View Full Version : Should I sell my Tarmogoyfs to get Underground seas?

I'm considering selling my Tarmogoyfs to get money to get Underground Seas. This would also complete my collection of blue duals.
Thing is, I love him but I'm currently not using him in my Stoneblade deck. It's a tough choice since if I sit on him, he may drop in price in the future.

He's not banned in Modern, so expect a reprint within 6 months. Ship them now

These are good points, but I want other opinions first.

I agree with the dudes above.
There's a chance that we'll see Goyf in the future. Even then, Goyf is just a vanilla creature that eventually will get outclassed. Maybe nor in the near future but it will.
Underground Seas on the other hand will never see a reprint and will never be outclassed.

Yeah pretty much if you can sell 4 Goyfs and get 4 Seas, you should do it.
While Goyf is awesome, there is always the chance Modern loses steam/popularity like Extended and Goyf will drop back down.
Also, investing in a good mana base and card that lets you play so many decks (not to mention if you get into Vintage) is always good.
Finally, Seas can only ever go up in value, IMO.

Underground Sea has been exploding in price and will never go down.
Tarmogoyf is at a high price but not still increasing. If it is reprinted as a rare it will be obtainable for a maximum price of 25$.
I'd sell them and get seas.

fixed your post.
Goyf is only really played in half the green decks right now... Knight is a better threat, and Scavenging Ooze is still a solid 2-drop GSZ target.
Also, it's probably easier to borrow Tarmogoyf that Underground Sea if you need them anyways.

I don't think Underground Sea is poised to go up in the immediate future, but I do think gofy will drop.
It is in Modern and WotC wants Modern to be somewhat affordable. So I could see gofy in a duel deck and/or judge foil. Or maybe they will just ban him in Modern, the easy fix for WotC.

Well, I got nearly unanimous support behind this idea. Which is great because I think at most I traded jank and 2 Ball Lightning for a playset back when they were first printed.

My stance on th ematter should be clear, as I opened a thread called "Sell your goyfs" :p. That said, get 3 seas and some foil Aether Vials if you don't have them yet, good way to make a quick buck.

Agreed with all these posts. It's much more likely that Goyfs will drop then Seas. Also, as an extra bonus, you get to play COMBO with Seas (OMG).

I would gladly take 4 Undergrounds for 4 Goyfs any day of the week. Unless you have the feeling that somehow Modern is going to supplant Legacy (lol) sometime soon, Underground will always be the better bet.

Maro admitted that tarmogoyf was a mistake to be printed.
Will they still print a over power card in standard?
Might be Duel Deck or Judge foil but the prices wont change that much.

Duals > Other magic cards. Flip them, you paid nothing at first, get your free Seas.
Also, Don't get cold fucking feet about having dual lands. It's beneath/above noone, and only noobs fear success.

All creatures in this world eventually get old and die, but land, land is eternal.

If anything, even Maverick, a pure GW aggro deck, kicked Goyf to the curb. That says something.

Already got rid of them. The extra money will help pay for U/B duals.
