Donating permanents with ablities on the stack

I have several questions that have been brought up playing Zedruu the Greathearted's ability:


RedWhiteBlue: Target opponent gains control of target permanent you control.

The problems come about when changing controllers of permanents with triggered abilities on the stack. For example:

Situation #1
Opponents control none of my permanents. I play primordial ooze.

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on Primordial Ooze. Then you may pay Variable Colorless, where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on it. If you don't, tap Primordial Ooze and it deals X damage to you.
Then, on my upkeep I wait for Zedruu and Primordial Ooze's triggered abilities to be on the stack. I use Zedruu's activated ability, giving my opponent control of Primordial Ooze.


Is this what happens?:
Opponent gains control of Ooze.
I choose not to pay for Ooze ability and take 1 damage from Ooze and Ooze becomes tapped.
I draw 1 card and gain 1 life from Zedruu's triggered ability.

Situation #2
I play Thought lash while zedruu is in play.

Cumulative upkeep—Exile the top card of your library.
When Thought Lash's cumulative upkeep isn't paid, exile all cards from your library.
On my upkeep, with thought lash's cumulative upkeep trigger on the stack, I used Zedruu to donate thought lash to my opponent. I choose to not pay the cumulative upkeep cost.

Is this what happens?
Opponent sacrifices Thought Lash because the upkeep is not paid.
Thought lash is put into my graveyard.
"When Thought Lash's cumulative upkeep isn't paid, exile all cards from your library." ability is put onto the stack, controlled by my opponent.
Opponent exiles their library.

"You" refers to an object's controller. For a triggered ability, the player that controlled the thing that triggered when it triggered is the controller of the trigger.



Situation #1
Then, on my upkeep I wait for Zedruu and Primordial Ooze's triggered abilities to be on the stack. I use Zedruu's activated ability, giving my opponent control of Primordial Ooze.

Is this what happens?:
Opponent gains control of Ooze.
I choose not to pay for Ooze ability and take 1 damage from Ooze and Ooze becomes tapped.
I draw 1 card and gain 1 life from Zedruu's triggered ability.

This is accurate.

I play Thought lash while zedruu is in play.

On my upkeep, with thought lash's cumulative upkeep trigger on the stack, I used Zedruu to donate thought lash to my opponent. I choose to not pay the cumulative upkeep cost.

Is this what happens?
Opponent sacrifices Thought Lash because the upkeep is not paid.
Thought lash is put into my graveyard.

You are the one resolving the trigger, so Thought Lash is telling you to sacrifice it - and you can't sacrifice something you don't control.

The "exile your library" trigger, per the oracle wording, is however on the cumulative upkeep not being paid - so that will still trigger.

So thought lash will gain a counter, but stay in play even though the upkeep is not paid?

Yes - normally you wouldn't notice the age counter sticking around since you'd sac it.
