View Full Version : Vedalken Tribal/Stompy
An idea I had from the [M12] thread that holds promise. This list is pure theory-craft right now. The idea was basically a deck that has this following base:
4 Etherium Sculptor
4 Adaptive Automation
4 Phyrexian Metamorph
4 Master of Etherium
4 Sculpting Steel
4 Copy Artifact
4 Force of Will
4 Chalice of the Void
Giving you Chalice, Force of Will, 8 lords, and 4 Warcheifs, And 12 ways to copy your lords (20 lords!) and or war cheifs.
----------
Bruizar came up with this list:
//CREATURES
4 Etherium Sculptor
4 Adaptive Automation
4 Phyrexian Metamorph
4 Master of Etherium
4 Copy Artifact
2 Ethersworn Adjudicator
//REST
4 Force of Will
4 Thoughtcast
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
//MANA
3 Mox Opal
4 Seat of synod
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Polluted Delta
4 Island
1 Underground Sea
1 Tundra
-------------
anyway hopefully this deck can actually be built upon since it does seem like there is a lot of potential

Needs more Tezzeret. Steel Overseer>Etherium Sculptor.
Everyone is suggesting Tezz 2.0 instead of Jace so there's that... If i would have to make changes in Bruizar's list at the moment it would simply be -3 Jace +3 Tezz.
----
Steel overseer doesn't share a creature type with Master of E. Which make Adaptive Automation not really a lord, but yeah i see your point as steel overseer is effectivly a lord lord.
----
Also i have mixed opinions about Ethersworn Adjudicator as it looks like danger of cool things... perhaps replacing it with the original scuplting steel or sculpter (assuming im replacing sculpter with overseer)

What about grand architect? It's vedalken and many of your creatures are artifacts/blue. It also allows you to power out some of your bigger creatures faster (ie Ethersworn Adjudicator)

Yeah, I was just about to suggest Grand Architect. I have a homebrew with that and the Pili-pala combo, with enablers such as Sculptor and Vedalken Engineer. I can go infinite mana for BSZ, or just drop bombs such as Mindslaver and Wurmcoil Engine as early as Turn 3.

Tezzeret is probably a good suggestion, but I also like Jace. I think that boils down to testing. This deck could support both very well. What I really like is that Tezzeret improves your board a lot more than Jace, and Tezzerets 'Lim dul Vault' digs deeper and is +1, whereas Brainstorm is +0.
What I really like, and want to test/see, is if the copy artifacts can ramp your lands fast enough when you don't have Ethersworn Sculptors in your hand

Steel Overseer is not Vedalken nor is it blue. Steel Overseer is a good card, but I don't think you can cut Etherium Sculptor.
Some one just pointed out how crazy stupid Lodestone gets with all the copy effects...again not a Vedalken but worth thinking about... So far i have this list in my head
3 Mox Opal
4 Seat of synod
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Polluted Delta
2 City of Traitors
2 Island
1 Underground Sea
-20 lands
4 Steel Overseer
4 Phyrexian Metamorph
4 Master of Etherium
4 Lodestone
2 Etherium Sculptor
2 Adaptive Automation
- 20 creatures
4 Shaping Steel
4 Copy Artifact
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Force of Will
4 Tezzeret 2.0
-20 Other
This is a work of progress of course just trying diffrent stuff out...

I doubt that you're going to use Sculpting Steel often to either copy a Chalice (for 0) or another land.
Considering this, wouldn't be the new Phantasmal Image (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=120585&d=1309233685) an alternate option? Despite its drawback, it's one mana cheaper and also pitches to FoW.

I definitely think that 12 copy effects are a bit too much. I tested a list of my own for a while and i found that sculpting steel was just not really worth it. Oftentimes, you end up with a copy effect with nothing to copy. So i think 8 is plenty. Instead of the 4 sculpting steels, i used 4 grand architects which often helps you vomit your hand out. It's not a true lord, but the only thing it doesn't pump are tezz creatures and automaton. I also added in 2 Jace's Archivist as a way to replace excess spells in your hand, ie extra chalices or lands. It sometimes even nets you a card advantage in the process. Overall, i think the deck has a good mid-game when it just craps out lord after lord, but its fairly weak in the beginning with virtually nothing to do on turn 1-2. I think spellskite may help out a bit vs early pressure as well as protecting the early drops. He just doesn't get pumped by most of the lords.

Why should anyone play this over Steel Stompy?
Its technically the same deck with worse choices.
