This is a casual legacy deck I'm building and would like to try and make it as good as possible. It's fun to play and can be really explosive. Although, there are a myriad of reasons as to why deck is easy to beat up. Obviously Wasteland is the worst thing for this deck, Stifle can also be troublesome, but not as bad as getting all your Nexuses Wasted. I honestly have just started building this now and knew I needed red for Blazing Shoal and blue for countermagic and card draw. It became full on RUG when I thought of Crop Rotation.
x4 Blazing Shoal
x3 Reaper King
x4 Greater Gargadon
x1 Progenitus
x2 Sensei's Divining Top
x1 Pithing Needle
x4 Brainstorm
x4 Stifle
x4 Daze
x4 Force of Will
x3 Crop Rotation
x2 Dismember
x3 Trinket Mage
x4 Inkmoth Nexus
x4 Wasteland
x2 Misty Rainforest
x2 Scalding Tarn
x1 Flooded Strand
x1 Wooded Foothills
x3 Island
x1 Dryad Arbor
x3 Tropical Island
sb
x4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
x3 Spell Pierce
x2 Pyroblast
x2 Red Elemental Blast
x3 Surgical Extraction
x1 Cursed Scroll
I considered playing Dark Confidant in here to draw into combo pieces and keep cards in my hand; but also to draw out potential removal. Not sure if 21 lands is going to be enough with 8 colorless lands, I might be getting greedy in doing that. The Dryad Arbor is to dodge Diabolic Edict. I was also brewing this with x3 Spell Pierce MD to hit crucial Swords to Plowshares, but 8 free counter definitely helps in that situation anyway. One concern I have with this deck is that it seems really soft to U/R Delver and Zoo. I probably need more room to play more than just x2 Dismember...
I've also been wondering about the idea of playing Living Wish? It's a good chunk of deckspace I feel this doesn't have easy access to, but also that Crop Rotation is just as good or better a lot of the time. You sacrifice a much bigger toolbox in not playing Wish, but you the trade off in speed I think is worth it.
Trinket Mages aren't even that janky in here because it's main goal is to keep your Nexus's up and safe from Wasteland. I know that it costs 2U so it seems really slow, but I think the tutoring it offers is too important to ignore, not to mention it leaves a 2/2 body on the field. I'm also playing Stifles because you can randomly win games by Stifling their first fetch and then Wasting their second land. They can also act as emergency tech by Stifling an incoming Waste targeting your Nexus. How many red sources do you think I should play to pitch to Blazing Shoal? (I know this is a noob question, I think the go to number is 7-8? But I don't even know for sure... anyone have any ideas?)
Anyway, how would you all build this? Or what would you change about this list?
