Just thought it would be nice if we had a topic that allowed you to introduce yourself to the other community members.

I'm Michael Glow, from Syracuse transplanted in Oswego for college. I'm one of the founders of Team Evolution that team you love to hate. I've been playing tournaments since Chaos Orb was legal. I had a 1844 Vintage rating, but I tanked 30 points of that last tournament and haven't played since :). I mostly play T1 and T1.5. I'm also your admin so ph34r :D

Frogboy eh...

Ok, I'm Jordan from Portland, OR and uh... play T2 generally... Although I do play any format but mainly focus on what the big tournaments are playing.

When I play Magic, I play for the intellectual competition and have the famous saying of; "For the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat." in the back of my mind. I generally favor playing blue, but I don't let that blind me if something else is better. Favorite card is Tinker, and my favorite deck is 1.X Tinker as well.

So anyways, hi.

Well, I'm new n' stuff so figured I should post here.

Name is Jason Hargreaves, I'm from Aurora CO, twenty four years old, etc, etc.... I play down at Attactix fairly frequently and heard about this board from someone there, though I don't know his SN on here. Hmm...lesse, started playing magic during dark/revised. I played competative T1 for quite sometime in KC up until I quit playing in 98. Started up again a few months ago and am just now getting back into the tournament scene. Other than that not much to say.

Anyway, cya around.

Oh, I'm also the scrub deck #1 mentioned in Motch Watch for 2k3 states.

hi people. name's tim, a kiwi born in asia studying in his third year of an arts degree in australia. i'm also new at themanadrain, and was surprised when i was invited because no one knows me there. ;P thanks for the invitation.

i started playing during iceage, then quit around mirage because everyone else at the school did. picked it up again with odyssey, and here i am now. i'm slowly getting p9 cards to play t1, so help me out if you have any ;P (just not now. i'm quite broke after buying an alpha lotus recently)

well... i think that's more than what people want to hear about me, so yeah.

p.s. i stole your quote drg', i hope you don't mind ;P
p.p.s. diablos, i have an asian girlfriend, does that make me > you? although my girlfriend gets all sorts of looks when i take her to the local gameshop... ;/

It was good one so :) feel free

Uhh... duno why I put that there but oh well. So, I've been playing since Ice Age, the influence of my big brother. I prefer 1.5 over T1 because I don't own all the power. (Though Sapphire, Lotus, and Recall could pretty much be known as "The" power) I was a lesbian at one point in my life, and yes, my girlfriend was asian. My deck of choice is B/G Sui. I'm Andrew. I'm from Englewood, CO and I'm 15. I've been playing since Nemesis came out. I play mostly type 2, but my favorite format is T1 (if only there were more T1 tournaments around here, grrrr!).

I also play at Attactix, almost every week, but I don't think I know you, Jason.

I also have the misfortune of knowing Jeff (aka. GreenMycon).

/me is Jeff, I own this site, litterally. I've been playing for 8 years on and off (4th edition rotation?) I hail from Englewood of the Colorado like Sir natals. I'm the only person in a good 5 mile radius with any power, and one of maybe 2 at my local card shop with any. Type 1 tournaments are more rare than Mew, the 150th Pokemon from the Original Gameboy game.

I undoutedly piss everyone off and if I haven't pissed you off yet, you just haven't known me long enough. Ummmmm I said some more stuff in the Moderator forum I believe... I guess I'll list some favourite or something.

Favourite Movie: Pulp Fiction
Favourite Movie Dialogue: A Clockwork Orange
Favourite Song: Faster than the Speed of Life
Favourite Color: Black
Favourite Deck of Current: Stax
Favourite Format: T1
Favourite smiley: ;)
Least Favourite Smiley: ~_~
Most Offensive Phrase: Fuckpuppet
Most Offensive Movie: A Clockwork Orange
Favourite multiplayer format: Emperors with Stax
Favoruite Scrub to beat at local cardship: Alex H? (russian fuck)
Favourite Pro to Barn: Matthew Motchkavitz III
Favourite IRC Room to Idle in: #mtgwacky
Favourite IRC Room to spam: #apprentice
Best Trade Ever: No idea, I've done quite a few good ones. Maybe when I traded Phage and Visara for 2 Mintalicious Exalted Angels. Think that was a trade where I had the greatest percent profit, not the greatest increase in cash.
Favourite Deck to spam: ICZ

I'm August. I'm 19. I'm in Oregon. I'm male. I dunno how tall I am or anything but I'm probably like 6'. I have long hair.

I play guitar and do vocals but mostly play bass. I've been working pretty hard on getting better bass technique; right now I can pick 32nd notes at 240, slap 16ths at about 260, and I'm working on getting a few more techniques functional. I'm in a death metal band. We're getting ready to record something releasable and start doing shows.

I started playing about when Alliances was released. I've played off and on but lately I've been trying within reason to get competitive. My favorite deck to play used to be Erhnamgeddon, because it's badass, and Ernie and Juzam are still fucking cool. (Juzam is the coolest card ever.) But my pet deck for the longest time has been the Necro archetype. I generally play whatever is most comparable to the power of Necro, but basically just pick whatever's most tournament viable (in addition to whatever random casual stuff I like).

I'm going to college.

Hannibal Lecter is awesome.

I've been listening to Carl Orff, Dissection, Sepultura, Skinless, The Berzerker and for some reason I've been listening to Mortician more than usual. My favorites still include Pink Floyd and 20th century classical composers like Stockhausen in addition to Gorguts, Decapitated and Blind Guardian.

Setnakt is a name originating (apparently) from an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh's, meaning "Set is Mighty" (Set being the deity). "Khenemetapophis" is a compound word (yeah, ancient Egyptian compound words are odd sometimes), being made of "Khenemet-", a prefix for "He Who Is At One With," and "Apophis," another Egyptian deity. It has religious significance for me in that it represents a concept of being comfortable with artistic expression and discipline through introspection. I consider myself an atheistic/agnostic Setian (some people have debated with me about the meaning of being an atheist, but I think by mentioning them both I get my point across clearly enough for all practical purposes), and my philosophical perspective is more or less rooted in nihilism but from what I've seen it would not suit the purposes of definition to compare myself to a nihilist. All of this is up for debate however but people tell me that this sort of discussion confuses the fuck out of everyone so I think I may have explained enough for now.

HI,

I'm Michael Teachout, I'm 18, most know me as Mr.T, and a few as Roundeye (Thanks Nick). I live in a little town of Bridgeport, NY, and play in Syracuse. Currently go to SUNY Morrisville, where I'm studying Design & Drafting. I'm a race car driver, I race Sportsman Dirt Modifieds, and will be racing at Fulton this summer.

I've been playing since 1996, started playing in tournaments in 1999. I'm part of Team Evolution. Favorite decks are Sligh/Burn and Oath. Although I now decided to play control. I'm known at Syracuse for taking multiple decks, and cramming them into one. Deck I'm most known for is Opium, a mix between Oath, Trix, and Deed.Deq. Deck I have been asked to cram together, TurboRecSurOath-a-trix-atogbattleofwits, or something like that, more or less a joke. Don't have much more to say.

Why not?

My name is Allan Race & I'm older than dirt and twice as tired... Been playing since just AFTER all the good/broken old cards came out (derf). Was a horrible scrub for a long time, now I suck at a slightly higher level.... Was the Event Coordinator at THE gamestore in Syracuse for a while (imagine having to deal with these yahoos every couple of days & not being able to play...) but have since gotten a real job & transplanted to Woosta, Mass. I miss (most of) the players, especially our Monday night multiplayer group.

I design & play rogue decks as often as possible (ROGUE, Colin, not red....or rouge, as you prefer) which leads to hideous fluctuations in all my ratings....but none in my integrity.

Reading (S/F & fantasy mostly), rugby (former college coach & CIII certified referee) and my kids take up all of the rest of my time & money & energy.

Jason, 16. Living in Englewood, CO, a few streets down from Jeff/Greenmycon, and Andrew/Natals. I play T2 every once in a while over at local game store Attactix, but I usually end up tearing apart decks to build really bad versions of better decks later. Occaisonally I'll play a draft, or play ONBC Dragons on MODO. That and keeping track of random tech is about as far as my Magic experience goes. I don't aspire for anything more than having fun, yo. I have a disturbingly large knowledge pertaining to videogame arcana, but since most of the people hanging out here probably couldn't care less, it's a moot point.

In an effort to make this interesting
I will try my hand in poetics- these antics
Will say of my play since Revised,
And my history of oft ons and offs-
And hence the years that have comprised
Of Fallen Empires to Tempest-
From whence I've let the play rest,
To return till the sagas of Urza's demise
And rise- Then to absence again I went-
Since then the last 2 months have set
A new desire to play with fire.

Red is my color, though blue may be better-
Red is much cheaper, for this Ankh sligh player
Of one and twenty years- is there a greater
Joy than to burn, or die by fire? For me, 'tis mirth
To see my opponents burned to the girth-

Recently I've opted to play unfettered
And found many new decks on TheManadrain
That I've tried and brought into Maryland-
This has set a many of teeth a'grating
As I lay the smack down- the beatings.
We continue to get better
As we incorportate more numbers
Of decks that prove as winners
From these sites of innovative players.

