Round 1 - James - Dream Halls
James is a good friend and part of our crew who is known for playing odd decks.
Game 1 - I resolve a turn 1 Vial, and am able to Wasteland him out the game, only seeing Islands, fetches, cantrips, and ancient tombs. I have no idea what he is playing.
Sideboarding:
-1 Scavenging Ooze
-1 Serra Avenger
+2 ORings
Figured they were good catch-alls seeing as I had no idea what was going on.
Game 2 - He combo's off with dream halls before I do anything relevant, using False Cure and Beacon to kill me.
New sideboarding (still wrong, I realize. . .Swords is real good against Progenitus.)
-4 Mother of Runes
+4 Ethersworn Canonist
Game 3 - I land an early Teeg that slows him down, he show and tells in a Dream Halls, and echoing truths Teeg. In response to Conflux I vial him back in, but he is able to get a second Echoing Truth
0-1
Round 2 - Bye - yaya.
Round 3 - Brian - Reanimator
Game 1 - I know what he is on, but this is a rough one pre-board. He get's a turn 2 Jin and has the force for my Plow. I hang in a few more turns but see nothing relevant and his kills me with a flier.
Sideboarding
-3 Teeg
-3 Serra Avenger
+2 Path to Exile
+3 Faerie Macabre
+1 Bojuka Bog
Game 2 - Able to slow him up with a Faerie Macabre, but he show and tells in an Elesh Norn. I resolve a 1/1 Knight of the Reliquary. He brainstorms into the single Surgical Extraction he sided in to kill my Knight. I drew the Karakas the next turn anyway, bounce the Norn and start beating a bit. He reanimates my Knight which is a 7/7, I have to Bog him to stop that nonsense, and manage to get there with a Stoneforge equipped with Sword of Light and Shadow.
Game 3 - We have 10 minutes left, and I have a second GPT to go to if I lose so I keep a VERY risky 6. Faerie Macabre, Faerie Macabre, Knight of the Reliquary, Stoneforge, Qasali, Goyf. I top deck the land like a champ, stop his reanimate with 1 of the Macabre's, then topdeck the 2nd land like a pro. After that he doesn't do much of anything as I build my team up and beat him down.
2-1
Round 4 - ??? - U/R/W something.
Game 1 - I keep a hand of land, land, Vial vial vial, creature creature. I don't draw dead and his massive amounts of removal do not get there. He is playing some combination of Lightning Helix, Arc Trail, Path, Lightning Bolt, and Plow all main.
Sideboarding:
I don't remember, but I think just ORings. He is playing Stoneforge and Geist as his only creatures as far I know.
Game 2 - I keep a decent hand with a Vial, and am able to just keep vialing in threats until he cannot deal with them anymore, which took like 8 turns as he kept drawing removal, a Knight sticks and gets equipped with a Light and Shadow and a Fire and Ice. Not many people can deal with that.
3-1
Round 5 - ID
Top 8 - Tom - Countertop Thopters leaning towards landstill
Another good friend of mine
Game 1 - I am able to overwhelm him with threats, and keep all his big drops at bay with a Mother protected Gaddock Teeg.
Sideboarding:
Again, I don't really remember and I have a horrid sideboard plan against Countertop. I know I brought in KGrips for game 2, probably just took out Scavenging Ooze and something else.
Game 2 - He gets a Peacekeeper protected by Counterbalance, which I cannot deal with. The game goes on kind of long but he gets there with Jace eventually.
Sideboarding:
I brought in ORings
Game 3 - I beat him down with a Dryad Arbor with Jitte on it for a few turns before he lands a Moat. I find ORing with Sylvan Library to deal with that. Eventually with him at 6 I have a Stoneforge with Fire and Ice on it, he has a Peacekeeper and 2 Counterbalances in play. I Krosan Grip one of the balances. Blindflip shows land. Without thinking I plow the Peacekeeper. He fetches, in response I blow up Counterbalance 2. Oh wait trigger hey whats up. Blindflip shows another land. I swing for 5, failing to vial in my Qasali to make it lethal. I almost punted big time but managed to lucksack into the win.
Top 4 - Matt - TES
Game 1: I have a turn 2 Teeg protected by Mother of Runes and just beat him down without much of anything happening.
Sideboarding:
-4 Swords
+4 Ethersworn
Game 2: I again have the turn 2 Teeg, sadly he went first and has turn 2 12 goblins. I do the math and am able to win the race with Qasali, Mom, Teeg if I can cast the Jitte in my hand. He chain of vapors Teeg and no matter what I did I lost by 1.
Game 3: I have turn 1 Mom, turn 2 Ethersworn, turn 3 Teeg. Really not much he can do here except take 4 a turn until I draw more creatures.
Finals - James - Dream Halls.
He informs me he might not be going to the GP, but he is a good friend of mine so I insist we play it out and I will make sure he get's there if he wins.
Game 1 - I keep a very underwhelming 6 and pay for it by a turn 3 or 4 show and tell into Progenitus. I lost that race.
Sideboarding (properly this time!)
-4 Swords
-1 Scavenging Ooze
-1 Serra
+2 ORing
+4 Ethersworn
Game 2 - I am able to land a Mom protected Ethersworn, and Teeg. He show and tells Progenitus but it is too late and my army is able to win the race.
Game 3 - I keep a decent 7 with ORing. He goes for the turn 3 Show and Tell. Puts in dream halls. I put in ORing. Sadly, his brainstorm at the end of turn 2 found him an Echoing Truth and he is able to bounce ORing and combo out.
Overall I am very happy, glad if I had to lose in the finals it was to a good friend of mine. Learned lots from my play mistakes in my top 8 match and will not be making them again =0
Props -
Vial for being so god damn busted
The other half of our team for putting 3 people into top 4 at the GPT on the other side of town
6 card hands with no lands getting there. Balls of steel.
Slops -
Playing against friends, but I guess that's what you get when you have friends that are good at the game also.
The ending of game 3 in top 8.
