View Full Version : U - DelverNought. Need some advice

4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Wind Zendikon

4 Vision Charm
4 Stifle
4 Unstable Mutation

4 Ponder
4 Brainstorm

4 Daze
4 Force of Will

2 Noxious Revival

4 Flooded Strand
2 Polluted Delta
3 Wasteland
9 Island

The deck itself doesn't need an explanation, there is just one card you must be asking yourself: "WTF!?!?"

yes, Wind Zendikon. Read the card carefully and you'll realize what's really worth.

For U you have:
1) a 2/2 flying beater when you are flooded by extra lands. 5/5 for U when enchanted by Unstable Mutation
2) it double your counts of Wastelands when they are really needed. Double Maze of Ith around in a crucial turn? You draw a Wind Zendikon? It's just fine.
3) you are screwed? Wind Zendikon on Flooded Strand to fetch an Island and to get back your fetch.

the main point is obviously that it doubles your probabilities to have a 5/5 flying (attacking) creature on turn 2 with U open for cantrips.

opinions, suggestions?

I need ideas to make it more consistent and to build the SB. Thanks

I'm also considering

-2 Noxious Revival
-1 Wind Zendikon

+1 Island
+2 Vendilion Clique

-explosiveness
+ solidity

"3) you are screwed? Wind Zendikon on Flooded Strand to fetch an Island and to get back your fetch."

I dont think this will bring you your fetch back, but the card itself (Wind Zendikon).

no, that's Genju of the Falls. with Wind Zendikon you get the land itself back

It does return the land yes, the Wind Zendikon says: when enchanted land... blahblah... return THAT card to its owner's hand.

That refers to the card the Zendikon has enchanted :)

That's a pretty cool idea! The only thing I can think of is some dismembers to take out trouble some creatures or you could run threads of disloyalty/phyrexian metamorph instead. Other than that I really like the idea. What does your side board look like?

after many tests I realized that if we drop a Wind/Delver on turn 1 and we can pump it (just throught Unstable Mutation though..) we win 90% of the time. it's just matter to protect the beater from StP and if they manage to exile it, next turn we land the Dreadnought so..

an early pumped Delver/Wind means win.

now: how do we multiply the number of Delver/Pumpers (always staying blue)?

Phantasmal Image?
Trusty Machete?

need advices, I'm short on ideas

my SB is currently

4x Grafdigger's Cage Reanimators
4x Surgical Extraction Reanimators / Loams etc.
4x Phantasmal Image Legendary fatties matchups

I think Phantasmal Image is the easiest way to have a clone effect for your beaters as well as having an out for the opponent. If there's a way to squeeze that into the main deck (perhaps 2-or-3 times).

Other Clone effects cost either three or more mana, which is too many if you ask me.

For pump you could also look at some of the easiest to cast equipments like Bonesplitter but that might be a little underwhelming. Cunning is a nice 1-time effect, but then you've basically got a Giant Growth for two.

There aren't many other options in dedicated blue I'm affraid.

By the way, why not run Counterspell over Daze? Is returning an Island strictly better than a hard counter for two?

I'm thinking about a micro splash for Vexing Devil and Lightning Bolt..

it just adds what I need here.

Sarcasm?

Was thinking that Mutation > Image would make image die since it dies when targeted, but I reckon that's what you mean right there :P

Though a question: Mutation > Delver = 6/5 Delver, then I Image > Delver is Image now a nice 6/5 flyer or a 3/2 flyer?

If option A that would be mental. If B not too shabby, but no extra benefits :P

That would be nuts.. but I think it doesn't copy Unstable Mutations bonus either..

edit: yup.
9/22/2011: Phantasmal Image copies exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing more (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.

too bad but it would have been crazy

Yeah that would've been too good to be true :P.
Still it's probably the best way to increase your threat density.

About you splashing red, is it really worthwhile to splash just for those two cards? What's the extra value you get out of it besides some extra removal options?

I playtested Vexing Devil and altought its power (7/6 with Unstable Mutation for R/U, lol) we don't really like it in this deck.

it has no evasion and gets chump blocked by anything. really against the philosophy of the deck.

The bolt does his own well known job. Fire/Ice would probably more effective.

The main problem of the deck is the Wind Zendikon itself because if it gets bolted they often get a Time Walk effect...

decisions, decisions... with more "pumpers" I'd go 20 lands + Invisible Stalker

but.. that loses explosiveness. No I think I'd stay with my fliers just adding Vendilion Clique (flash, flying and 3 power)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Devil won't do much on it's own and you basically will get 2-for-1ed everytime you enchant him.

My guess is if you'd go for a splash green might be the way to go. Minor splashing for Bereserk might not be a totally bad idea to swing for the win, but to be fair this might contradict with the back-up stiflenought plan.

My general feeling all in all is that we could either build Stiflenought with some extra outs or go U/g Tempo with a dozen cantrips :)

No the best splash possible is Red.

There's the new Miracle (5 damages), Fling (+ dreadnought or mutated Delver) and outrageous burns.. fastness and explosivity in a shell of control, that's the philosophy of the deck.

Red or black (Unholy strength, etc.) is the only splash possible. But I'd prefer to stay mono-U. it is so much more solid to be able to play Back to Basics in SB

Fair enough. What's the current SB like?

Btw just to give a sample 60 of a U/g spin-off

//Land 19
3 Tropical Island
1 Forest
6 Island
3 Wasteland
4 Misty Rainforest
2 Scalding Tarn

//Creatures 13
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
3 Sylvan Safekeeper (that guy is massive protection for this deck)
2 Phantasmal Image

//Other 28
4 Force of Will
4 Counterspell

4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder

4 Stifle
2 Noxious Revival
3 Berserk
3 Unstable Mutation

Note that this is just a sample list from the top of my head. I feel Berserk might compliment the entire up tempo strategy. If we don't care for protection of the creatures in the form of Sylvan Safekeeper it's always optional to enter Tarmo in the slot

a new card boost: Jace's Phantasm

Jace's Phantasm U

Creature - Illusion
Flying
Jace's Phantasm gets +4/+4 as long as an opponent has ten or more cards in his or her graveyard.
1/1

http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=131960&d=1338849166

and new decklist for us, getting double advantage of Vision Charm and a new cantrip: Thought Scour. It thins the deck and helps with the strategy, it remains the weakest card in the whole deck anyway.

The good part of Jace's Phantasm is that it flies, so with Unstable Mutation, it is a great turn 1 drop in place of Delver (Delver's still the best, but we can run only 4 so...) to swing for 4 with evasion on turn 2.

Late game it comes into play as another must kill creature which leaves more space for our big guy.. (Phyrexian Dreadnought)

did the deck improve? a little, but not so much

I think Phyrexian Dreadnought has become utterly obsolete in a metagame filled with Maverick Jace, re-usable Stps, Terminus, Spell Pierce. 2009 has come to an end from a lot of time. Vendilion Clique and Snapcaster are plan better, so is Delver.

you have too see it like a must-kill threath, leaving your Unstable Mutated Faerie/Illusion/Phantasm to connect or even better a one-shot bomb of 12 damages

consider also, you have Gitaxian Probe and Vendilion Clique. You are able to see their game and play around it.

You also play 4x Vision Charm, they StP you respond with that, etc. etc.

very sneaky and playable today too.. (imho)
