Had a legacy tournament this past weekend. It's a pretty casual environment, sanctioned but very lax, we are all friends basically. 2 Pack buy-in, 4 rounds of swiss, no cut to top 8 due to there being like a dozen people. It started at noon, I went to sleep about 4 am that morning. Why do I always do that to myself? I would've been on time, but they had constructions on one street on the way there. No problem, take the next street up right? Nope, college move-ins. The only other way was PACKED from the rest of the city having to take that route. Sooo frustrating. Good thing they're pretty poor about starting on time. Played Quinn, as it was the only Legacy deck I could realistically build(no duals, force, goyf, confidant etc).

Quinn, the Eskimo by The Infamous Bear Assassin(with tweaks from scrubby)

Main deck:

18 Snow Covered Plains
4 Scrying Sheets
4 Argivian Find
4 Enlightened Tutor
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Orim's Chant
2 Abeyance
2 Wrath of God
2 Grindstone
2 Painter's Servant
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Isochron Scepter
3 Oblivion Ring
2 Ghostly Prison
1 Day of Justice
1 Story Circle
1 Sacred Mesa
1 Humility
1 Seal of Cleansing

SB (A freaking pile, I know. Not finished/optimal by a long shot):

2 Leyline of Sanctity(didn't see any burn or heavy discard, wasn't a factor)
1 Pulse of the Fields(trading for a few more, never got to use it)
1 Lightmine Field(if I was boarding out Mesa)
2 Wing Shards (that old janx spirit)
1 Gerrard's Wisdom(will be pulse)
1 Pithing Needle
1 Relic of Progenitus(should be more)
1 Grand Abolisher(was a hero, 2 more on the way, he was a bomb if he resolved)
1 MASTICORE(my secret tech, see below)
1 White Sun's Zenith(another win condition if I couldn't grind someone out,no planeswalkers. Never saw emakrul or Progenitus so it never got sided in. Have a better option OTW)
1 Island Sanctuary(was supposed to be tech vs anything but merfolk/flying dudes, but is coming out, probably for an Aura of Silence or another G. prison)
1 Seal of Cleansing
1 Ghosly Prison

Individual card notes:

Argivian Find was such a hero, it's not technically card advantage but I didn't have to freak out if something important got countered/destroyed. 4 regrowths for half my deck? Yes please. I ran over 60 cards just so I could run four. Saved me many times.

Wing Shards: Saved me several times, many times other decks rely on a creature they think is untouchable vs me, so they attack alone with Emakrul or whatever. It was a lot of fun Abeyancing someone during their upkeep, dude thinks "well, I can still attack"; I spread my wings, and got several two-for-ones.

MASTICORE: I included him for the nostalgia factor. With scrying sheets/top his drawback doesn't hurt me once I have a decent manabase, colorless removal is some good, he's tutorable/Argivian Findable, regenerates from artifact hate, etc. Never got to use him though as I never boarded out humility. A fun choice, wouldn't use it at an Open or anything.

My notes were pretty sparse, mostly only had life totals with the source, some games I couldn't be bothered to write everything down. From mostly memory:

Round 1 VS Ichorid Dredge

Game 1: Slow start, he drops a gemstone, starts dredging, hits me with Ichorid a few times before I get rid of it and grind him out. His deck is not optimal, so I don't feel too amazing about the win.

Game 2: He has to mulligan to something like 3 or 4 cards, he's pissed for obvious reasons; almost wouldn't let me cut his deck on one of the later mulls, but I sort of gave him a look and insisted. He knows my deck now, and Cabals me for Grindstone. I had painter but not grindstone, I end up tutoring EOT and grinding him out. Hate winning this way, but I'll take it.

Round 2 vs some Stifle/Torpor/Dreadnaught thing.

G1: He does his silly tricks, plow beats Naught though, as I don't care about his life total. I didn't want to be a dick about his misunderstanding of Torpor Orb and Servant, so I remember chumping a 'Naught with servant and argivian finding it back til I could deal with it(AF such beatings). Wish I would've cared more and proved to him online that "as" and "when" are two different things. I believe I had ScepterChant out after a bit; had to have several other people confirm that I can pay the kicker. I remember him straight up telling me he didn't have a counter. I thought he was trying to trick me, but no, he really didn't. He needs more Missteps and Forces, and to not TELL ME he has no counter.

G2: Same deal, he spell pierces a combo piece, I AF it back. Plow a dreadnaught or two, get rid of THREE orbs via O. ring, tutoring for seal and finding it in the Argivian fashion. Grind him out.

Round 3 vs Janky Reanimator with white chancellor, some dragon that does damage when it attacks or something, and SPIRIT OF THE NIGHT(I cheered a little bit when I saw it, so old school) Nice dude. Old timer, just got back in like me.

Game one: He hits me with the white chancellor guy twice before I remove it and grind him out. Pretty quick.

Game two: This game was proof positive I need more shuffle effects. Had a top out, held a painter's servant, did not see a tutor or a grindstone even though I was halfway through my deck. Sorin doesn't do much dmg due to story circle, but he can still gain the life and was able to word of command me several times. About Sorin: he took my turn, I had plow on a stick active and a servant out. Obv. the correct play is to plow the servant, and some dude(who I'd play next round) said something about doing that, I told him "could you shut up?" (Guy didn't hear him. Biggest thing he did was let my mesa die, which couldn't race his 30 some life from plows) Due to lack of tutors/W.C. I take my only loss of the day. Some bad.

Game three: I deal with everything he reanimates, Relic of Progenitus a few things, grind him out. Nothing special.

Round 4 against some janky red green thing(same guy who was coaching)

Game 1: Poor start, he beats me to 8 with random creatures until I mise a servant topdeck and grind him out.

Game 2: I get the nuts draw(tutor, grindstone, top, chan plains and something else IIRC) and grind him out like 3rd turn, not afraid of removal. He's pissed, but it was really cathartic to beat the guy who was trying to coach earlier. We smoke a cigarette afterwards and chat a bit so I could smooth things out(I am always a gracious winner, I hate bad attitudes, but wanted to be the bigger man).

I collect my packs of M12, didn't get anything too cool 'cept for Garruk. The environment obviously isn't full of tier 1 decks, about half the dudes had "real decks" and the rest were pretty janky. Pretty sure I wouldn't have even top 16'd at a big event. Very relaxed scene, several people playing without sleeves, noone cares though as cheating would be noticed pretty quickly. Small town tourneys are like that. Still, felt good to win in my second tourney since starting back up.

Props: The people for the most part, almost everyone is very cool and friendly. TIBA for letting me revisit my Parfait days and giving me a new pet deck :) Myself(conceited I know) for making far fewer mistakes than I did my first tourney back.

Slops: Me for not pushing the torpor orb thing. At a real event, I would've. The city for closing TWO major routes to the store!. The guy who coached. Everyone buying m12 for the pack buy-in fee, would've much rather had New Phyrexia packs.

Thanks for reading.
