So I've been playing with Eight-and-a-Half-Tails in EDH for some time now and there has been something bothering me about it for a while now. What is the color of an activated or triggered abilities on the stack should the permanent that generated the ability's color be changed?

Here's a specific example. I have an Umezawa's Jitte and an Eight-and-a-Half-Tails in play. My opponent plays a Viridian Shaman. The ETB trigger is put on the stack. The question is this: Does giving my Jitte Pro White and turning the Viridian Shaman white save my Jitte?

Thanks in advance,
- Tog

While abilities themselves are colorless, their sources don't need to. That's what protection looks for. Your Jitte can't be the target of abilities from white sources and Viridian Shaman is white, so...

Abilities on the stack have no color - when something wants to know the color of an ability on the stack, it looks at the source of that ability to determine its color.

This would work for stopping things, like the Virdian Shaman. It would not however work for things you can no longer target. Take for example Mogg Fanatic, who is red, and in the grave before you can make him "white".