Other misc. info- here goes;
My school is at Colorado
In an institution named USAFA,
Whose boxing team I'mma parta-
And my hobbies include art- to start-
And books and books, from classics
To fantasy, to horror- and more-
Movies and Magic, can life get
Any better? Maybe, but I bet
That life is much better absent regret.

Since this thread still seems to be fairly active, i guess I'll chime in.

My name is Sebastian, and I'm originally from Syracuse, NY. About a year and a half ago I joined the Air Force, and I'm now stationed at Travis Air Force Base in CA. I've been playing for almost nine years, and my first love will always be 1.5. Right now I play regularly in Pleasanton, CA thanks to Michael Potter (who, apparently, no longer plays in Pleasanton, CA). My rating has drifted into the low 1800's occassionaly, but my love of building and playing rogue decks keeps it somewhere in the 1700's. I think Mike Glow is a cocky asshole and I despise his terrible spelling, but I've never seen him play a bad deck and can't help but respect him as a player. I have kept poor Mr. T out of numerous top 8's, and I'll bet he was glad to see me go (although these days he'd likely whoop my butt).

In closing I'd like to throw out a bit of 1.5 minutae. Though most would probably deny it, the entire 1.5 community owes much of the DTB list to Brian Horton. "Big Brian", as we refered to him, taught me a lot of what I know about magic and was the first guy in Syracuse to play decks like Rec/Sur, Illusions/Donate, and Trenches/Humility. They've come a long way since his "fun" builds, but I thought some of you might like to know where those decks came from. (I'll admit he wasn't the creator of those decks, but he was the first to port them to 1.5 and play them in Syracuse)

Wow, this has become a long post. Hi...nice to meet everybody...I'll shut up now......::goes and rocks silently in a corner wearing sign that reads "Don't bother the crazy person"::

Hello im Nick from Albany. I've met most of you guys at cuse from either drivin out for pre release or at the schenectady tournament. Im an environmental science major and have been playing magic since i was in middle school (like 9 years or something). Im playing stax and hope to show at the syracuse tourney on the 6th, if i can get off work. im a security guard which means i get payed to play magic online and read the crazyness of team evo saying they are the best 1.5 out there. We shall see when team albany goes on the road to spank ya'll AGAIN. Now that im done talkin smack, some random thoughts.

Ninja Strike is fun to watch
Peter is right about lava dart, it is good
Sligh is stronger than you all think.
Mana Drain is not the end all be all of magic, jeez they can only play four after all (besides the fact that it is easily disruptible, unlike force of will.)

Yo.

I'm Andrew Ross.... I'm 14 and I'm in Washington, DC. I play Fish-esque stuff, and if anyone here plays on Magic-League, I'm Jenneke there.

Currently I'm hiding in my uncle's cellar because I burned down a Wendy's, killed 17 people, and the cops are after me. I don't want to go to jail and be sexually harassed by Pat Chapin in the showers every morning :(

I also like playing video games, they're super tech.

I've been playing for 9+ years and started playing in the bay area. p.s. all the people in pleasanton, do you guys play at KK's? I love coming up with sideboard tech..after playing since dark, i better know a thing or two about what to sideboard, right?

My name is Brian McLaughlin, and I am from Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Just some random small ass town in the middle of nowhere. Started playing around Planeshift. I play all sorts of decks that suit my interests at the time. I dont think I have seen so many Oregonians in one place, must be plotting some evil deforestation schemes... Anyways, nice boards.

Hey my name is Keenan and I'm from Syracuse. I'm 15 and a freshman in highschool. This is my first post and its nice to see so many people from Syracuse post. I have no team and no idea what my rating is and i don't really care. I'm kinda bad at magic due to the fact that I don't have a lot of money to spend on it. I play at Altered States and mainly do booster drafts. I want to get back into 1.5 a little more and hopefully post a little to.

Welcome to the board.

The best way for budget players to get cards is through trading and focusing on 1 or 2 decks that you like. The best budget deck is gobvantage or food chain goblin depending on your budget. You can trade for most of the pieces fairly easily. I have extra's of most of it, and you can come talk to me about it this weekend. I'll be one with the huge brown binder and another 2 binder with Juzam and Lotus on them.

Hi my name is edward McGee and I'm from Phoenix AZ. I've been playing magic stedily from Fallen Empires up.(talk about a bad time to invest in a new game.) I mostly play at my local store that runs 1.5, type 2, and draft. Our 1.5 was just scrubby decks until I saw ATS at brainburst and built it. I won the next tourny with 8 straight concessions and since then were getting a much better class of decks. Still no players with powered decks tho.

My name is George, I'm 17 from Texas. I started playing M: TG during Visions/Weatherlight. I play both Type 1 and 1.5.

For Type 1, I play Spoils-Mask, Gay/R, and Bloody Sui.

For Type 1.5, I play Goblin Sligh and Suicide Black.

That is all.

Hey I'm Bret from Portland OR. Or, for all you Pleasanton players, The bastard from out of town that only came to your tourny 2 weeks in a row (in september) and slaughtered you all with Phage from out of nowhere to ruin your whole tournament(s). Hahahahahahahaha! (just kidding)

I played from Ice Age to Alliances as a fun casual player. I started back up playing right after Planeshift and got into the tourny scene while playing IN/OD Fires of Yavimaya in Magic Online Beta testing. Been into tournies ever since. Was horribly scrubby for a long time playing T2 until I came up against a very high consentration of net-deckers who were really good players. I then net-decked building Carlos Ramaona's U/B Tog deck and played shitloads of mirros for months in order to get good. I believe I did get good after that though.

I started to get into Extended then (especially Donate/Lich, Trix and Oath) for a long time. I played Slide in T2 for a while after the rotation and kicked the shit out of lots of people with my crazy rouge build. When Extended rotated I pretty much really got into 1.5 and started to admire T1 but I didn't have power or tournies so I didn't play it. Then last June I loaned my cards to a friend for a few days and he had them stolen while waiting for a train. (Lost $3000 there)

From then on I could only afford to play in one format and OD block rotated out of T2 then (which sucked but was inevetable) so I build FEB. Controllish survival with rootwalla's was my baby right before the cards were stolen so FEB was a natural choice. I won 5 1.5 tournies in a row then (including the ones in Pleasenton) so 1.5 was my format from then on.

I moniter other formats but pretty much stick with 1.5 now.

I'm 21, don't have much money, working full time, getting back into college, and devote every saturday and somtimes friday to magic. I hope you enjoyed learning something about me:p

EDIT: Good job with the bold font on the cursing, and not even spelling the word correctly :p.

Hello my name is Paul Thompson and I have played magic since summer of 1999.

I really haven't quit playing for very long as it is difficult to get off of the cardboard crack.

I've owned a couple of sets of Power nine but had to sell them both to pay for moving expenses, as well no one here plays type one. My favorite was probably my first Black Lotus I bought. Beta signed by garfield with a large crease down the middle for $220. Oh those were the days.

I play Type 1.5 (wMUD, Dragon!, Masknaught) Extended (Tog, Rock, whatever is good) Type 2 (R/W Control, G/W Control, Goblin Bidding, Affinity) Mirrodin block (R/G Artifact hate)

My collection is pretty extensive I own two-three playsets of all the blue duals, and one-two playsets of the rest. 6 Mana Drains, 6 Bazaar of Baghdad, 2 Beta Bezserk, 4 Mishra's Workshop, 5 Illusonary Mask. Those are the biggies I guess my extended Tog deck is all foil and my wMUD deck is all foil.

I'm also a level one judge (trying to get to level 2) I judged at GP Oakland, GP Anahiem, NW Regionals 2002, lots of PTQ's and prereleases etc.

I usually dominate at the local portland oregon/vancuver washington 1.5 events because my cards are just plain better than theirs (LOL) oh well. I hold my own in type 2 and extended but i'm only hovering around 1800 can't seem to stay above it for long. I play alot with 1900-2000 rated players, guys who have been on the PT or are still on the PT.

My one real weakness is limited and sealed deck, but I'm not completely horrible at that.

Anyways everyone should come and play at 1.5 Alternate Universe on Saturdays just so I can get some competiton. :D

About me, I have been playing magic since revised but didn't start tournament magic until recently I play all formats playing in PTQS etc etc.... I greatly enjoy vintage and am almost fully powered, owning also some random trash like drains and bazaars :;): me and my friends have been trying to get vintage some actual play time in Washington and looks like we are finally going to get it rolling.

anyone interested in meeting me for MWS/appr matches can email me.

03-17-2004, 02:25 PM
Well, I've been semi-participating on these boards for sometime now so I might as well chime in here.

I'm Jason, 29 years old, reside in the Syracuse, NY area, and currently work as a graphic/web designer for a small company just outside of downtown. I started playing around the release of Revised/Dark and stopped around Homelands when almost all the people I played with left college. After an long hiatus, being extremely bored coupled with the fact that the girlfriend was away finishing her Masters for teaching this past summer, I found my old collection in the closet and decided to check around and see what the game has been up to since I've been gone. Man, did I miss a lot. I attended a couple of the tuesday 1.5 tournies with an old G/W deck that I had still. I lost. Every match. It was, however, still enough to get me hooked back into the game and I am slowly getting up to speed on the current meta. Tenniebopper (I think it's him) will remember me as the guy who's Phyrexian Negator he hit with a Flametongue Kavu's Comes into Play effect (actually everyone at the tournament heard when he did it, "I JUST FLAMETONGUE KAVU'D A PHYREXIAN NEGATOR!")

