Hi guys!
As is probably obvious from the title, this is a stompy shell featuring Liliana of the Veil. My main motivation to explore this archetype was the question "what to do with liliana in legacy?" The idea of dark ritual-ing her into play on turn 1 quickly became very appealing, especially after misstep was banned. So I started to try to build a deck around the premise "4 dark ritual, 4 liliana, the rest is negotiable" and this is where I ended up.
The deck:
4 Bloodghast
4 Gathan Raiders
4 Stinkweed Imp
4 Shriekmaw
2 Tombstalker
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Trinisphere
4 Liliana of the Veil
2 Umezawa's Jitte
4 Dark Ritual
3 Chrome Mox
4 Ancient Tomb
12 Swamp
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Verdant Catacombs
Gameplan
It's functioning is pretty straightforward for anyone who's familiar with stompy:
1. get 2-3 mana on turn 1 using one or a combination of:
ancient tomb
dark ritual
chrome mox
2. make a devastating/game altering turn 1-2 play:
chalice of the void
trinisphere
liliana of the veil
3. Play your deck normally, since most of your lock pieces don't mess around with your game plan much while they are (hopefully) putting your opponent in a very awkward position and giving you a temporarily huge tempo advantage.
Creatures
I don't think gathan raiders, tombstalker and shriekmaw require much introduction nor justification. As for the others, Bloodghast synergizes very well with discard effects (gathan, liliana) and serves as a recursive jitte carrier. While stinkweed synergizes with discard effects a bit less, he serves as an even stronger recursive jitte carrier or death touch blocker for when things don't go according to plan (I'm looking at you, tarmogoyf!) Stinkweed also has some marginal cute applications such as dredging on turn 1-2 for an extremely early tombstalker or luckily dredging into bloodghasts for increased board presence.
I haven't given much thought to the sideboard, but obviously it's going to be very important since you need gy hate and better ways to fight aether vial decks when you're on the draw. But let's focus on main deck ideas for now.
So please, if you have any of the following, don't hesitate:
1. Criticism on my card choices/numbers
2. Interesting cards that I haven't included but you believe should be considered
3. Similar lists that others have played/brainstorm
