Out of interest, what formats do you play, and why? What do they give to you?

(Extended fused with Modern to make room for "Other" option)

I find myself playing mostly German Highlander and Pauper nowadays because speculation is making prices of just about everything shoot up ridiculous amounts. Just feels stupid to be paying shittons of money because I need a playset of something that was printed with a red/gold expansion symbol.

On top of that, there's just something wrong with the feel of past Standard formats and the current Legacy. The general trend of hybridized decks is probably a large culprit in that, I think: Back in the day, the different approaches just felt a bit purer. Now it's started to congolmerate into an amorphous mess thanks to the multitude of easy, splashable threats (thank goodness we still aren't at Lor/Sha standard levels of greenmidrange+rdw.format)

I play Legacy in person and Pauper online. I also try to draft (in person) whenever the current block has a very good Limited format, the last time being ROEx3. Scars block looked above average for draft, but not good enough to shell out $15 for one tournament.

I play Legacy, EDH (with cutthroat Legacy playgroup :D) and I have 4-5 pauper decks built but no one to play with :(

Does Cube count under "other"?

I plat Legacy, Pauper, and limited. I used to play EDH alot, but just grew bored of it. Pauper is great. Wish more people played it. I Dunno what german highlander is.

tl;dr: EDH without the bs, played mostly in Finland and Germany.

More accurate description: 100 card singleton with it's own banlist (http://highlandermagic.info/) and a special mulligan rule: Once during the mulligan process, you can set aside any number of cards from your hand, draw as many cards from your deck and shuffle the set-aside ones back into your deck. The mulligan rule feels really nice and is quite addictive. The format is more cutthroat in nature than EDH, has a saner ban list, but still provides that nice vibe that comes from big singleton decks.

The format's current most prevalent archetype are green-white based 3-4 colour goodstuff lists usually packing Stoneforge Mystic which is on the banning watchlist for that reason. Example decklists here (http://mtgpulse.com/events-highlander).

For other, we make a custom set of cards on magic set editor, print it out as proxies, and play stack or draft it. Pretty fun, but it sure uses a lot of printer ink.

I began with german Highlander and now I play same deck also as EDH deck. Both formats equally.

I like like variety of cards and possible interactions and longer games.

only type 1 (vintage) since 1999 with a very big break from 2001 to 2009. before that only casual with friends for a few years.
but thinking about building one or two legacy decks.

Legacy and cutthroat combo EDH (same playgroup as Metalwalker). I'll also play Modern when it's available, but it usually isn't.

I actually predominantly play Limited, as Erie has zero Legacy meta and I don't make enough to get to a better one with any regularity. However, I love playing Legacy in New York, so if I get a raise, I'll be going there when my homework allows.

I also play Archenemy and Planechase with my board game crew, though they're more of the Dominion/Thunderstone mindset and (at the risk of being harsh) nowhere near even my level of Magic, such as it is.

Mostly I play Legacy and EDH.

I play limited probably once every month or so, I usually play in prereleases at the least.

I have some casual like "8 year old standard" kind of decks that I play causal players for fun too. Technically I have modern deck, but literally haven't played with it besides against casual uncompetitive decks. Oh well I only spent like 30$ to finish it.

I have a cube, but haven't updated or played it since mirrodin besieged came out. Cube is alot of fun though, for anyone that hasnt tried it I highly recommend it. I feel like learned about limited, and legacy, too from it. You basically are trying to build really jank versions of legacy decks with lots of one ofs and random banned cards you usually cant use in legacy.

I don't actually play at all, so I sell cards, say to myself, man I want to build a deck, buy cards, not play....you get the idea.
This is mostly because I have a family that becomes more important than a game, well also because my wife thinks it is childish and would me rather not do it.
When I did more than just buy things, I found myself only really doing one type of format. Originally it was standard, then moved to vintage, the eventually became legacy.

I play budget legacy, modern, and Pauper on MWS. The 'other' category that I play is the only one I actually play on paper, and that is casual (both 1v1 and multi-player) using the Vintage ban/restricted list as the card pool guide.