Other random facts about me:
- I race my car. I don't do that illegal Fast-n-Furious street racing crap. I race in sanctioned SCCA (http://www.scca.org) events. There's no better rush aside from jumping out of a plane.

- I play guitar (and to a lesser extent bass, drums and keyboards). Have been playing for more than 15 years. Currently contemplating starting a band to do original stuff.

- I am probably the cleanest-cut person you'll find that is a huge Hardcore/Metal/Death Metal fan.

- I use Macs more than I use PCs

Heh, sorry 'bout that. If it makes you feel any better, I always yell out when I pull stupid plays like that. Hell, I did it to Dirty this past sunday too.

Kavu'ing a Negator is probably more fun that Misdirecting a fireblast back to a pup. :D

I don't think I ever introduced myself! Not that I'd really need too, but I will a little:
My real name is Kevin Garvey, I live in Baldwinsville, NY, just outside of syracuse. I enjoy skiing and basketball, and whatever other competitive sport you can think up (including arguing with teeniebopper, that has become a hobby for me :D ). Computer games are fun too! I am 22 years old, and I work for a division of the NYS Dept of Health in Syracuse (at least for now). I went to college at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, quite possibly the coldest place on earth. I enjoy making fun decks (thats what the game is all about) and I hate netdecking, because I feel that I can play my own deck much better than someone elses, because I know why each card is there. That said, I am Garv, and you will all fear my rancored Kitty!

What's going on everyone? My names Mike Keller...otherwise known around the Altered States crew as "Hollywood", basically because of my major at college and my liking of film. I've been playing Magic since Alpha...of course then it wasn't even called that it was just "Magic". I am probably what you would call the epitomy of rogue player, because I refuse to optimize my deck building strategy with others...which completely defeats the purpose of my involvment on the site hehe. I generally make my own decks...and more often than not win with them :) My AIM screen name is MigalangeloloX....so if you wanna talk drop me a line!
I'm from North Syracuse, NY.

ive been playing magic forever, around when revised came out. Ive won 7 ptqs, played in 20+ pro tours with some high finishes. I was ranked #1 in the world in limited at one time. Im a level 1 judge. I dont really take magic serious anymore but love the game and the people. ( well most of them =D) I dont really have much time to play these days(with work and a gf) but ill randomly show up to a tourney every now and then. I know most the syracuse people on the board and actually watched most of them grow up heh.

You have watched some of us grow up. I must've been like 12 when I started playing.

Heh, I remember one time I was at amrod's and somebody was like "Joe Weber is in this month's Inquest." And I was like "Who's that?" And they showed me. You were like the 12th ranked player in the world or something like that, and you were there that day. I decided not to play in that tourney.

And then a couple of years ago I tried to disenchant a standstill you played against me.

/end pointless rambling and reminiscing.

Hey all, I guess I ought to put a little something in here about myself just for the record.

My name is Alix and I'm currently 18. Just another guy who spends too much time playing with cards, really.

I live in Woodbridge, VA, just outside of D.C. This area has been blessed with a fairly strong 1.5 scene, mostly due to 2 shops that hold weekly tournies with $2 entry. The Saturday tournies at The Lucky Frog usually draw between 20 and 30 people, so I'm happy. The meta has been changing since I started playing seriously back when Onslaught came out, and I think it's becoming fairly developed, though there is a considerable dearth of power cards other than Mana Drains.

I say the area is blessed because I think it is quite clear that T1.5 is the best format in Magic. It has the largest cardpool, which allows for the greatest variety and overall power level (excluding T1), but lacks the broken cards that make T1 so unpredictable. Don't get me wrong; brokeness is fun, but it gets old and doesn't make for the healthiest environment. T2 and Limited aren't without their charms, either, but they really don't come close to 1.5 in my eyes. Extended used to be cool, like 1.5, but then they rotated (read: commercialized) it and it's not as great anymore. Vintage Restricted 4L! Or should it be called "Old School"? :D

I'm Brian from Waterloo, NY. I'm 18 years old and I started playing around Invasion. I have played mostly Type 1 since then occasionally playing random other formats. I have a bad habbit of quitting magic every few months when I get good cards(like a fully powered T1 deck). I sell everything then start back up a few months later only to find out how much the cards I sold went up in value.

I recently purchased a collection with a Lotus and Emerald in it but T1 is almost dead where I play so the other former T1 players are getting into T1.5. I'm working on Gay/r and when I get Drains I'll build Urw Landstill.

Things you should know about me:
I love music and I play guitar.
I love trading.
I collect Mountain Yetis.(I have 100ish I think)
I go to tournaments a lot of the time just to trade even if I have a deck to play. (don't ask)
I play Diablo II when I go on a break from magic (aka quit for 3 months) until I get godly, quit, and go back to magic.
I'm going to RIT to study Computer Engineering in the fall.

07-06-2004, 01:46 AM
Man Magic has changed so much. I remember once I went to the Media Play in Syracuse around the time Fallen Empires came out. The store had three boxes of cards on display: one Fallen, one Legends, one Antiquities. I wanted to buy a box or two, so being the most intelligent, knowledgable person in the world, I bought two boxes of Fallen Empires rather than the other two sets! :)

Which, by the way, the Antiquities packs were $1.69 if I remember correctly.

I'm still pissed about that. Ah well. I remember that warm feeling I got when I saw that Deep Spawn for the first time. Then I remember the even warmer feeling of tossing it out the window of my mom's car. :) Damn me.

The Infamous Bear Assasin was born in a thunderstorm high in the Appalachian mountains, the child of a union between a bear and a pirate. He stands a catastrophic eight feet in height, with an eyepatch, three arms, and eyes of blazing flame. When he loses a game of Magic, which he never does, his opponents burst into flames, and when he doesn't like the judges at an event, he makes them explode, in his mercy. Some say that he may be slain by no man.

Bob Hannock, Massena New York, 17 gonna be a Senior in September. Closest tournaments are in Norwood New York which really is the middle of nowhere. I've been playing since just after Urza's Legacy came out, just about the time when Morphlings were $6 each (anyone else remember that time?). A few people have started considering me the best player in my town although out of 15 or so people that's not too difficult i guess. If I'm not playing Magic I'm prolly reading about it, listening to music (punk forever bitches) or with my awesome girlfriend of 2 years.

Hey Everyone! I just realized I haven't properly introduced myself.

I'm Tim Parrotte, some of you might remember me from my infrequent visits to various Altered States tournies. I was usually the guy playing some version of 10-Land Stompy, or more recently, Parfait. Yes, I usually did poorly. :p

I watch the 1.5 metagame a lot, but I haven't had much chance to either play or playtest in a while. I've played some limited, but haven't touched 1.5 for months.

I go to school at SUNY Geneseo, which explains why I don't show up at Altered much. I am studying Anthropology there, and am heavily involved with the Geneseo Area Gaming Group (GAGG). If anyone is interested in weekly $10 booster drafts on Geneseo campus, drop me a PM.

Hi. My name is Don, and I play at Alternate Universe with Pault, linkXwing, frogboy, setnakt, wertyacid, and runesword. I played casually back in the days of ice age. Got my first really competitive deck back in oddessy block when a friend traded me the stuff for U/G Madness. I played that deck at AU when it rotated out of type 2. In those days it was the exact type 2 build with yavimaya coasts.
This was back before pault and LinkXwing. Steven (runesword?) and I would have really intense Madness v. Shadow matches. At one point a preconstructed deck won the weekly tournament. Then Pault showed up, crushed the snot out of everyone, and people had to start playing good decks. I had to find tropical islands, intuitions, force of will and stuff. AU got competitive. Decks evolved. I have won a couple of tournaments at AU using Madness, sometimes riding the mistakes of opponents, sometimes just winning. Madness can be broken.
I finally got around to updating madness, built zilla stompy, found batcave, and started reading the source. I have been here for a few months, but never saw this thread. So, vitals:
Age: 17, going into senior year
Location: suburbs of Portland, Oregon
Decks: U/G Madness, Zilla Stompy
sex: male
favorite color: blue
Favorite magic color: green, with a splash of something else. FEAR THE FATTIES!!!!
Favorite cards: Spiritmonger, Verdant Force, Troll Ascetic
Least Favorite card EVER: Exalted Game Swinging Angel
Least favorite play: Incinerate being misdirectioned at my troll (linkXwing)

Hi I dominate Bret And paul on a usual basis. I am the best magic player ever. Thank you!
huh? who is this? whatever, I am Lewis, I play 1.5 because it is like T1 without money. I play whatever else is going on that I can play in (i.e. extended tournies, PTQ's JSS, whatever) I am from Portland, and I am a savage netdeacker. Can't build a deck worthwhile if my life depended on it.
That's about it.

