally.
4- Mental Misstep isn't an issue if you don't play against decks packing Mental Misstep
5- Did you notice everytime you play Dredge and desperately need a card off the top of your deck you draw Narcomoeba?
6- THE GAME. Well, just to make sure you lost it.
7- I also need an english teacher, I guess >-<
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope to write another report soon, fellow Sourcers. See ya!!!

Yeah, I think I am as good as you are very often =P

Great report, bad decklist, as always ;)

Was a pleasure to read and also props for quoting a very wise man in the OP

U sure? Thank you very much.

I'm almost weeping when I think about it.

Yeah, I think I am as good as you are very often
Nice to know I'm not alone in the universe^^

I HATE YOU!
Problem, Sourcers?

Great report, bad decklist, as always ;)
Of course: ordinary humiliation isn't enough. Losing to me + me playing a bad decklist = suicide for almost all of my opponents.

Ahaha you win =)

Makes me want to Dread Return my Dredge deck. Good job.
Much appreciated. And please, call your deck Dredge-Return.

-------MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER-------

I wrote down "Team America" on my decklist, so people searching for an actual Team America build will find Dredge, instead. Problem?

Of course: ordinary humiliation isn't enough. Losing to me + me playing a bad decklist = suicide for almost all of my opponents.

That's the exact reason why I ran Vizzerdrix as Maindeck DR Target in a huge MWS testing session yesterday, it's just sheer humiliation if the opponent loses to Dredge while holding a hand of multiple missteps, one STP and gets beaten to death by a Vizzerdrix.

Iona seemed pretty good against the matchups you faced. That must also be some sort of an art. Also, Vizzerdrix is hilarious.

Acutally, I call it Dredge Me to Hell.

I would refrain from this deck title, thogh, considering everyone and their mother calls it like this

Iona is pretty good - full stop. I can't conceive Dredge without this creature.

I call it Dredge Me to Hell.

I would refrain from this deck title, though, considering everyone and their mother calls it like this
Right, that's how my deck was called, over a year ago.

======> Dredge me to hell - zombies take the gold (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?17587-Dredge-me-to-hell-zombies-take-the-gold) <======

Also, the Walking Dredge.

======> The Walking Dredge (Top4) (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?19793-The-Walking-Dredge-%28Top4%29) <======

Unluckily there are no reports for HMS Dredgenought or Judge Dredge, since I didn't write 'em on this site.

5c Dredgestill?

I think I'm gonna put emphasis on me playing Elesh Norn SB and being a German, and therefor a Nazi ( only logical conclusion) by stealing shamelessly from Erik "Brot ohne Kruste" and call my deck "The Grand Genocide" in the future. You know, Elesh Norn, the Grand Genocide...
