If You Build It: On Netdecking, Brewing and Playing the Right 75 (http://www.quietspeculation.com/2012/05/if-you-build-it-on-netdecking-brewing-and-playing-the-right-75/)
I really dig Ryan's insights into this process. Anyone have any other effective methods?

I personally like Brassman's approach much better. Just play the deck with the highest concentration of broken cards. Also, stay away from theory-crafters and play actual magic.

I love reading stuff like this, even though I can't homebrew to save my ass. You'd think after 10 years of playing I'd gather a clue from somewhere... heh. Still makes for a good read; I like the bit about "don't do it alone but don't invite everyone in", and not because it's bad to share tech but because eventually there are just too many ideas in the room, and your deck turns into a camel that 0-2s. Good stuff.