I've been one of the "lurkers" that people have been bitching about in the past few weeks, and I figured i'd pop my head up and let people know i'm hanging out and hopefully participating more in the future.

My name is Jim, and I've been playing Magic: The Gathering since slightly after the release of "Revised Edition" This was obviously back in the day when you could still get unlimited boosters (albeit expensive ones), and before the mistake that was Fallen Empires.

I played mostly at the card shop that was in Camillus Mall (Was this Tails or am I mistaken?), and the occasional tournament that was held at the now defunct SportStar2000. When these locations closed I was forced to play the occasional tournament at George's, until soon after Ice Age came out.

Once Ice Age was released, things changed in my life and I moved out of playing Magic (Didn't have the money, or the people to play with anymore). I didn't touch a Magic card until walking into Altered States to play in a Booster Draft at the end of June. TeenieBopper clued my brother and I into the format, and how the draft would work, and I was off.

Since then I've been playing regularly in Type 2, working to make waves, and use the winnings to move back into the Type 1.5 arena. This is the format I have been looking for, and I can't wait to be playing regularly again.

From this point you'll see me playing Type 2 on Fridays and Saturdays (I'm that annoying guy who brought Tooth and Nail back to Altered), and hopefully Sundays with whatever I can scrap together.

That being said.. the Source has been an amazing resource, and I hope to have something to contribute to the forum soon.

Thanks all

Hello all, I'm from the Netherlands and I've been playing magic since Ice Age came out. I'm fed up with vintage, since the more I got into it I kept the feeling that it's not really competitive when you don't have all the power... and then it's just topdeck mode :(
Anyway, I like extended better. The old extended was my favorite format, though I like it as it is now. With the coming extended rotation, most of the cards I've grown to like are history... but not here! So, here I am.

Im pretty good yet its hard when u can only afford the 1-3 tables and people stay in and River u.... I hate that river it should die a horrible death.... I wear sunglasses when i play u can call it intimidation.... I use them in magic and Poker.... Yes sometimes i wear glasses they can see my hands yet i flip through my cards so fast u cant see them plus u can only see a bit of the picture so only good players would beable to know what they are if there looking good enough...

Greetings all. My name is Rich Bourque. (Yes, like the hockey player. We're related somehow.) I am a level 2 judge from Syracuse. FakeSpam has nicknamed me "Communist." TeenieBopper informed me of this place while he was on his way into Garvey's sister's room and I was on my way out. I have a vast knowledge of the Unglued "Rulings," and have removed my pants (faster than a mana source) twice in tournament play in order to block a Hurloon Wrangler. Back, like five years ago, I was one of the most feared 1.5 players in Syracuse, and then, I met a girl (don't worry, it could happen to you, too, some day) and my magic playing dwindled to only once or twice a week. I have since entered in 12 1.5 events and have posted a winning record in only one. :( I still draft regularly, and judge at every prerelease at Altered States (I'm the loud one.) I have no power cards any more, and am only 36 cards away from having a full playset of dual lands... :D

I didn't even know this thread existed... which would explain why I haven't posted in it yet.

I'm Max, from Portland, OR. I /occasionally/ play at AU, but rarely do I find myself actually there. I also respond to: Priscilla; Percilla; Dude; Jesus; Master of Tim.dec; Zen Platoist Agnostic; Eww, what's THAT?!; and others.

Longtime tim.dec player, I have a tiny tiny /tiny/ card pool. When Aaron Forsythe says he doesn't want to hear about theoretical crud, he's talking about people like me. I honestly don't play much, but I wish I did.

Big interests include philosophy, theology, psycholinguistics, psychology, and... philosophy? Whatev.

Name's Nick, and I suck at Magic because I never think before I play things. Ever. If it looks like I'm thinking, I'm really not, I'm just staring blankly at my hand.
I only play in tournaments at Horizon Games in Houston, TX, because it's the closest one I am willing to go to and spend money on every week.
My brother began collecting cards back in Revised, but I didn't start playing until Mirrodin. You may think I have a lot of good old cards, but nope, they all got stolen (the good ones). I already spent all of the money I can afford to spend buying crappy cards for crappy decks that are useless. I did manage to purchase a few good cards in there, but not enough to build anything worth playing.
My team consist of two other people, neither are great players. There's a fouth member also, who was a good player, but he got sent to military school, but not before giving me all of his cards for the time being (still nothing good, though). One of the others plays and wins $30 in Duel Masters tournys every week, but won't spend any of it on Magic cards. The last just has an assload of cards because he has two brothers that buy booster boxes out the ass.
Did I mention I suck at Magic? I do.

Other random stuff:
Age 16, grade 11, not doing to well in school because I don't study at all and I never do homework.
Favorite game: Tribes, Tribes 2, Tribes: Vengeance
Favorite MTG color: black
Favorite decks: GFC, Goblin Sligh, Aluren (I wish it didn't suck), U/G Madness
Favorite food: Pizza I guess
Favorite card: Donate
Favorite book: I hate reading, but I'd have to say 1984 or Animal Farm both by George Orwell. I also enjoyed the Redwall and Xanth series by Brian Jaques and Piers Anthony respectively. Read from the beginning of both to Lord Brocktree (Redwall) and Xone of Contention (Xanth). Don't remember any part of either series though...

I did not notice this existed til now. Cool.

Anyways I'm a pharmacy major studying at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Can. I'm taking a semester off of school to work and go on a holiday. I live in a town called Kamloops, which is about 200 miles northeast of Van.
I started playing magic during The Dark, but I quit from Tempest until Legions when I started again last year. I kinda play all formats (or basically whatever format is being played each week at the local comic book store I play at) but my favourite is probably type 1. I've really been taking an interest to 1.5 lately after the recent bannings (how ironic that I finally picked up a playset of drains just a month after!)
Yeah so that's about it. In case you're wondering about the nick it's actually something I picked up from a youth exchange I did to Poland that had many participants from Canada, Poland, and Ukraine. It was given to me by my Canadian counterparts, and by no means carries any derogatory meaning.

Cheers,

Blackie

Hey, I'm 15, and I've been playing M:TG since around Masques block (I pretty much missed Urza Block), but I started playing competitively during Odyssey. I mostly play T2 right now, because I can't afford Vintage formats (and I wasn't around for em), but I'm testing my Legacy decks by proxy or Apprentice until I have enough money for them. Anusien brought me here via a link (we're both judges on Magic-League).

I'm glad I finally found an M:TG board that's not filled with complete idiots and actually has guidelines to use proper grammar and spelling.

I've been playing since Odyssey block, but I've managed to get my hands on most of the essentials thanks to the lovely weak Dollar :-P. Killer Joe
12-14-2004, 03:10 PM
[color=#000000:post_uid7]Greetings and Salutations!

Allow me to introduce myself: I am Killer Joe (my name derives from a classic Benny Golson Standard Jazz composition). I love Jazz music.

I am a family man with a wife and two primary school aged children. I reside in the Southwestern part of Pennsylvania; home of the 12-1 Steelers!

I am mostly a casual player but I walk in the grey twilight area of competetive and casual magic play. In other words, I am a Struggling Tournament Player (really struggling).

I am currently the new chairsperson for "The Multiplayer Magic League", a league sponsored by GASP (Gaming Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania). We will be holding our first game on January 11th. It's basically a year-long, multi-player, point-based, non-sanctioned Magic: The Gathering tournament (formerly called, "The Rogue League"). You can read more about it at: www.GASPgamer.com

I have been a member of the website Casual Players Alliance since January 2000 (www.casualplayers.org). It's a website for casual Magic players but ALL kinds of nutty's are there.

For the past four years I have been touting that someday the sky would fall,...um, er,.....no, I mean that Wiz Co. would someday call on the rising of the format 1.5. I actually voted for the title "Legacy" at their website.

My first deck even worth mentioning was "Seńor Stompy" an all green deck played some Slovak guy way back in 1997 at Worlds or whatever it was called back then. I just so happened to like mono-green (such a newb, I was), I had almost all of the cards for it so I played it at local tournaments and that's where I caught the tourney bug.

My next deck I worked hard on was a 5CG played (again, I'm bad at remembering names) by the winner of the Mountain Regionals back in 1998. It had Birds of Paradise, Tradewind Rider, Wall of Blossoms, Derelor, Incinerate and Armageddon, to name a few staple cards. I actually beat a local "I'm the BEST" guy with his Paul Sligh deck.

As long as I can remember I have had four copies of Tradewind Rider in my collection. When I saw Survival of the Fittest become popular, in the Nightmare deck, I got four of those. I liked Blue/Green decks so much that I flat-out paid $50 for four copies of Tropical Islands.

Back in 2K I was one of those net.dec jerks who abused Tradewind/Survival (TS) at my local store. No one wanted to play against me casually and just hated to be matched up with me at an Extended tournament. When SotF got ~Banned~ in extended, I was so sad. But I NEVER gave up hope that someday Wiz Co would come to their senses and make a format in which the combo would come alive, again!

A few months ago I noticed that someone, somewhere on the net made a tourney report in which they were playing TS but with Anger in the mix. So I searched the web and found a decklist, I think it was here (hmmm, not sure though). But anyway, I looked it up again about a month ago and my search lead me to here.

