Ok the situation is, I have a thrun out on the board, with like 8 mana open, he on his turn plays a thrun himself which triggers the legendary rule. Is legendary consider destroying the card or just straight putting in the graveyard? I ask this mainly to ask if I could regenerate my thrun in response and keep it alive. If it destroys I would expect yes, but if it does not destroy I would expect no.

The legends rule doesn't "trigger". It's a so-called "State-Based Effect" (SBE). There are several of those (e.g. losing the game for having 0 life, a creature with 0 thoughness being put into the graveyard, etc.) and the game checks for those each time right before a player receives priority. Once it recongnizes of of those, the corresponding effect is applied without players being able to respond to it.
Thus when your opponent's Thrun comes into play both trolls die without either of you being able to respond to it. Note that you can respond while your opponent's Thrun is on the stack although regenerating your troll won't help because the legend rule puts those creatures into the yard. It doesn't destroy them.
Good answer, but it's "State Based Action" now.
