Hi, I just want to know the relevant rulings for these scenario.

Scenario 1: Player A STP's a random Merfolk. Player B Vials in Kira in response to STP. Will the STP be countered or is the targetting already done prior to the creature having said static ability?

Scenario 2: Player A Hymn to Tourach's Player B. In response to Hymn, Player B vials in True Believer, does it make the Hymn fizzle because of Player B's shroud? From what I understand, as Hymn is put onto the stack, you already target it against someone so True Believer's shroud on Player B would not matter. Basically, does the game check whether or not targetting is still legal upon resolution based on shroud? Kinda in the same way, that a Mother of Runes protection would later invalidate a targeted spell of the protected color.

Bonus: What about Gilded Light?

I honestly think that the spell goes through in both cases, and also in the Gilded Light scenario, I just don't know the exact rulings. Or maybe I'm wrong. - I'm wrong. Scenario 2, the hymn doesn't go through, same with Gilded Light. Thanks for the answers.

Scenario 1: I think the targetting has already been done upon casting the swords to plowshares so it would not be countered when Kira is vialed in as the creature did not have the ability to trigger off the swords to plowshares targetting it.

Scenario 2: I think in this situation, the hymn to tourach fizzles as the target of a spell or ability is rechecked upon resolution. Gilded Light would fit in this scenario as well. Forgot to answer that part too...

The difference between the two is that one(scenario one) involves an ability that is triggered upon when a player cast a spell with a target and only at that time. But I could be wrong...

Scenario 1: Kira won't stop the STP. Kira's ability is an triggered ability that triggers upon announcement of a spell or ability. As Kira isn't in play when the spell is announced, it won't stop the Merfolk from getting exiled by Swords to Plowshares.

Scenario 2: True Believer will stop the Hymn. True Believer's ability is static, and makes you an illegal target for Hymn to Tourach. Targets are always rechecked for legality upon resolution (Note that Kira doesn't actually do anything to make a target illegal), and thereby upon resolution of the Hymn, it'll go "Hey, there's a True Believer there" and just not happen.