I don't post very often and I'm not even sure I can add anything to the conversations so I leep a low profile until I feel I'm qualified to state something.

I have the current decklist for ATS and have read the forum for it at least once, the whole way through!

I really like to draft and play sealed, but multiplayer "constructed" games are the most fun for me.

~Killer Joe

Hey, I'm Adam Barnello, from Syracuse, NY. I go to college full time in the barren wasteland of Potsdam NY (Clarkson University), which is why every time I go to a tournament, half the people say they've never seen me before, although I used to play at Amrod's every week back in the day. I've been playing since I was fourteen, which would make it.. 97? Yeah, I think that's right. I play 1.5, and have a sick racket going at school where I draft for free. Starting to get into Standard a little more, now that I have some time and money on my hands to keep up with sets. I stopped playing for a while right around Stronghold until this summer, and I'm back with a vengeance.

Age: At this moment, 24

Favorite Bands: Tool, Front Line Assembly and Skinny Puppy.
Current Favorite Author: William Gibson
Current Favorite Movie: LOTR Trilogy

I play Legacy because Vintage is too much of an investment for me. I like Legacy as well because most games aren't as chaotic or fast paced as Vintage. I do drafts every once in a while, extended here and there, but don't play Standard. I play at Metagames in Springfield, The Book Nook in West Plains, and The Game Stash in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

I am a Network Administrator. I also play bass guitar. I have a weekly Role-Playing group and we play D&D, Star Wars, and Shadowrun for the most part.

Hoojo comes from my teenage years of being into Marilyn Manson and needing a name to play Quake3 and Tribes online.

I've been playing off and on since Exodus and I have a pet deck I've been toying with for the past few months (since the big format change) which I'll probably be posting about within the week. I haven't played much lately and figured since I don't get the chance to play very often anymore I should share what I've found so that it can be developed further or just laughed off as retarded. :;): I'll just preview it by saying it appears to have a decent enough matchup against goblins.

Anyway, this site has pretty much always been a great read so I thought I should try to pay everyone back as best I can by contributing to it. :D

I'm Ted Dvorak, living in Ogdensburg, NY right now, attending SUNY Canton, majoring in Finance.

I started playing magic during the summer of 1995, I think, it was the summer that fallen empires came out. I played up until 1998ish, when stronghold came out, then put my cards in the closet and they sat there until 8th ed. came out. Started playing again at the 8th ed. 10th anniversary tournement in Watertown, NY, came in 2nd place out of 20 people, and thought, hmm.. not bad, maybe I'll start playing again.

Have been kicking a$$ and taking names ever since ;-)

My favourite formats are sealed deck, draft, and extended, but I play everything.

I don't get to play very often because I'm out here in the middle of nowhere, but, if you live anywhere near me, or in Potsdam, Canton, Massena, Watertown, etc.. feel free to PM me :-)

This is my first post.

I'm French, living near Paris, 38 years old.

I started Magic in 1999. I quit and came back several times. Now I don't wanna quit anymore, never. :) I play only online, using Magic Workstation.

I usually play T2 and recently I have discovered T1.5. I love it and I was amazed by the awesome content of this forum, which I discovered some days ago.

I plan to study most deck archetypes of the T1.5 metagame, thanks to the content of this forum.

I'll submit in the near future a mono black reanimator deck.

Greetings, My name is Robert. Call me Rob please.

Been playing MTG since Ice Age, stopped playing due to money and moving around about the time Urza's Destiny came out. Just recently started to play again when Mirrodin came out.

I have been Championing GroATog lately, although I have not been able to get to a real Legacy tournament yet. I hate money for that fact and live clsoe enough to Syracuse that I intend to be playing there.

Hi, The name is Magnus, and I'm a 28 year old guy from Sweden. I've been fascinated by Legacy for quite awhile now and the announcement of 2 Legacy GPs one of which I can actually go to (It's a bit far from Sweden to Francem but it may very well be worth the trip). made my make up my mind to finally join up here seriously. Currently, my legacy decks are just pushing the boundary between casual and comptetitive, but I hope to take my Legacy to the competitive level without losing sight of the fun part.

Oh, and I just have to say it: Legacy>Vintage, We have officially sanctioned events coming up!

Hello my name is Henry Gammon, I live in Hamilton, NZ. I started playing around Mirrodin block and have been interested in 1.5 since I started and found out what the format was. The 1.5 scene is currently dead here but im trying to get more people interested in the format then organize some tournaments. I currently use stompy, goblin sligh and U/G madness. My best trade was when I traded an oversold cemetry for a FoW then traded the FoW for a mint revised taiga (my only dual land).

Hi, I'm Doug, and I'm a Syracusan. I've been playing since about the time Revised came out, and at tournaments since '98. I quit for two years twice, so I missed out on some good stuff, but I hope to make up for it. Unfortunately I sold my collection last time I quit, so I only have one deck put together and two in progress. My vintage rating peaked a little over 1800 but now it's 1760. I am in shock at how almost everyone has good 1.5 decks now. It used to be me, my friend Jason Toms, or Mike Glow winning most weeks, but now I'm the only one of us still playing magic I think and I haven't quite gotten back into the swing of things yet. I have the habit of playing only at tournaments, which doesn't help. Hopefully I'll meet some of you out-of-towners at the Big Arse II.

hey, i'm Simon... 22, and living in Vancouver, BC (i.e. the furthest place from all the gawdamn tournaments). Played from 4th till just before 6th and was the proud owner of the entire fallen empires set (which still has the best damn flavour text ever... and saprolings ownzor all newbz).
I have too much free time at work so I goldfish ellaborate combo decks all day, amazed at how easy it is too win games with out opponents (go food chain, matron/embermage/fierce empath). Can't help but notice everyone and their mother is from Oregon here so... you know... if anyone gets about arranging a large tournie down there I'll come and scoop to force of will or something rouge (red, not rogue).

Hi guys, my name's Steve, live in Fairfax, VA. I'm going into my senior year of high school. Sorta just started in Legacy, before then I sorta just screwed around in tournaments, but I'd actually like to care about my DCI rating :p

Favorite deck is green beats, but since that doesn't work out so hot for Legacy, I dunno what deck I'll build and play, but I'll figure something out :-P

09-28-2005, 03:41 PM
hey, i'm hat. i'm 19 and currently going to school in philly.

i'm trying to get into legacy because most of the other formats bore me right now. extended is fun, i s'pose, and post-rav t2 is just bewildering, but really i just wanted to play with fows and duals and daze. plus i was totally disillusioned from cokblock.

anyways, um, i mostly joined just to talk about gro but i'm sure i'll be talking about other stuff too. i have gobs built and i like playing it in extended but i was hoping there'd be an answer to it here. there isn't one yet but dammit i'll try!

oh, does anyone know any place to play in philly? let me know if you do.

Age: 21
Location: Rhode Island (USA)
Decks: Anything that is good. Love playing black.
Judge: Yes, I'm a level 1. Soon to be level 2 hopefully.
Formats: I play every format in Magic competitivly.

Just recently got into Legacy. Hopefully the transition won't be to harsh. Considering I played Vintage for a while.

Hey, my name is Gabe.

I have played Magic since revised but only competitively since like Judgement.
Age: 19
Location: Mass, I play at Thats Entertainment and TJ's.
I avoid Net decks at all costs. Playing a deck you did not create removes a whole element of Magic, the one I feel is most important.
Formats: I mainly play 1.5, but I also play type 2 and have played some type 1. I obviously draft and do sealed.

Though I would post and say hey ...uh hey....

Bob, 27, here from san Jose, Cali

I have been playing magic for far too long. I started at the end of beta/beginning of unlimited for those of you that know superstars I remember when john sold cards out of his binder.

I start and stop magic an awful lot......
Being wholly unproductive at work and reading the boards here started me up again recently. I used to go to Pleasanton for a bit, a while back and then stopped and am now back on the band wagon for a bit, as work etc now permits it. If any of the people from the area can give me a hey and let me know where people play legacy now etc, Pleasanton still around? it would be greatly appreciated since I haven’t been around in a while.

Well I never introduced myself so I will now.
My name is Nathan VonSchlegel. Started casual play in Urza Block, Competitive (fnm) Onslaught Block. I've yet to break into my professional magic career but then again I hope that never happens as this is a silly narcotic cardboard game. I'm in school right now in the medical field and work for a sweet company thats paying me to shuffle cards so I'm still playing magic. My main hobby is music so magic usually takes a back seat.

Fav format:Standard
High Rating: 1780ish?
Location: Worcster MA
Type of player: Spike/Johnny
Colour(s): Black, Red, Green, Blue, White in that order
Music: Black metal, death metal, other anal leakage of christ
Hobbies: Drums, MTG (duh), Mocking people that give a shit about politics, Selling cigarettes to kids

I refuse to play MTGO because I bought MTG Encyclopedia, you guys remember that beast? Wizards discontinued it and wouldn't refund me shit, F them. That leaves me stuck with Sunday tournaments playing Legacy. I like this format but it's beginning to bore me now. Too many of the same cards unlike a rotating format and too many pretencious players. Auf Wierdersehen. 88!

