I've been pretty into the board game community for a little while now, and I've noticed that numerous old TCG's are being revamped as LCG's - Living Card Games. Basically, in a living card game entire sets are released as one product - you buy the product for $40ish dollars and you have playsets of every card in the set. Expansions still evolve the game, but without the trading element.
I've been kind of burned out on the constant trading and card searching when playing MtG. I hate going to tournaments not having the cards I want to play with.
Basically, my question is: would you still play MtG if it were revamped as an LCG? How important is the trading element of the game to you?

I completely stop everything going at Magic. Where is the fun in buying a box of everything. For me that's what Magic is all about every collection looks different. That's fun

I have the opposite feeling of the guy above. I love the game of magic but hate the outrageous prices generated by it being a CCG.

If not for the reprint policy, I might be interested in Magic as an LCG. If I could pay like $500-$600 to get a copy of every card ever (so $2000-$2500/playset) then I might even get back in. But with the reprint policy, if they did it going forward, all it would do is allow me to play Standard, and unless they make sweeping changes in the R&D department, contemporary Magic is going to continue to suck ass.

It doesn't suck ass at all. You just can't afford to have everthing you want. Get a 2nd or 1st? Job

I actually own a merfolk and zoo so i have a decent collection but there is something inherently ridiculous about 150 cards being worth more than 3 video game systems and like 30 games. Basically I love the game so i am willing to suffer through the prices but i would like it far better if it had always been set up in an LCG stlye. And its not just the price of duals that is silly, even 10 for a card is kinda pricy.

I have two jobs, thanks. And contemporary Magic sucks a lot of ass compared to 8-12 years ago. Design was a lot better back then.

Seconded, this upcoming set looks and is starting to feel a like Homelands bred with Kamigawa block. Backed by Mirrodin 2.0 and soon to be Ravnica 2.0, I'm not thrilled with the prospect of old ideas rehashed with poor execution.
I'm actually enjoying playing Ascension much more than Magic these days.

Speaking of rehashed ideas, didnt Zendikar feel like Onslaught? (Fetchlands, that 'tribal' theme, destroyer of the world at the 3rd set [Eldrazi-Karona])

This.
Also, Magic as an LCG would eliminate the option of limited, and playing CCG limited is honestly my favorite way to game. (I actually like Legend of the Five Rings limited even better, but that's an argument for another time.)
For argument's sake, I like Dominion and love Nightfall; LCGs have a place in the world. CCGs also do though. No game can or should cater to everybody; games are different for a reason.

I think Munchkin falls under LCG. It is a ridiculous amount of fun, so much politicking and back stabbing. Try it.
