I don't think I know the proper or best use of City of Traitors could someone please explain it? Isn't Ancient Tomb a better option?

City of Traitors + Chrome Mox + Blood Moon/Magus of the Moon
Best use ever.

Correction: Best use of City of Traitors is City of Traitors + Mox Diamond into a first turn Trinisphere.

Decks that play City of Traitors typically play it alongside Ancient Tomb. They're not really in competition with each other.

I have used them for setting up kill turns usually when my life total was relevant, in conjunction with Blood Pet/Lotus Petals and Dark Rituals:

The combination Ancient Tomb + City of Traitors is preferred when casting heavily-costed artifacts early and regularly, otherwise the self-inflicted damage would be astronomical. City of Traitors alone won't let you cast anything past 2-mana on a regular basis if that is the only land you have in play.

People usually run both to make sure they can drop the turn 1 bombs mentioned here

I agree with this.
