WBG The end of power creep
I normally play storm combo, but recently I’ve been losing some games against people playing savannahs.
As we all know, this means the end of the format.
Someone has to develop a deck that handles the threat of Maverick.

I am that person.

I’ve been testing this pile on cockatrice and the results so far are:
Vs Maverick: 9 – 1 (7 wins through scoop, 2 wins through decking, 1 loss to mana screw)
Vs UW blade: 8 - 2 (4 wins through scoop, 4 wins through decking, 2 losses to jace)
Vs RUG: 8 – 2 (6 wins through scoop, 2 wins through decking, 2 losses to mana screw)

Vs TES: 0 – 10 (this is however not a problem, since playing playing storm combo deserve to win the tournament.)

The deck:
WBG TEPC (the end of power creep)

Mainboard:
Lands (25)
6 plains
5 swamp
1 forest
3 scrubland
1 bayou
1 savannah
2 wasteland
3 marsh flats
2 windswepth heath
1 verdant catacombs

Protection (36)
4 swords to plowshares
4 path to exile
3 innocent blood
2 diabolic edict
2 wrath of god
2 damnation
3 engineered explosives
3 pernicious deed
4 vindicate
2 maelstrom pulse
4 pulse of the fields
3 lilliana of the veil

Kill (4)
4 howling mine

Sideboard:
4 leyline of the void
3 yixlid jailer
4 helm of obedience
4 planar void

How to play:
You have more removal than maverick has creatures.
You have more removal than UW blade/RUG have creatures + counters.

If they can’t stick a threat, they can’t win.
Pulse of the fields protects you from burn from RUG.

Stp, path: no explanation needed
Innocent blood, diabolic edict: mongoose, progenitus, …
Wrath of god, damnation: sounds good in this deck
EE, deed: additional mass removal + destroys random things like counterbalance
Vindicate, maelstrom: planeswalkers + random stuff
Lilliana of the veil: made for this deck

How to win:
They deck before you do.
You play 65 cards, no draw and few fetch lands.
Howling mine assures they deck game 1 within time limit.

The sideboard:
Since we’ll lose G1 against dredge, we’ll do like every good magic player and restore the odds post board. Since we’ll have less time left in the match after losing game 1, we need a quicker way to win game 2 through leyline + helm of awakening.
--> I suggest you all start playing this deck. It’s fun (for you at least) when they have 10+ creatures in their GY and you show your hand of stp, path, diabolic edict, wrath of god, vindicate, EE, pulse of the fields.
This deck will obviously become DTB fast, so make sure you buy all the cards fast, as they will skyrocket in price.

When this has happened, I’ll sleeve my dark rituals and we’ll have a nice chitchat in the 49 minutes remaining time limit after our game.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but... why play this over Turbofog? It does the exact same thing but faster and can, somehow, occasionally beat combo.

- Killing creatures is more fun than fogging them
- Planeswalkers don't kill you
- Pulse is hilarious against burn
- Destroys dredge (post SB)
- Why would you try to win against storm combo?

1, Helm of Obedience... unless you want Leylines hardcast faster...

2, although I understand the concept and kind of like it Howling mine is a super poor win condition

3, I still win tournaments with storm

Losing against your best (relevant) matchup sucks alot but apart from the weird builds splasing blue maverick should still be in your favor.
But I agree Thalia was one bridge too far. Wtf WotC?

1. This deck is a troll ofc. but indeed I meant helm of obedience
2. Howling mine is indeed not the perfect win condition. I'm looking for alternatives
3. Ofc you do, but random losing to 1/1 and 2/2 dorks is painful

Planeswalkers don't beat turbofog, maindeck Leyline's prevent their abuse. Many lists don't run bounce.

Eternal Dragon can help against mana-screw and is a win-con.

You should play Haunting Echoes to remove their deck from the game thus decking them faster.

Jesus Christ lmao. How does it feel knowing you auto-lose to Storm-combo and burn?

Maybe try adding Sorin, Lord of Innistrad instead of decking your opponent?

I make something like this for playing against casuals. The butthurt of tem losing all of their creatures would be a funny sight.

I almost replied to this thread but didn't...oh wait.
It could be worse though thalia could of been green!

Is this called "The end of power creep" because this deck plays none of the cards whose power level has been raised?

Does anyone actually find decking the opponent to be a fun/reliable win condition?

Seems like this would take ages to win, and in that time most decks would find their moment.
