I feel that Counterbalance/Top and Punishing Fire/Grove don't play so well together because both require so much mana and hence it would be better to just commit to one or the other.

Hi Philipp
When I was playing smth like that for fun, it was kind of a Countertop Infect deck. Crusaders were great because of protection from almost all the remouval in format.

2 Volcanic Island
1 Badlands
3 Grove of the Burnwillows
1 Sunken Ruins
4 Polluted Delta
2 Scalding Tarn
2 Bloodstained Mire

4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Counterbalance

I hope you're joking. Counterbalance + Phyrexian Crusader + Grove of the Burnwillows? Doesn't sound good right?

I tried making something like this before and what ended up working best for me was a spin off of Gabriel Nassif's Supreme Balance from GP Chicago 09, changing out the black for red, and removing a lot of the critters (Sower/Trygon/Confidant) for Jace and the Punishing fire engine.. Its not RUB and I wasn't ever able to fine tune it but it sounds similar to what you were shooting for.

Changes I would make are in Bold, I am unsure if that would work better for you, but its how I would have run it.
Instead of conditional kill spells, all of your lands outside of 1 swamp and 3 groves are Islands, Shackles should work well. Daze helps the curve and is a free counterspell which helps against combo. I Disliked Bob here, you can continue if you want, but as for personal preference, I would use delver.