Hey, my name is Chuck, although most people just call me Gooch because that's my middle name. I'm pretty new to Legacy, but I played last year's Extended extensively so I have a -pretty- good idea of what's going on. I play a similar Gro deck to the one Ben Goodman played at the GP in Philadephia.

12-22-2005, 01:19 PM
Hi, I never introduced myself either.
My name's Vincent, I started playing during 4th edition (you know, when the good cards rotated out). I only started to play cometitively during Onslaught block.
Fav. format is Legacy. I played it even before it was an actual format. Used to play survival (and I probably changed between 100 different builds of it). Then I played Gro and have played it since 3 yrs ago.
I mostly played 1.5 in local tourneys, except for GP Philly. There, I played GAT (with 4 colors - Hey, I think Summersburger did the same to use Mage) and ended up 49th overall, mostly because I didn't bring any Goblin Hate (I thought it was already hated out). There's a picture of me on Wizards' s site (GP Philly, Day 1, Feat. Match 4). I played against Billy Moreno; he had a deck designed by Mike Flores (who kept saying that my Dryads sucked) and I smashed it savagely.
I am the spike/johnny type of player. Favorite color(s): FOW and STP (U/W).
Music: STP (not the card; I still think STP is better than Velvet Revolver), Iron Maiden, Cypress Hill, Biggie Smalls, Snoop Dogg, Lacuna Coil
Hobbies: MTG, collecting swords, hittin' the pipe (often)
Location: I have 2 addresses: one in NJ and one in NY, where I go to college at CUNY.
Fav. Actress: Heather Graham (I think she really hot, although she's like 15 yrs older than me)
BTW, Gro and Gro varients are the best decks to play in 1.5, if you're a good player.

Say, does anyone here go to Neutral Ground? We desperately need more 1.5 players there; it's being overrun by Standard, Extended, Limited (which is ok), and ugh, Yugioh.

Oh hey, I just noticed this thread. My name is Brendan, almost 17, from Worcester, MA. I too started playing during Urza's block and made my first FNM appearance during OLS. I have a love/hate relationship with Standard, but Extended and Legacy are my passions. I also dabble in 10-proxy Vintage, and I play combo like it's going out of style.

Damn, I know 3 people on this page already. My names Ben Hatch and I'm from Worcester, MA. I started playing MTG pretty recently at like Apocalpyse but stopped for a year when the Kamigawa sets came out. Just recently I started playing local 1.5 tournamnets every week. I have the amazing power to play bad sub-par decks and do well with them, namely BBS for a while and UG Madness. I play mostly for fun, but I've won occasionally. Like eveyone else, I post here cuz I have no life.....

Many of you may have seen me lurking around here and other MTG sites - G'day to all who haven't.
I've been playing far too long. It's getting kinda embarrassing. I'm actually going grey! It's real bad when at FNM I often face opponents who weren't born when I won my first tournament. Fortunately I haven't started losing to them yet, but we'll see how long that lasts!
Anyways, the legacy format here is still a bit scrubby. My team also doesn't have much time for testing after T2 and 1.X is outta the way. When the 1.5 banned list was the T1 restricted list, however, the format was popular here, so I already have 5 odd years of experience to bring to the table. Legacy is really catching on here too; hopefully I'll soon have real data to post about. Untill then I'll just sit in the corner spouting old school tech ppl might not have been exposed to, or forgotten.
A hearty pat on the back to all the Mods and Administrators. Its so nice to find such a serious and focussed site devoted to my favourite format. And please people, DON'T TELL KIDS, FLAMERS AND ARROGANT SCRUBS ABOUT THIS PLACE!!!
P.S. - What's with having to log back in so often?

Hello, I'm Nick Wowelko (The Nick) from Syracuse, New York. I usually focus my attention on type 2 (constructed), but over the last year I've been getting more into Legacy. I do really enjoy the format, as my favorite deck of all time is Vial Affinity. I've also played Goblins, Threshold, and 3 Color Angel Stompy.

I'm trying to get a little respect in the Legacy community around here as I'm an OK player in constructed. I've been telling everyone that Affinity is good in Legacy and everyone just laughs at me. Maybe someday I can convince the community.

Hi, I havn't introduced myself yet so I will now.

Name: Noah
Nationality: Canadian, Vancouver
Magic Stuff: I've played Magic for 8 years, on and off. Since Urza's.
Age: 20
Gender: Male (no really)
I post mostly pointless shit to spam up threads - Cavius will vouch for me. I know shit about this game (interpret that as a lot or a little) so most of what I say is dumb as hell. I have made a few good points, though (hey, why are you laughing?)

Hmm, may as well hop on the bandwagon...

Name: Matt
Region: Columbus/Athens, Ohio
Years playing magic: 10?
Favorite format(s): Legacy, Limited, Standard, Extended (that order)
Favorite Deck: Combo (T2), Agg Control (Legacy)
Music: everything from Company Flow to Cryptopsy
Hobbies: piano, 40s, my sig other

I was a huge fan Type 1 during my college years, but I found that eating was more important than having a bunch of power cards around. I can honestly say that my type one collection paid my way through college (and infinite drafts). I kept playing legacy as it has always been my favorite format, and I would win most of the needed standard cards in money drafts when the gettin' was good. I spend a significant amount of time learning the intricacies of each deck I decide to play, so I prefer to play decks that reward the player for making difficult decisions.

I am proud to be a member of The Source. Look for me on MWS and hit me up for a game!

As many others, I've also never really introduced myself.

My name is Niels Blokland and I live in this nice little country called the Netherlands (or Holland like I like to call it, only most americans seem to think they are two different countries) in a small town (only 23.000 people) called Dongen.

I have now arrived at this wonderfull age off 22 (nothing really special about that) and I have yesterday ended my practical. I only need to go to school for 6 weeks and I am a gratueded Sound, Light and Image Technician.

I've been married very early (at 19), to a wonderfull girl I am now privilegded to call my wife. No I don't have kids yet and I prever to wait for a few more years, I first want to enjoy normal life now I have a fulltime job.

I started playing at 15 during Urza's Legacy, but I've never really played competive. I never really liked formats like standard and extended cause I've always wanted to play with every card I own. This is the reason I started playing Vintage a couple of years back.

Being on a budget in Vintage really suckes and I never really enjoyed playing tournaments for this reason. Then wizards created Legacy and the moment I found out, I started to love Legacy. No need for very expencive card (except some staples) and really lots of inovation left. Legacy rules.

This was the (short) story of my life, hope you liked it. If you didn't, why the hell read untill here?

Hello all.

I'm Tim Hetzel from Durham NC. Some may know me from the Wizards Boards (although I don't post there very often), TheManaDrain, or my team's boards (Team ABS). However, since I've just recently gotten into posting on Legacy boards I'd figured I'd introduce myself.

I'm 20 years old and I've been playing Magic since '94, but only competitively since late 2002, early 2003 (I did go to tournaments before that, but I wasn't what I consider "competitive"). Although I don't own power I like playing Vintage, mostly because I like winning with "bad" cards.

I've recently gotten into Legacy and finding the format fascinating. I hope to learn more about this great format!!

If anybody from the Triangle area (heck, or even the Belmont/Gastonia NC area during the school year) wants to play, drop me a line.

Hello, my name is Kyle and I live in Columbus, OH. I am about to start my sophmore year at Columbus State. I enjoy playing various sports, my shiny Xbox 360, and Magic. I have recently come into Legacy, and hope to attend all tournaments within a 3 hour radius of Columbus.

I hope to become friends with all of you!

Yo ! The name's Stew, well, Michael Stewart, but I go by Stew. I've been playing MtG since Unlimited, though I quit when Homelands was released and came back in time for Mirrodin.

I play Vintage the most and travel up and down the west coast for Power Tourneys. I am excited about Legacy and plan to spend some time dedicated to the format.

I'm looking for people in the San Diego area to play against, in either of the Eternal Formats. I know only a few stores to play at, and honestly they don't excite me. I'd be much happier finding competent players for homegames (small in-home tourneys, multiplayer, casual),

About me...

Favorite Music - Metal, mostly Death Metal
Favorite Movies - Star Wars IV-VI (you know, the real trilogy)
Favorite Sports Teams - Washington Redskins, LA Dodgers
Hobbies - Games, Women
Personal Fact - I have a 5yr old daughter.
Favorite MtG Color - Black
Favorite Vintage Decks - NGNG, UB Dragon, TaxMadness
Favorite Legacy Decks - The Game (Salvagers), Neo Sui (Deadguy), UG Madness
Least Favorite Vintage Deck - Oath
Least Favorite Legacy Deck - Vial Goblins

Anyway, should you want to game it up, gimme a PM or hit me up at www.team-abs.net

Hi I am Simon, living in Belgium, probably the most boring country in the world. It is easy to figure out then I have no life at all.
I am not playing long and discovered about Legacy very recently, and it became my favourite format immediately, because the format is much healthier to my budget than Standard or Vintage. I am currently playing Gamekeeper - Salvagers.
Here are some stats nobody is interested in, but i will give them anyway
Favorite card: Yawgmoth's Will
Favorite colorcombinations: UG, BG
Current decks: Gamekeeper - Salvagers (Legacy), URW-Tron (T2)
Decks I wanna build: URW Fish (Legacy), a nice combo deck for future T2 (post-Kamigawa), but I haven't found out yet wich combo

I'm Nick, played since a little after Ice Age. I'm from Danville, IL, which is this crappy little town south of Chicago. I mostly play Legacy, but sometimes I branch out into Standard if the environment is exciting or if I can make crappy little 10 dollar decks and do ok with them. I'm trying to work on some new decks, but not getting to far. And I think this site is really great now that I've come out of my 'Sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else discuss stuff' mode that went on for about 2 years.

