I have run Phyrexian Metamorph and not hated it. It can copy their Batterskull and unlike Phantasmal Image, it isn't embarrassing if you copy a Stoneforge Mystic and fetch equipment. Principally though I have played it to kill Emrakuls and Progenitus.
I have considered playing Vapor Snag, but I haven't found a deck aggressive enough. I think you're wrong here; i don't think this deck actually cares about their ETB triggers. Who cares, Stoneforge got to fetch another equipment. They will never have time to play and equip Jitte.
Preordain has to be better than Ponder, right? It's a much better card if you're not digging to something specific. If you just want the best cards, Preordain is much better.

The problem with Metamorph is that it's three mana, it's really tough to have three mana and then counter back-up. It's not that Snag is bad, but I agree it's that the deck isn't aggressive enough. But I think it's probably because Repeal is a better card.
I haven't tested with Preordain yet, so I'm a bit unsure.

I am durdling around with a pretty similar list for quite some time.
As far as testing goes, I am pretty satisfied with the list.
7 Island
8 Fetch
4 Waste
4 Delver
3 Snap
3 Clique
3 Pierce
3 Snare
4 Dzae
4 FoW
4 Stifle
2 Dismember
3 Vapor Snag
2 Repeal
4 Brainstorm
2 Jace, TMS
sb:
2 B2B
3 Submerge
3 Surgical Extraction
3 BEB
2 Jitte
2 Slots (atm 1 Flusterstorm/Dispel and 1 Pithing Needle/Tormod's Crypt)
I haven't had real issues dealing with heavy creature loaded decks like Bant or Mav. All that bounce does matter and doesn't force you into keeping mana up 24/7.
Clique and Manadenial + Softcounters are decent against decks that pack a whole lot of removal, against skilled RUG players it isn't a cakewalk regardless, obviously.
Having the option to board between MUC and Tempo is pretty huge IMO and I am truly a fan of the concept.

I really like the idea. What matches did you play until now and would you mind sharing some tournament experience? Did you play any games vs. Maverick (~ -red / ~ -blue) yet?
One of the reasons I like black in the current metagame is Perish, did you consider this gem when recreating your manabase and sideboard?
I think that Phantasmal Bear could be good in this deck
