Two fun MWS stories because this seems like the place:
Story 1) Im playing a deck I was working on and I have 1 birds out and a simalacrum. The person plays bog imp. I already know this game is gonna suck but I'm against leaving so I stick with it. Next turn he attacks with bog imp, so I take 1 damage. Then he say's what are you doing, I wanna attack birds of paradise. I explain that he must be new and that I choose whether or not to block. He explains he isn't knew and that he just hasn't gotten use to the MWS interface yet.. Wow.

Story 2) The next player I palyed right after that, he was a real cool guy, then he played some elves. I thought, hey maybe intruder alarm will make a show.. Then he plays Skullclamp. And I say GG I win. He asks why. I point to the big "1.5 ONLY" title of the game.

Ya I'm tired of halfwits. Undermines a good guy on MWS, i've played with him before, we definately need to get a PRIVATE Legacy "The Source" server running... Make things better for the community.

Ok, after playing today, I felt the need to bump this and get back to the topic of MWS scrub encouters:

So I'm playing UR Fish, other guy is playing Sligh. He lays Furnace of Rath. Next turn I attack with 3 1/1s, and he only subtracts 3. I say, it's 6 damage, because Furnace doubles it. So I argue with him for 3 minutes about how a "source" isn't limited to instants and sorceries. When I see that he's not getting it, I link him to this: http://magiccards.info/8e/en/187/
and explain the note that refers to trample damage proves that combat damage is indeed a source that is doubled by furnace... and he says "that site is false". Wow.

Story number 2 is filled with scrub moves by the other player involving Standstill and playing a slightly modified version of extended Tog. Lord, some people just do not know how to use that card, and it can be pretty funny. Second turn I see his Nightscape Familiar, and lay a Cloud of Faeries, followed by a Spiketail Hatchling, deciding to save my Standstill for next turn. However, no need for that, because guess what he plays on his next turn. Standstill, and nothing else. Ok, thanks buddy. I Wasteland his only land and get him to like 5 with 1/1 beats until he decides to sac Standstill himself. I FoW what he plays and next turn I lay 3 more creatures and a Curiosity followed by my Standstill. Also note: he tried to Cunning Wish for Duress, and tried to block my Spiketail Hatchling with his Nightscape Familiar.
He does basically the same thing in another game, except he lays Standstill with nothing in play. 5 turns later he breaks it for a Tog, which I counter. Next turn I lay some more creatures and a Standstill of my own. A few turns after that he breaks my Standstill by playing......... Standstill. Wow. I hope that was his way of conceding.
If this person is a Source member and reading this, please take this as advice rather than an insult. :P Here's a tip: don't play Standstill unless your opponent is in a position where he needs to play a spell soon in order to stop you from winning. This does not include times when said opponent has 3 flyers and a Mishra's Factory in play, and you have nothing but lands.

Aaaaaaanyway, I figured some people might get a kick out of this.

I was testing out a combo deck idea on MWS the other day. Guy I'm playing agianst drops bad sui creatures for the first two turns. Then on my third turn I decide to win. I play some rituals then drop LED. The guy throws a hissy fit about me playing BLACK LOTUS and quits. I track him down and join his next game, I explain that I played a Lion's Eye Diamond and that it is not banned in legacy. He then calls me a cheater and leaves that game as well.

www.magicworkstation.com, go to download click a version, then you have to download the gamepack. It's online magic: the gathering for free. The only bad thing is unskilled players use scrubby decks and you really dont get to test much. :(

Often on in the evening (got to test against Herbig the other night, which was a good experience) and you can look for pohlo16 as well (friend of mine & pohlo here on the Source)...

Early evening it is often possible to get some interesting late night French players, but it would be nice to consistently be able to play people with at least a vague understanding of the stack, phases, what their own fucking cards do (I might have to explain mine....but that's ok...). If they have a clue about the forma, that would be a huge bonus. It is nice to test against random ideas (since that simulates Rounds 1-3 at Philly for those of us without byes) but it was very nice to test against Solidarity played correctly. Pohlo16 (my usual tet partner) also does this very well, but A) we don't always get to play B) we don't have time to test every matchup as often we like C) we know each other well enough that we sometimes play each other as much as the decks.

Like Djinn said, create a TheSource servers could be great. We are a relatively narrow community, and so we can meet each others and play against each others. Moreover, i wouldn't be "play random player", and so we could ask to play we people we want to, for theire experience in certain matchup, or because we want to know better someone.

For this, a MWS server, and a IRC server would be very good.
Still, a friend of mine can help me create one, with a dedicated server (already have a RO server at home in addition to a IRC server, so i guess one more IRC server won't be a problem).

If people are interested, we really can create this, with mod and all (mod would be mod of TheSource for sure).

1) ALWAYS advertise our Legacy games on MWSPlay with "TheSource"
2) Before going to MWSPlay, try pavouk.square.cz. It's a small MWSPlay server which is basically only used for private games (O-Gaming tournaments, mostly), and we could adopt it for less random playtesting. You could open up a game there saying "TheSource - playtest Legacy" and just leave it up waiting for a Sourcer to drop by.

It's relatively hard to find good player in order to really master the deck i play, and it is even more difficult to find player that want to do more than one game in order to play test deck or else.

Hi there,

I already posted stating the same point, but it was sort of 1 year ago. I just don't see the problem in joining irc at the same time you join msn/aim/skype and so on and so forth. Probably the best network is irc.solidirc.com for obvious reasons: it is the server that hosts www.magic-league.com . Even if most people don't like to play in legacy minis/trials hosted there (I actually doubt so), it is the network with more MTGers around (yes, way more than efnet). For that purpose, and as I am a very well-known player in magic-league, I found a channel named #mtgthesource in that network. Feel free to join it (I'll give highest access to moderators here) and discuss, if not just to idle and check if we can get something nice going on.

Hi I plan on downloading MWS. I don't want to go on and be that n00b who has no idea how to work MWS and end up wasting someone's time. I have read the banging your head on the wall from MWS thread and don't want to ever see my name on there.

I was wondering what you guys recommend I do to learn MWS without just going on and pissing people off with my n00bness? Are there any good tutorials someone could recommend?

My goal is to eventually be competent enough to play test against various Legacy decks that I don't get to see often in my meta.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm looking to play with someone a little patient as I haven't played in MWS in many years, so I'm very rusty and a little slow. Right now I've only got standard Zoo so that I can get used to the mechanics of MWS easily. Zoo is pretty straight forward.
