Hi guys, I know this has been posted before but I just moved to NY, in Astoria specifically and I would like to know if there are any places near me( lets assume I live near the train station) that hold any Legacy tournaments. I can go to Manhattan, to Queens (well duh!) and to Brooklyn, but only near Brooklyn College. I would really appreciate some help on the matter as it is VERY boring NOT been able to play MTG at all... Thanks in advance!

You'll probably be able to get to Royal the easiest, though the prize support is rather poor and they don't get too many people (usually 10ish if I recall correctly).
Also, 20 Sided Store. http://twentysidedstore.com/ I could have sworn they did legacy, with proxies, but I can't find it on their calender.

NYC hasn't been the same since Neutral Ground closed. :(

Which means that no actual Legacy is taking place? Then why don't WE organize something instead? If we can't count on the shop owners then why don't we arrange a meeting with as many as possible ,through this forum, to decide course of action?
It would be a shame with that many Legacy players to not have a Legacy scene in the city...
We ran some Legacy at Mark's Comics in Valley Stream for a while but that was a few years ago and really it was just me showing up, with 5 or 6 decks for me and my friends to play, with a few random walk-in people too. It was fun but eventually it just died out in favor of Vintage. My friend works there, so it honestly wouldn't take much if some Queens folk and western LI people wanted to get something going there. It isn't a huge store, but I am fairly certain you could get 15-20 people there, if we promoted it well and picked good days to run tournaments.

It would work. but I still think it would be better to organize a meeting with the guys who are interested first. A crowd(hopefully) is always more persuasive than a few dudes asking for a tournament.
So... Where and when do you guys think we could meet?

Well, if I pitch that we can get a reasonable number to a tournament, I've known Mark for years, I can get an event set up.
Our usual Magic crew is down on Friday nights for FNM and our regulars are down on Saturdays for EDH and just some casual play-testing. This Saturday will be real sparse, there is a big Vintage tournament out east. I think if some people want to meet down there on the 25th at Mark's, I will certainly be there that day (which I think happens to be Games Day as well).

I live in Astoria myself so I'd be interested in making something happen too. Definitely can't play as much as I once could (getting my PhD) but I'd love something weekly or monthly or really anything.
Lemme know if I can help anything.

Sure! why not?
But please give us the address of the store and what trains(if needed)to take to get there(at least from Astoria-Ditmars). You see I just moved here and I still need a map to move around .
I suppose others will need that info as well.
Around what time are talking about?
The address is 291 North Central Avenue, Valley Stream, NY 11580.
Here is a link to the page for the store on Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&safe=off&gs_sm=1&gs_upl=2496l5428l0l7595l12l11l0l1l1l0l146l1027l6.5l12l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&biw=1920&bih=856&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=mark%27s+comics+and+collectibles&fb=1&gl=us&hq=mark%27s+comics+and+collectibles&hnear=0x89c2649434a75c9b:0x2a440e4b0a258756,Lynbrook,+NY&cid=8302027264933032852).
I'm a Long Island boy, so I don't know all that much about trains, but I Google suggests the Q to the 7 to Jamaica station, then taking the LIRR on the Long Beach line, which will let you off at the Valley Stream station, which is about a block west of Central Avenue. You can either leg it north on Central (which I would guess is like a 20 minute walk, but I guess that depends on how fast you walk) or hop the bus like it suggests.
I actually thought that Astoria was on the Queens side closer to us which is why I thought my local store would be good but it seems it is farther than I initially reasoned. Even so, I know a few people who make the trip out to us from Queens (and even Brooklyn) so if events do "take off" I would imagine it would be possible to hitch a ride with one of them (possibly).

hmm ok I ll have to check the trains then. I never went that far but I ll do my best to come. Its about time to start learning the city.
Just in case, do you guys know of any other stores around here that may be suitable?

JHU is a hole with poor prize support and King's Games is equally unexciting, mostly because their staff are dicks.
Twenty Sided Store does non-proxy Legacy once a month, except for this month because of all the other events going on, but there are always Legacy players (like myself) with decks on them if you show up and want to get some games in.
I've never been to this place in Flushing but I might have to check it out..

Hi guys,
New poster here. A few friends and I get together on Saturday afternoons to sling legacy downtown in Manhattan (my bldg has a giant lounge with lots of tables).
If anyone is interested in joining up with us, please shoot me a message or reply here and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks.

Mark's Comics looks cool, I'd be up for Legacy in Manhattan if people wanted to try a meet-up group or something. Fortune, if it's ok I'll send you a message about that.

You guys mentioned a couple of possible places to meet. which one is closest to you? For me its probably 20sided(35mins)>Royal(1hour) according to the google map.
How about the areas they are located? Are considered to be good? I mean like Astoria?
A little about me in case we meet eventually:
My name is Kostas (from Constantine), I am 25 years old. I am Hellenic so don't expect me to speak your language THAT well-I am still in learning mode and I am a student at Brooklyn College(just in case some of you go to the same college as well).

20 sided has a lager player base - but good luck getting a legacy game off the ground.
Royal is more of a comic book / sports memorabilia store - but they have legacy every sunday.
I just drive up to Jupiter Games once a month. It's way better than anything you'll find in the major metro area so far.

Well maybe but the reason I said to go there is to just meet up with the guys who want to start organizing(somewhat) the Legacy players who are interested in casual and tournament games. It was just a meeting point along with Royal. These stores just seem to be close to many other areas besides Astoria so I thought them to be convenient.

I realize you're a ways away, but my store has sanctioned Legacy every Saturday. I own Forgotten Freshness Classic Gaming in Upstate NY.

We get 20 to 30 people on a Saturday, usually. It's a blast too.

I along with a couple college of friends of mine would like to get in on a weekly legacy event preferably somewhere in NYC that is easily accessible by train. I'm sure I can get a few people for regular attendance as long as someone has a good place to host it.

I'm down like a clown for some major metro magic.
Queens works best for me, but BK and Manhattan are awesome too.
If you live in Staten Island I'm not playing with you.

Now that many have answered how about we arrange that meeting?
How about this Friday the 2nd of March?
Is 20-Sided good for you guys? I can be there around 13:30 to 13:45.
Oh, and get some good decks with you! I have quite some time to play so let the slaughter begin!

Any way we could make this maybe a Sunday meetup or a Thursday meetup or something similar?
I'd love to finally be able to start making weekly/monthly meetups but Shabbat keeps me home Friday night-Saturday night.
Any chances we could shoot for something else? Fridays would actually work if we could start somewhat early so I could be home in time for sundown.

Ah... religious issues. I see... Sure why not? I usually have to study on weekends but I should at least find a couple of hours to go out. At least sometimes...
P.s As for Fridays I would also prefer to start early.Friday seems to be perfect for me. I hope its good for you too.

Ok I get that you prefer to gather on weekends. Friday isn't ment to be a fixed day. What I m trying to do through the forum is to just meet with you so we can actually discuss about our prefferences instead of just writing it all here. It takes so much time this way that could have been spent on actually playing the damn game! So please, if you can come on Friday-just once-so we can talk, tell me. I never said to have a tournament on this Friday.Just some friendly games and a discussion. At least tell me if you can come or not because if not then I should do something else than waste my time playing with "standard" noobs. :P

Don't know if they still do legacy - I'll find out and report back.
I'm free Saturday if anyone wants to sling some cardboard.
Alternatively, we could start a facebook group - I like this idea because we can coordinate easier.

I know this is a bit of a long shot but does anyone know of any Legacy events running in NYC on Saturday 4th August? I'm over from the UK and have a spare day free. Just thought I'd ask.
