:-)

After playing in a PTQ modern tournament here in the Manila, Philippines, I decided to convert my modern UR PiF combo to a legacy Ruw combo one.

And so far here is what I have in my sleeve:

Ruw Past-Vengence
By: paeng4983

[ Lands 15 ]
4 Volcanic Island
2 Steam Vents
3 Flood Strand
4 Scalding Tarn
2 Plataeu

[ Mana Accel 14 ]
2 Pyretic Ritual
4 Rite of Flame
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Seething Song

[ Mana Fixer and Drawer 4 ]
4 Manamorphose

[ Protection 4 ]
Orim’s Chant / Silence 4

[ Cantrips/ Tutors 15 ]
3 Brainstorm
3 Ponder
3 Gitaxian Probe
3 Faithless Looting
3 Burning Wish

[ Win-cons 8 ]
3 Past in Flames
2 Empty the Warrens
3 Burning Vengence

[ Wish target from the GY 3 ]
1 Past in Flames
1 Grapeshot
1 Empty the Warrens
12 = soon to be discussed

Let me just explain some of the card/s that I opted to use for this deck.

- I prefer Burning Vengence (BV) over Pyromancer Ascension (PA) because as I personally experienced with PA during the PTQ games, there were times that I drew irrrelevant cards, even after I Past in the Flames for their flashbacks. But unlike with BV, just flashback like 7 cards and burning wish into grapeshot can win you the game.

- 3-offs of brainstorm, ponder, probe, faithless looting and burning wish; inorder for me to have some room for the deck’s protection [4 silence/ orim’s chant]

- No LED, Chrome Moxen, Lotus Petal; I cannot recycle these cards with Past in Flames. So I went with Rite, Seething, Desperate and Pyretic Rituals as my mana accels for this deck. Though on one end, I might add LEDs because the Past in Flame in respond crack LED trick is just another awesome way of winning a game.

- No grapeshot, only in the deck’s SB, because there are situation that storm for 6 or 7 for ETW can give you the win needed for that game.

Your thoughts guys?

Thanks

Hello TS
I just got home from a small legacy tournament here in Manila.
1st, here's what i sleeved:

[ Lands 14 ]
4 Volcanic Island
2 Steam Vents
1 Flood Strand
4 Scalding Tarn
2 island
1 mountain

[ Mana Accel 14 ]
2 Pyretic Ritual
4 Rite of Flame
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Seething Song

[ Mana Fixer and Drawer 4 ]
4 Manamorphose

[ Cantrips/ Tutors 17 ]
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
4 Gitaxian Probe
2 Faithless Looting
3 Burning Wish

[ Win-cons 8 ]
3 Past in Flames
3 Empty the Warrens
2 Burning Vengence

[creatures 3]
3 goblin bushwacker

[ Sideboard 15 ]
1 Past in Flames
1 Grapeshot
1 Empty the Warrens
4 deceiver exeirach
4 splinter twin
2 pestermite
2 kiki jiki

And here's what happened:
rd 1 burn
G1: went off turn 3, 7 spells for 14 goblins off ETW's. but he had a MD slagstorm to kill all my gobs. after that, tons, of bolt like spells plus fireblast were blasted to my face. brainstorm, ponder did not gave me anything relevant.
G2: tried the transformation thing, still cantrip spells did not gave me the stuffs i need. lost to goblin guides and haste friends.

rd 2 burn
G1: was able to go off in my turn two. accel spells after accel spells, into burning wish and into ETW for 8 spells, 16 tokens. 16 tokens were enough to gave me the win.
G2: was alble to pull-off the twin-deceiver combo in my 5 turn.

rd 3 GW aggro
G1: went off in my 2nd turn with 14 token off ETW's 7 storm count. from there, he never recovered.
G2: as always, i tried again the transformational thing, but my opening hand gave me, 2 rite of flames, scalding tarn, mountain, seething song, manamorphose, manamorphose. im on the draw. and the card that i drew was, manamorphose. drop mountain, rite, rite, song, (floating 6 red), manamorphose (4 red 2 blue), drew, gataxian probe, cast probe pay with 2 life, drew pyretic cast it, (5 red 2 blue), cast manamorphose drew burning wish into ETW. :-) X number of gobs token so sweet.. he then scooped.

rd 4 affinity
G1: was able to go off in my 3rd turn. mana accel, cantrips after mana accel, cantrips into past in the flame, then into grapeshot for lethal damage.
G2: did the transformational thing, was able to pull it, around turn 5 or 6th.

:-)

i guess i was just lucky that day. i did not face any blue base deck. hopefully next time i will have one. and will test if this deck can really go toe to toe with U base deck.

Just came home from a legacy game wherein we had it 5rds no T8.
Here's what I had:

[ Lands 14 ]
4 Volcanic Island
2 Steam Vents
1 Flood Strand
4 Scalding Tarn
1 island
2 mountain

[ Mana Accel 18 ]
2 Pyretic Ritual
4 Rite of Flame
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Seething Song
4 LED

[ Mana Fixer and Drawer 4 ]
4 Manamorphose

[ Cantrips/ Tutors 16 ]
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
4 Gitaxian Probe
4 Burning Wish

[ Win-cons 5 ]
2 Past in Flames
3 Empty the Warrens

[creatures 3]
3 goblin bushwacker

[ Sideboard 15 ]
1 Past in Flames
1 Grapeshot
1 Empty the Warrens
4 deceiver exeirach
4 splinter twin
2 pestermite
2 kiki jiki

And as far as I can remember:
RD1 MUD-aggro
G1:Turn two 18 tokens off ETW. Turn three goblin with kicker, equals win.
G2: An early wurmcoil and later loadstone golem forced a rubber match.
G3: An early Wurmcoil again was able to swang for two or three, I think, before deceiver and twin saved my ass.

1-0

RD2 UW control
G1: I managed to ramped into lethal storm until my burning wish met his spell snare.
G2: 18 tokens on my turn 3, but his batterskull with jitte on his germ were too much for my battalion to handle.

1-1

RD3 Traft-BANT
G1: Turn two 14 tokens get me there.
G2: His turn two chill halted my pestermite from combo-ing.
G3: Turn one, started with a probe, seeing chill in his opening 7 but no FOW, the next thing we knew, I had 14 tokens all over my table. :-)

2-1

RD4 sneaky show
G1: He landed a sneak, then next turn, aeon and progen made my ass as wide as hell.
G2: Turn one probe, see-ing no FOW just a couple of trinisphere, no show or sneak, 12 gobs forced a 3rd game.
G3: Show and tell into aeon, then I was in hell after that.

2-2

Rd5 reanimator
G1: I was able to produced 14 tokens during my 3rd turn, but his lady gaga stomped on us.
G2: Iona, naming RED - man! *then table flipped*

2-3

I might consider using the deck again for Saturday and Sunday's legacy tournaments.
:-)
But this time, I'll include ORIMS / SILENCE in my MD. :-)