I am Brett, located in GA. Originally started playing back in April '94 and continued played through summer of '95. A comic book storeowner introduced me to the game. My gf and I bought a starter deck and some booster packs. We attempted to play with just glossing over the rulebook. Wasn't until the next day back at the comic store then I was enlightened. Ended up stop due to lack of interest in my area (Mostly due to Homelands and the fact that the next set, Alliances, did not come out until July '96) and the fact that I would only play 1 and only 1 deck (UWGR – power, counter magic, bolt, StP, Factories, Serendib Efreet, Erhnam). Afterwards, played Warhammer for a bit.

In Feb 1996 I decide to sell off my whole collection for $2,000. I needed the money; I was a pizza driver going to college. The sad (I was not sad until summer of 2004) thing is I sold a NM full set of power, play set of all the revised dual lands and a play set of Juzam Djinn. Not to mention tons of other cards from Arabian Nights through Fallen Empires.

Anyhow, I got back into the game in summer of 2004, when I saw some 5th Dawn at a Hobby store. I started playing standard, got 13th @ GA states playing Affinity in '04, before long I got into Extended which was very short lived since I wasn't fond of the format after the rotation. Now I just play Legacy, both casual and competitively.

My name is Tom. I live in southeastern Mass and work in Prov , RI. I have been playing magic since the Invasion block, on and off. I am really into this legacy thing. I want to start playing at my local store, but now I have kids and mostly play with some friends at work casually, but still stick to current errata, rulings. I had stopped buying paper cards altogether and was playing stricly online. I amassed 4 completed sets of 8th Ed, and the Entire Mirrodin block. I am about to redeem all the sets. It does seem cheaper to get cards digitally and then redeem them. But, it takes a long time. I stopped playing during the Kamigawa block, I really didn't like the set, however I do like the new legend rule, no dead cards in hand , like jitte , anymore. Imagine if the old legend rule still applied? That would suck. Rav block is fun, a bit slow, but reminds me of invasion alot. I am looking forward to see what actually gets reprinted in Time Spiral.
Currently, I have been playing a high/tide reset deck, and a b/w confidant without the confidant(phyrexian arena). ( I am waiting for them in the mail , I won a playset on ebay) It still plays out well without the critter that just dies to SwtoPL. I also put in SOFI to stick on hippie, he just gives the buisness once equipped. I have complete playsets of all the dual lands. I own two beta power cards and those nice proxies of the rest. This is the best forum site I have found in Regards to legacy, nice to meet ya!

Hello - I saw somewhere an introductory post was asked for, so here it is:

Michael Maddox, 22, Houston, Texas

I've played legacy on and off for five years. I play with a close group of four friends, and we occasionally attend local tournaments. There isn't a lot of competition in our area that we know of. We do play test against popular decks, and each of us has a least one rogue deck that does well against every DTB in the stickies, as well as other popular decks. We don't like cookie cutter :)

If there's anyone in the Houston area that would like to play, we sometimes go to Enigma's or Strike Zone. We used to play at Bam's before the owner died :frown:

I'm here mostly to get information on new cards (not a lot of time = not a lot of keeping up with new sets) to check the latest popular cookie cutter decks, and to lurk around and see what ideas people are tossing around.

Hi, I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I enjoy the Legacy format quite a lot, as it's just a bunch of evolutions of old decks, which in my opinion were evolved from past deck designs. Like, Turbo Xerox and Not Quite Gro, Necropotence and Bw Confidant, Trix and Goblins, and White Weenie and Angel Stompy.

I've been playing this format for 1.5 years so far, and enjoy it a lot. I've played T2 around the Onslaught/Mirroden era, which was fun, because it defined 1.5 a little; Play Affinity or Beat Affinity was a thing my friend always said. I guess in 1.5, it's like that with Goblins for awhile.

Yeah, I take my time about these things, apparently.

My name is Terry. I live in Southern Illinois, which aside from our very localized scene (Carbondale area) is pretty much a Magical wasteland these days. Think "April is the cruelest month", only, you know, bleaker. One of the side effects of playing in a college town.

At any rate, our tournament group is organized by us, basically, since the one local store isn't very Magic-friendly. We run our own weekly events, with 100% prize payout, rotating the format every week with a 5 week rotation. Back around the beginning of the year, I got everyone to add the 5th week as Legacy, and it has become my second favourite format; sorry, I just can't shake Extended.

The meta here is very odd, as Goblins has 0 presence; the most common decks played are Deadguy Ale, Threshold, and Angel Stompy. I like playing various things, although lately I have been playing Train Wreck and Wildfire much more than anything else.

So, yeah. That's all the news that fits.

Alright. This is my first post and I'll try not to alienate myself quite yet.

I'm 15 and I've been playing since.... erm.... a while. I'm from Stillwater, NY. (Basically, you take a hard left at the gates of hell, and you're there.)

I used to play at the Guild, but, ya know.

I generally build my own decks, or really cheap netdecks. I'm broke and lazy. No cash, no job. Bad combo there.

If anybody knows anyplace around Stillwater to find a Legacy tournament, drop me a PM, and I'll be eternally grateful.

I'm still getting the format figured out, so be patient with me.

Hey everybody... Yeah I know I've been around a little bit but I pretty much didn't play magic since my last post 8 months ago... So I figured I would re-introduce myself :)

My name is Zeke Umile, I'm 17, a senior, I live like 40 mins southwest of Philly, PA, born in west philly. I love magic, obv, been playing a while, my constructed rating is 1866, limited is only 1688 because it seems like there never is any limited events here and the store hardly EVER reports drafts, and my eternal rating is 1692, because i'm good at gaining 92 points at GP philly and never playing sanctioned legacy. I've been playing competitively since around Torment, but that was just the start of me JSS'ing...

I came accross the Source again from a link on SCG forums and I was just like wow I love sourcers so I came back... WHERE DID GRAH GO :'(

Hi everybody,
I'm Enrico from Parma, Italy and I am 33 years old.
I started playing Magic with Revised and left playing when Mirage came out (and my duals became useless for T2).
I started again with Apocalypse and I play only Legacy.
I don't have much time to play but I really love this game.

I love the game, and I run DCI tournaments at my store at Science and Hobby in Watervliet, NY. I am new to the Source, and am trying to learn what I don't know about the game. I also love football (Go Jets!), and the Yankees, but neither are looking that great this year. Well....I guess the Yankees were alright...wait, nope...nope...not anymore. Oh well. Well, gotta get back to work. See ya!

I'm Matt, a.k.a. OutsideAngel just about everywhere online. I've been mostly lurking around these boards for over a year now (yikes!) but haven't been playing a lot of real-life Legacy for a variety of reasons. (money, time, ect...)

I've been playing since about Ice Age, then quit around Masques, came back for a little Type Two around Onslaught, quit again when Kamigawa was just starting, (curse you Raffinity) and now am getting back into Legacy.

I've lost to white weenie playing Necropotence.dec, lost to sligh playing Hatred.dec, lost to Extended High Tide splash red (for REB) playing Extended mono-u High Tide, lost to Academy combo playing Rec-Sur, lost to T1 Dragon playing Fish, lost to Raffinity playing Slide, and now I plan to lose to Gro and Solidarity playing Spring Tide, Goblins, and Burn.

Along with my friend Jon, I'm going to be getting more active in the Legacy scene. (made my first trip to the Lucky Frog on Saturday) Hope to go to some tournaments, including Gen Con this summer, and play some Magic in the best format around!

Hello All!

My name is Tyler and I'm from Mililani, Hawaii (Island of Oahu).

I really like The Source because the Legacy format seems really interesting to me since I have a lot of old cards. I currently collect more than play since the only person I know that plays Magic is my brother. I used to play with my co-worker as well but he moved to go to college.

Right now I'm really into collecting land cards. I try to get everything from Revised duals to Onslaught fetches. I'm trying to complete a playset of all the duals and fetches so I can easily have a manabase for any deck I would make.

I really enjoy reading about all the different decks from the proven ones to the ones in development. I never imagined that goblins could be so powerful and that combo decks could be so complex. I still have a lot to learn about this game.

If anyone is on Oahu and is looking for someone to play with please let me know. I'm not very experienced in playing but I am interested in learning more and playing with more people.

Thanks everyone!

Hello, I should have posted this sooner...
My name is Skylar, and I'm from Seattle Washington.
Legacy isn't very big up here, with the exception of friday night tournament. Not very many major tournaments are held up here and non of which are legacy.
Someone PLEASE bring legacy to the great northwest...

