Might not be totally legacy relevant, but theres also a small EDH section here so I though I would ask.

If I flash a legendary creature into play with "flash" it will be sacrificed if I do not pay the rest of the casting cost.
With Riku I can pay to put a copy onto the stack of the creature and this creature should not neter the battlefield before the original has died, correct?

I am a bit unsure of the interaction, but I have a gut feeling that it is possible to save some mana on legendary creatures using Flash and Riku?

Thanks in advance

Goodguy

P.S. cant find the card wrappings to auto-lookup the cards, sorry

Short answer: Yes, this works.

Longer answer: When you play flash, the entire resolution of the spell is to put a creature onto the battlefield, then (optionally) pay the cost, and then, if necessary, sacrifice it. No player will get priority until all of these actions are done.

Riku will see the creature enter the battlefield, and will trigger. However, his ability will not be put on the stack until Flash has completely resolved. By the time Riku's ability resolves, the creature will no longer be on the battlefield, assuming you do not pay the cost requirement.

Also: To hyperlink to cards, use the commands [car ds] and [/car ds] before and after them, respectively, without the spaces in them.

Note that the token you will make will still be a copy, even though the creature it is copying is no longer on the battlefield.
