Sudden Shock
:1::r: - Instant
Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.)
Sudden Shock deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
I've been thinking recently that Sudden Shock may be a solid removal choice in today's metagame. It kills the top creature threats of the format without your opponent being able to counter or even interact with you: Stoneforge Mystic, Delver of Secrets, and Grim Lavamancer.
My particular question is what decks do people think could use Sudden Shock as a viable option against Stoneforge/Delver/Lavamancer?

Most of the cards you will kill cost 1 mana, so using this is a huge tempo loss.

What about Stoneforge?

I said 'most' lol. Stoneforge generates card advantage as soon as it's played either way, and, unless the fetch a Batterskull, it doesn't really matter if it sticks around a lot of the time.
Witg Punishing Fire in the format I see no place for Sudden Shock. Any deck that wants this type of controlling effect will very much want the option of buying it back.

It's an interesting way to kill mother of runes

and vendilion clique with karakas on the board, or Snapcaster with Riptide Laboratory (less of a problem then clique but still)
I like it but punishing fire is probably just better

I could maybe see playing this in storm, where a mother and a hatebear would normally require 2 bounce/kill spells to get around. Virtue's ruin is probably better for that though. A cool idea, nonetheless.

Mmm
Especially because it's an instant so you can't burning wish for it

This. Punishing Fire is counterable, but you can just cast it again, which is alot better.

There is more than one red storm variant.

2 mana for creature removal is too much for storm.

I know I've seen grinding station lists with sudden shock in them as an answer to mom + hatebear but that's the only place I've seen sudden shock since maverick v. storm can be very onesided if the maverick player has mom + hatebear, forcing you to have 2 bounce spells or kill spells like slaughter pact.

I tried Sudden Shock in UBR Fearies and in BURW DDFT. It was a good card that could make some blowouts but it was generally too narrow to have a secured place in the 75.
