I will rewrite this as a primer shortly for this deck.

In short i decided to test for modern by playing the deck in legacy really. Since most spell in the deck are legacy staples, i figured it would be quite possible to create a deck worthy of tier 2-tier 1.5 status.

I have now played the deck in 2 pretty decent sized tournaments, and 1 smaller, and continously tweaked it from time to time. Notable cuts that are currently omitted from the decks include Hymn, Kitchen Stinks and Vampire Nighthawk, instead loam+wasteland has found its way to the deck. Have also been working alot on the curve, and it seems pretty well balanced by now.

My record so far:
1.generation: 47players, 6rounds swiss: 4-2(could have drawn for price, but my 5-0 opponent decided to dreamcrush me) and missed the prizes by 1 pt.
2. gen: 19players, 5rounds swiss: 3-1-1, good for 5th place, missing top4 on breakers
3. gen: 45 players: 5rounds swiss: 5-1(5-0-1 . we drew for split 1st place, but played it out anyway, which i lost)

Without further ado, heres the current list:

//Creatures
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Bloodbraid Elf
4 Dark Confidant
2 Eternal Witness
2 Scavenging Ooze
4 Tarmogoyf

//Spells
2 Life from the Loam
2 Maelstrom Pulse
4 Punishing Fire
2 Terminate
4 Thoughtseize
2 Sylvan Library
3 Liliana of the Veil

//Lands
2 Badlands
4 Bayou
2 Bloodstained Mire
1 Forest
4 Grove of the Burnwillows
1 Mountain
1 Swamp
4 Verdant Catacombs
2 Wasteland
1 Wooded Foothills

//Sideboard
1 Scavenging Ooze
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Extirpate
3 Red Elemental Blast
2 Virtue's Ruin
2 Chains of Mephistopheles
2 Pernicious Deed
1 Garruk Relentless

My biggest issue is that I lack a serious beatstick in the 3slot. I can make room for 2 critters in that slot, but none seems good enough. Considerations have included all from kitchen stinks, v. nighthawks to Glissa and countryside crusher.

Board is still not quite well-tuned yet, but all the cards in it have served me well in my tourneys so far.

Let me know what you guys think - also need input for a decent name for this jund deck

Jitte seems to be pretty good. Since you are playing a lot of creatures...
Oh wait. There is no flying creature.

Considering how many high-cost cards you have, Bob may not be the most prudent choice, especially with Thoughtseize and Library also being in the mix.

I agree with pastor. The list does look good but I would drop a few life draining spells.
Maybe -4 Seize -2 Sylvan and add inquisition and a couple hymns?

I really like the Veteran Explorers and Cabal Therapy package from Nic Fit in the current meta. If the amount of lifeloss was inhibiting your deck's performance at all I could totally see shifting to that package as profitable. Cabal Therapy sometimes misses, but that generally means the worst card of the match isn't in hand and you gain information to weigh future choices, plus have the Flashback option. Eternal Witness combos particularly well with the card as well when you can Therapy, Witness back Therapy, cast it and Flash it back - more or less a Mind Twist that you can break up the cost of over turns or utilize Witness differently based on Therapy info. Thoughtseize Fireblast's you when you do the cast it then Witness recur it.

Volrath's Stronghold may be worth considering as well. It can work really well late game recurring Eternal Witness or Bloodbraid Elf for additional card advantage.

Beatstick on cmc3 slot? Terravore!

thanks for your replies.
Bobs staying, he makes it so that you are able to keep applying pressure. However, i will make the change from thoughtseize to inquisition, thanks. Library helps you avoid the biggest spells on bob flips, A singleton or maybe 2 terravores might very well be a good choice for beatsticks.

Regarding hyms, they were tried the first 2 tourneys, and they were underwhelming 9/10 times i saw them.
I changed them to tseizes, which greatly improved the curve and made me able to take the spells that really hurt me indstead of just praying. :)

I have played plenty of nic fit, but i dont see this as the deck to be playing the vets in.

The deck might not look all that aggresive on paper, but I can tell you that all the built in CA along with the many critters really deal out a serious beating to most decks in the format.

I have been working on this list. I have found bloodbraid elf to not be worth it - it stops you from playing zenith, is quite slow without mana accelerants and causes you to lose a lot of life from confidant. My list is less aggro than your version but so far it has worked well for me.

4 Grove of the Burnwillows
1 Volrath’s Stronghold
