I'm looking to play Lotus Cobra in Legacy but I'm not sure what the plan should be. At first I imagined an Exploration/Loam build but it feels like Cobra is just win more as you really don't have anything in the high end you want to hit when you could just be Seismic Loaming their face. That being said I think Scapeshift is the way to go. There are 2 possible routes in my opinion. Either the classic UG splash red for Valakut, or a more spicy Rock brew with Dark Depths/Ob Nixilis. I like UG more for the protection but I love having so many ways to attack them with Rock. Knight of the Reliquary + Terravore look really solid plus Hexmage/Depths gives a reason to Scapeshift if Ob Nixilis isn't in play yet.

EDIT: Lotus Cobra is crap, don't play it.

Here some rough drafts:

UGr Scapeshit

4 Exploration
4 Explore
4 Scapeshift
4 Prismatic Omen
2 Life from the Loam
4 Daze
2 Spell Snare
3 Spell Pierce
4 Brainstorm
1 Compulsive Research
4 Mox Diamond

4 Misty Rainforest
4 Wooded Foothills
2 Wasteland
3 Tropical Island
4 Taiga
2 Volcanic Island
1 Mountain
4 Valakut, The Molten Pinnacle

The manabase needs a lot of help but it's a start.

[EDIT]
Rock Scapeshit

4 Veteran Explorer
2 Ob Nixilis, The Fallen
4 Vampire Hexmage

4 Cabal Therapy
4 Hymn to Tourach
3 Pernicious Deed
1 Darkblast
1 Life from the Loam
3 Innocent Blood
3 Living Wish
4 Crop Rotation
3 Scapeshift

2 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Verdant Catacombs
1 Windswept Heath
2 Savannah
1 Scrubland
3 Dark Depths
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
3 Swamp
2 Forest
4 Bayou

Updated

New version focuses on Hexmage/Depths combo with potential Ob Nixilis kill. The 2 Flagstones mean an instant kill if you can Scapeshift with The Fallen in play. Scapeshift also serves as another tutor for Depths. It might be better to run 2 Scrubland 1 Savannah I'm not sure yet.

Thoughts? Criticisms?

3 Spell Pierce
4 Brainstorm
1 Compulsive Research
4 Mox Diamond

Rock Scapeshit

4 Lotus Cobra
2 Ob Nixilis, The Fallen
3 Knight of the Reliqaury
2 Terravore
4 Steppe Lynx
3 Vampire Hexmage

4 Exploration
4 Crop Rotation
4 Scapeshift
2 Garruk Wildspeaker

4 Mox Diamond

4 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Verdant Catacombs
2 Windswept Heath
2 Marsh Flats
3 Savannah
2 Dark Depths
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
3 Scrubland
2 Bayou

This list looks realllly loose, it might be smarter to lay off the potential aggro game and just be midrange.

Also Jund might be a better call than Rock that way you have both Depths and Valkut combo available. Plus better sweepers in the board. Jund makes it realllly tempting to play Countryside Crusher/Loam which could either be a trap or pretty good.

Thoughts? Criticisms?

Personally I don't care for the "Rock ScapeSHIT", but I think that the "UGr ScapeSHIT" has a potential. I personally would cut creatures all together and maybe try adding something like Prismatic Omen, definitelly Life from the loam and maybe even try to incorporate Seismic Assault in there.

If you cut the creatures altogether it would just be aggro loam, at which point scapeshift is just win more. The mana for that deck is also really tight to support wastelock plus punishing fire depending on the build. What number's would you suggest for such a list?

Maybe scapeshift might be valid for the sideboard after surgicals etc. come in?

No wasteland or grove combo? I think at least 1 of the 2 deserves an include at least cut the Urborgs. You only have 8 black spells and yet you have over 8 black sources. Red is going to be the heavier burden thanks to scapeshift and seismic assault. Also 3 Valakut seems unnecessary 2 is probably fine, you only need 1 to combo.

Summary: -2 Urborg, -1 Valakut = +3 Wasteland
or
-2 Urborg, -1 Valakut, -2 Flame Jab = +3 Grove of the Burnwillows, +2 Punishing Fire

I was just trying to help and come up with some ideas... I literally copied my seismic assault deck and added few things to make it into a scapeshift deck. I didn't really pay much attention to the mana base, the reason why I have 2 Urborg and quite a few other black mana lands in there was because in my seismic assault I run 4 Small Pox and 3 Liliana of the Veil. Don't try to dissect every little detail... specially the mana base, it was just something I threw together quickly to try to help you / give you some ideas of other routes to go...

Oh okay, gracias! I appreciate it. I'm gonna put something together once I get the cards and update the thread with results just in case anyone is interested.

Okay after doing some goldfishing I've decided Lotus Cobra is crap with the Scapeshift plan and probably just in general for legacy. You don't have enough lands down to profit off Scapeshift early enough, plus it means you have to protect the cobra not the combo. The other problem is it tricks you into wanting big scary 4 and 6 drops that get stranded in hand if it gets removed and don't really win on the spot. At least MUD has Walker AND Welder.

With these things in mind I tested with Veteran Explorer instead, and it was leagues ahead. This drew me to the Rock style build with a heavier reliance on Hex/Depths combo. The updated list is in the OP and feels a lot more reliable. The disruption makes you feel less like a fish in a barrel for other to destroy.

I'm still not sure if I want to play KotR, the search is strong but it weakens the manabase which is rough considering how many basics need to be played to support the Veteran Explorers. I'm gonna post a list in the NicFit thread as well to get some feedback/see if it is even considered similar.