Hello,

My name is Jeff, and I'm 24 and live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I've been playing magic since I was 12. I still remember what rares I pulled in my first 2 Revised starter decks, which were: Nevinyrral's Disk, Wrath of God, Badlands, Scrubland, Armageddon and Fork. I've played Magic casually on and off since.

I'm mainly a student and collector of Magic. I enjoy reading about competitive play, rather than actually participating in it (I think I've played in all of 2 sanctioned touranments in my life). The Legacy format intrigues me the most mainly because it's an eternal format that isn't as degenerate as Vintage.

I enjoy playing the game with my friends, although I will indulge in a game at my local store every once and awhile. I play the 'big three' legacy decks at the moment (UGw Thresh, Goblins, Solidarity - although I'm still proxying the 4th reset), along with my pet WW deck. Also, as a collector, I have a weakness for foil cards and dual lands =p

Hey everyone. I'm Scott, a freshman at Boston University. I played Magic casually for a few years, but have just recently been getting into Legacy after finding an amazing deal on some Sea Drakes. Legacy is the ony Constructed format I play, but I'm a huge fan of Limited as well (mostly booster drafts, I suck horribly at sealed).

My brother introduced me to The Source, and so far my time here has been enjoyable. It's reading constructive, cohesive posts, as opposed to the crap over at the MTG.com boards.

'ello all. I am Jeremy, the said brother of VsTheWorld. I'm a junior at Stoughton High School (in Stoughton, MA; ~20 miles south of Boston). I started playing casually at the same time as my brother, which was around the release of Judgement. After playing casual for a few years, I started messing around with Extended and a bit of Standard on Magic-League. Finally, I settled on Legacy and play it often online, and I'll be attending my first actual paper magic Legacy tournament on February 25th.
I so far enjoy the Source much more than any other message board I've been to (Magic and non-Magic). It is so great having an enforced rule on grammar, capital letters, etc.

Hi, my name is dan and i'm from seattle. I started playing magic around ice age with my friends in like 2nd grade. I played casually up until the beginning of Urza's block before i quit because all my friends decided that magic was no longer cool and so i had no one to play with. I started playing again my senior year of highschool when champions of kamigawa came out. There was a local legacy tournament that i started playing in and i got progressivley more competative. right now i'm a sophmore at claremont mckenna college in southern california.

I'm John from Tallahassee, FL and I make a living writing software.

I started playing magic right at the beginning of revised then I stopped for a while at Urza's Saga until Time Spiral came out.

I read The Source all the time for ideas, but I have yet to play in any Legacy tournaments. I built solidarity to play against my friends locally though.

I don't think there is much of a Legacy community in the southeast US :frown:

Hey everyone, I'm Fred Bear and I was introduced to Magic during my undergraduate days of college during Necro-Summer. I quit playing when my playgroup graduated (just before Urza's) and began again only recently. Not much happening with Magic, no FNM or local shop tourneys, so I mostly just test on Workstation and with one neighbor. Still waiting to go to my first real event - hopefully a GPT or something.

Hi to everyone...I'm Nick and I live in Bloomington, IL now. I moved here a little over a year ago from Louisiana after I graduated college at Northwestern St. I picked up Legacy a few months before Gencon last year and got into Vintage last October. I started playing magic a couple weeks before the Mirrodin Prerelease (that was my first "tournament").

Funny note on myself - My record in the mirror is an amazing 1-x-2 (where x is probably around 20).

Hello everyone and all the others that aren't here

My name is Matthieu and I'm from Québec (the province, the town is too small and lame to even say the name) but I'm currently living with my wife in Brussels, Belgium. I study Philosophy at ULB and I play Magic since... 7 years !
I'm 20 and I got myself deeper into Legacy in 2005, having played Vintage mostly for the time before that, and now trying to keep track of Vintage, Legacy, Extended (okay, we're on off-season but hey!) and Standard and Block; that's enough to keep me busy at the least. ;) I'm playing mostly rogue decks like Enchantress, Aluren and Tog variants but I'm also not a dick with combo like CRET Belcher and generic aggro ranging from 4c Zoo to Dirty Kitty and Afownnity.

I'm an avid reader of forums but not a hell of a poster.

That's all, unless you wanna know what I love in music in arts in general. The case, drop me a PM !

Hope you'll have a nice day/night (since earth rotation put crazy strain on timezone here)

Matt aka frolll

ps : Don't forget that I'm always pleased to play with some elegant folks that pilot sophisticated decks on MWS (or just the golins/IGG MU as well)

Hi all of you.
I'm Tom, from Lithuania, i'm 20.
I'm a student of physics, started playing MtG with Shandalar, 3 yrs ago learned that paper Magic exists, and started playing. Shortly after i came across a format in which i could play some of my favourite Shandalar cards, namely DarkRit and Hippy, that's how i started playing Legacy.
We're trying to start a little community here, have a few hardcore players, but we're still young.

Hey all!

I've been playing Magic ever since Ice Age. I never got the chance to diss necropotence before the pros broke it in half because I never realized it existed. I played heavily in Magic for the next several years but never really got past the newbie stage as all of my co-playmates were newbies like me. We were all newbies for several years.

Proof of our newbieness? I once traded Gaea's Cradle for a Rootbreaker Wurm, didn't buy Tolarian Academy for P50 (equivalent to less than a dollar in those days) and believed that the "free mechanic" from Urza's Saga was fair.

I'm much better at Magic now. Thank God.

Hi!

I'm Angela. Yes, I am a girl. I live in Vienna and am currently studying chemistry at the university. I am 20 years old.
I started playing magic the time urza's legacy was the newest set and started tournament play last summer. Legacy has drawn me by being a format where I could use my old cards but without the brokenness of vintage. I'm a combofanatic and you will see some combo-decks popping up now and then.

Hey all!

I'm Mike from New London, Connecticut.

I'm 46 and I played Magic in NYC from Unlimited through Homelands.

I'm a rogue deck builder and I like playing things that nobody has seen before.

It was a lot of fun to Landkill somebody and then drop Energy Flux, Nethervoid and Tabernacle of Pendrall Vale and wait for either tutor or the single Black Vise to show up as I Feldon's Caned all the Sinkholes, Ice Storms and Stripmines back into my deck. It's even more fun when you drop Fastbond and then strip 3 lands in a row on turn 4 when they're still trying to figure out what your deck does.

My favorite win was one of the best players in our area who played just 4 Juzam's as his damage in a control deck. He dropped the Juzam turn one and I paralyzed it and shut him down. 20 turns later he was dead to his own djinn without ever getting up the mana to untap it or plow it through Nethervoid. I'm hoping that Legacy still allows weird offbeat ideas to catch some of the main decks by surprise.

Favorite movie: Tossup between The Killer Shrews, which made me sleep with the lights on for a week at age 9 and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

The line that got me with the killer shrews was the main non-mad scientist describing the viscious little beasties: "They have bacteria in their saliva that could kill a grown man in just hours. A 1.5 inch long shrew can leap to a height of 18 inches. These are the size of greyhounds and they might be able to leap 30 feet into the air!" I lived on the second floor and I had no doubt that a killer shrew could come vaulting in the window at any minute.

Interests: I'm semi-retired and writing now. Planning to publish a novel whenever I can get somebody in the profession to read some of the drivel I produce on a regular basis.

Right, greetings ,

I am Jorrit, crazy belgian student of doom most extraordinaire. I'm 21 years old and have a weird sense of humour.

I'm currently studying English-Dutch at the University of Antwerp and find myself quite bored over there most of the time. Rather near to said university I found my current watering hole, which is a cybercafe/bar/place where people play chess and magic.

I have been playing since Ice Age came out, though I had a break from Urza's Saga (I still have a theme deck from it, but that's about it) until Legions due to Warhammer. As of late, Magic is the biggest drain on my wallet, narrowly edging out the consumption of special beers (I am partial to the occassional dark ale).

When it comes to magic, I playtest a lot, usually with my brother or a couple of people at the bar, and am quite capable of beating people over the head with very very rogue-ish contraptions that go on to become tourney lists without me knowing it. Most proud am I of a very weird version of the extended TEPS, running basic lands (amongst others) and twiddle, that beats most other extended decks at the bar.
I hate playing tourneys, due to people getting hideously upset over losing games. I do like playing drafts and sealed deck games, for those are mainly casual and not that important for most local players.

Outside of magic, music and reading are favourite things to busy myself with. For music, my current favourites are Porcupine Tree and Moonspell, though I can perfectly sit through the average amount of classical music, black metal and consorts just as easily.
Reading generally limits itself to fantasy and SF, though recently Hugo Claus have been drawing my attention, due to course-material urging me to read some of his work and me actually enjoying it.

That's about it...

Hey, Im Rob. Im a senior at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. I played since tempest, then left for the CHK block, and came back again during mirriodon. however when i came back i decided that i would channel the cash into MODO where i currently play exclusively. i left paper magic with a constructed rating of around 1850, and my crowing achievement would have to be a PTQ top 8 @ neutral ground NYC during the 2005 season (out of 250 players) in the extended format (2nd PTQ ever played and last). i was a member of an online budget vintage team called Team ABS, however, i believe the team folded long ago. but i am still going on modo, for about a year now and became capt of the stonecutter clan about 3 months ago.
