just a noob question to you folks: what happens if my opponent casts a pact of "whatever" and i respond with an online deed activation to destroy hive mind?

Removing the source of the ability doesn't remove the ability itself. No matter what happens to Hive Mind, if they cast Hive Mind, and then a Pact, the trigger will go off.

Welcome to the stupidity that is Hive Mind. If they have the Hive Mind and the Pact in hand, there is absolutely no way in Legacy to stop this combo by destroying the Hive Mind before they give you a Pact copy.

Exactly what Taco said, neither enchantment destruction nor Krosan Grip will stop it.

For your deed to work or something like that to be effective you'd have to have like Ethersworn Canonist so that they couldn't immediately pact after resolving Hive Mind. There's no easy way to deal with it besides VERY narrow hate such as Angel's Grace or Sundial of the Infinite.

Its near impossible to hate against hivemind combo right now. the hate made for it is horrible. You cannot use it in ANY OTHER deck besides hivemind combo. it gets worse...hivemind pact is only half of the deck. there is still emrukhal to deal with.

Wizards better print a better hate card than sundial or eon hub before the ban list adds another card

Instead of trying to look for hate, why not learn to play against it. The top 8 match of SCG Seattle was on camera and that Junk player could have payed for the pact and won, but instead he scooped. It is a very good deck, but it's not invincible, learn to play better then you won't be asking Wizards to print specific hate for just one deck. I could go on and on about the better plays but this thread is not the discussion for it, my thoughts on Hive Mind can be read here: http://www.forums.westcoastlegacy.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=220#p2111

I'm leaving posts up until this point, but please remember that the Rules board is not for general strategy discussion.
