I was playtesting a B splashed Solidarity against 4 Horsemen the other day and came across a very interesting circumstance I hope some of you guys can shed light on. Basically, what it came down to was that during his turn, I comboed off in response to his combat phase. He only had a narcomeoba out and I only had a few lands. Long story short, I brain freeze him for 20 copies. We count out each card into his grave until he puts Emrakul into the graveyard. In response to his triggered ability, I extirpate targetting the Emrakul. (This has nothing to do with the split second btw) The way the stack looks, in my mind, is this:

Top of Stack
Extirpate
Emrakul's Triggered Ability (When Emrakul is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles his or her graveyard into his or her library.)
Brain Freeze Copies
Bottom of Stack

I have a couple of questions. 1) Does extirpate resolve fast enough to target Emrakul before he is shuffled back into the library? 2) Even if it is fast enough, will removing Emrakul from the graveyard do anything to keep his triggered ability from triggering?

Thanks in advanced.

Yes.

The ability will still trigger resulting in the rest of his graveyard being shuffled into his library. Then the rest of the stack will resolve.

/sry, must have skipped the part where you already realized split second isn't a factor here.

What happens if you have an Emrakul in your deck and someone gets the Painter's Servant/Grindstone combo off?

Grindstone's ability resolves, putting all your cards into your graveyard. Then, Emrakul's triggered ability is put onto the stack and players can respond to it. Once the ability resolves, your Graveyard is shuffled back into your library. Note, that this happens regardless of Emrakul being extirpated or not. Abilities on the stack resolve independent of their source unless the card says otherwise, e.g. Bridge from Below that requires still being in the graveyard for its ability to create a Zombie on resolution ("intervening if-clause").
