View Full Version : MTG Smart Phone Apps
I'm likely going to be picking up a new smart phone later today when I re-up my contract and joining the Cool Kids Club. So I was wondering what opinions people hold for any MTG Smart Phone Apps.
I'm looking primarily for the life counter/poison counter and such that seems to be common in most of these apps, but what are the major differences between them? Do any of these apps track Commander Damage? Do any of them have access to a card database or the Comprehensive Rules? In other words, is there any apps that are more than just a life counter that are worth downloading. I heard the official MTG app was mostly just browser links to the mothership site and loads slow. Any other opinions?
I'm getting an Android though discussion of iOs apps is fine as well if people wish to discuss it here. Thank you for any help rendered.

I've been using MTG Tutor and MTG Tracker mainly, they work pretty well.
MTG Tutor has the Comprehensive Rules in it and a decent deckbuilder, but the MTG Tracker has quite a nice life point tracker, where you can choose how many players there are playing, track General Damage in EDH etc.

MTG Judge is a free app that does comp rules and oracle text. The Star City Games app is decent if you spend the money. There's a big pile of apps you could use and it's purely a style preference.

I would strongly recommend MTG Judge, but the app hasn't updated yet with Dark Ascension. So hopefully they didn't lack support for the app.
For iOS I'd recommend iMtG and the official app, but I also use my own webapp (see signature). They might be available for Android as well and feature comprehensive rules and a card database (iMtG might have some features for in game purchases only).

I've been using iMtG for a bit and love it. It meets the requirements that you're looking for, but what I really use it for is binder management

What i love is Decked Builder HD for iPad and Decked Builder for iPhone. It has a really good search engine, you can manage your collections, you can build decks. you can even play test decks. It's a paid app, but worked so good for me i don't regret getting the app.

On android I use 3
I have the free version of MTG tracker which you can't get anymore. This is only for the deckbuilder feature which you can also get in the paid version. The free version no longer gets updated so it doesn't have DKA in it.
If you like building decks a lot I recommend you get the paid version of MTG tracker because I think all free apps that have deckbuilders get taken off android market for some reason.
Also for android I have MTG Familiar which is everything you want except for a deckbuilder and it's free so you might as well give it a go. The good thing about this app is it has an advanced search almost identical to magiccards.info search so it's very useful.
Finally I have MTG judge (also free) which has frequently updated comp rules, IPG, MTR all of that good stuff.
Decked builder is my favorite app. It's only on ios though. I have an android device but the apps are pretty dull compared to the ones avail for the iOS market.
Decked drafter, twitch.tv(watch your fav streams), mtg guide, judge, life counter, the scg app.
